2nd Thread: friend wants to move in for a 'few months'

As continued from my previous thread.

OP posts:
MargotMoon · 26/08/2021 21:22

I'm sorry but since when did people ask for enormous, important favours by text message?? If any of my friends needed to LIVE WITH ME, even for a bloody weekend, they would arrange to come round or - at the very least - phone up to discuss it and explain why they were asking such a thing. Sending a text and then kicking off when the answer is no is just bullshit behaviour

Welshgal85 · 26/08/2021 21:24

Oh OP so sorry to hear that she is still being this way! So awful, how the hell does she think her BF talking to your DP and ‘convincing him’ is a good idea? How could she expect you to be friends after the horrible way she has treated you? Hope you and DP are okay x

polkadotpjs · 26/08/2021 21:29

Well. You should definitely let her move in now she's shouted. That definitely improves her status as a good house ghest no? Lunatic. I'd not normally advocate someone else helping but I do think your DO ringing from your phone and saying the answer is no. Do not ask again. Stop ringing and stop leaving messages. Enough. And then follow up with a message that she should not contact you any further, you've kept the messages and will contact police if she continues. Calm, polite but firm. Then block again and move on. I'd be your friend and never ask you crazy shit like this. I love dogs too and you sound so nice. You deserve better. Way better. I had a friend like this who eventually lost all her friends and still can't see why. I wish I'd challenged her back then and told her but actually it's been fine just no longer being friends and the realisation that real friends don't make give you a fearful heart

PaddleBlue · 26/08/2021 21:34

What a horrible woman Angry

Huh??

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 26/08/2021 21:38

@BoredZelda

How can she leave a voicemail of you blocked the number?
Good point.

Any idea OP?

FatPatsCat · 26/08/2021 21:40

I block loads of business numbers, they're still able to leave a voicemail

youvegottenminuteslynn · 26/08/2021 21:41

My iPhone sends blocked numbers straight to voicemail. To those questioning OP as if she's lying, a quick Google would have done the job...

"What happens to blocked phone calls. When you block a number on your iPhone, the blocked caller will be sent straight to your voicemail — this is their only clue that they've been blocked, by the way. The person can still leave a voicemail"

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 26/08/2021 21:44

If I block a number, they no longer have access to my phone / voicemail. Never had a VM from a blocked caller.

Didn't know that. Thanks.
caughtinanet · 26/08/2021 21:46

If you read the posts before yours @YellowandGreenToBeSeen there are several that explain that blocking a number doesn't stop the person leaving a voicemail message

That's not the case for iPhones.

Harvestyo · 26/08/2021 21:50

I wonder if crazy friend has turned up at OPs house and is causing drama.

Perhaps she’s shinned up the drainpipe and installed herself in the master bedroom? 🤣
VillanellesOrangeCoat · 26/08/2021 21:55

I’ve always wondered why I got notification of voicemails when phone hasn’t rung - now I realise they’re blocked numbers! Learnt something, thank you! (iPhone user too)

Annoying isn't it? Seems like a weird thing for Apple not to have closed the loop on but solves the mystery!
caughtinanet · 26/08/2021 21:58

Not having had a voicemail doesn't mean that the option isn't available to a blocked number though. How would you know that they aren't being directed to voicemail? There are numerous articles confirming that is what iphones do.

I don't have an iphone but have googled out of interest for this thread, they can't all have got it wrong can they?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 26/08/2021 22:00

So weird how people post something as fact so confidently when a quick Google shows they're mistaken isn't it? A bit cringe and silly! Not holding my breath on any 'oh looks like I was wrong, my bad' posts though...

saraclara · 26/08/2021 22:03

Bit of a fail there by the troll hunters.

CornishTiger · 26/08/2021 22:06

I knew she’d still leave voicemails. Hope you’ve managed to turn it off.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 26/08/2021 22:08

Ok. You’re right.
I’m wrong.
Be happy in your righteousness.

Not righteousness just right-ness!

And refreshing for someone to concede being wrong on here.

So a pat on the back for everyone, I say!
