Let me explain. I need a new measuring jug. The measures have been washed off my glass ones and my plastic one is not easy to read. They're cheap yet I have been struggling for about 2 years and never really sure I've measured correctly meaning some failed bread and the odd annoyance most days. Why haven't o bought one? I fear it's symptomatic of other flaws
Tell me yours and make me feel less of a weirdo

I've been feeling really smug recently as not only did I finally replace our totally blunt not-cutting-for-months nail clippers with nice sharp new ones (grand total of £1), but I finally remembered to buy a bottle brush to clean out everyone's water bottles/flasks etc after they've had juice/coffee and so on in them.

I've been shoving a cloth down them and rotating it to wipe with a chopstick or butter knife before pulling the cloth out again for absolutely years now. Blush

But this post has reminded me of our dodgy toilet seat. We always forget we need a new one until someone sits on it wrong, it slides, and you nearly end up stuck in the toilet or falling off the side.

I also need to stock up on new smoke alarm batteries, this thread has reminded me of that too. We just used our last one last week and I like to have spares for that all the time.

@baffledcoconut
Thanks! Will investigate!

Workyticket · 24/08/2021 00:17

Loads of stuff!

Toenail scissors. I cut my toe nails in the shower (no idea whether this is gross or normal) and mine have gone rusty - have been for at least 8 months 🙈

New knickers. All of mine are disgraceful - holey and saggy

I'm not poor and I often think I'd be so ashamed if I had to go into hospital with holey knickers

NotMyCat · 24/08/2021 00:19

Also yes to knickers. I've found my favourite most comfy ones and need to buy more. And I haven't Confused

TheNemesisOfLame · 24/08/2021 00:22

Table mats. We have 4 quilted ones and 3 that the PTA did with the children's drawings in Reception/Year 2
The quilted ones were a wedding present in 1998 - they are fraying.
DS has just graduated and DD is off in September.

We've been looking for new ones for about 10 years now...just can't commit.

41sunnydays · 24/08/2021 00:23

clothes pegs ! We are down to 8 for a family of 5, it's absolutely ridiculous...

Orla1970 · 24/08/2021 00:26

Loving this thread. Hair clips. I use those wee tiny ones just to clip my hair out my face at night. I’m down to my last two that have about 2 teeth between them. The last pack was about a quid for a dozen out of primark. I keep putting them in my basket on eBay or Amazon and then take them out as 3 quid is a rip off. I am a spender so I can’t understand why I am doing this 🤷‍♀️

UnitedRoad · 24/08/2021 00:33

@Maverick66 I love buying nice tea towels, usually in the sale - Cath Kidston, Emma Bridgewater, and loads of others that I just like. Added to that people know I like them and buy me them sometimes, BUT, I put them in the airing cupboard for best (best???), and keep reusing the ones we’ve had for up to 16 years when we moved in.

I have no idea why I do it.

Orla1970 · 24/08/2021 00:33

Oh yeah just remembered. Batteries for remote controls. For about a year I’ve been taking the batteries out the telly remote and warming them in my hands and putting them back in. Between my husband and I we literally have an Amazon delivery most days yet new batteries escape us both x

CanIPleaseHaveOne · 24/08/2021 00:37

@Hellotoallmyfans

Oh, I'm like this with loads of things. The main thing that comes to mind is new pyjamas and underwear. I wear lovely clothes most of the time and spend a lot of money on them but I HATE spending money on underwear and pyjamas. Mine all have holes in/are discoloured.

I detest spending money on "boring" everyday things, that's the problem.

But actually Hello, if you have good quality, easy to use, pleasure giving everyday items it elevates the quotidian! I started this last year with a few good knives, tin opener, matches Grin, and yes, knickers. My daily life gets a boost I must say!
LadyAddle · 24/08/2021 00:38

@aworldofourown @DroopyClematis
It is a lanyard?! I was getting so invested, thought it was a new exciting American gadget for the garden. Oh well. Thanks for clarifying…

Thursa · 24/08/2021 00:40

Scrunchie. I have three, all stretched to buggery, I have to wind them 4/5 times to tie my hair up.

Orla1970 · 24/08/2021 00:41

I keep remembering things. I use hydrocortisone cream and feel the need to cut open the metal tube to get every last bit out of it. Invariably I cut myself in the process. It is 4 quid a tube. I regularly buy premium make up and toiletries and do not feel the need to do this with them. It makes no sense that I feel I must not waste any of this cream. Poking scissor blades down the metal tube to prise it open to get 2p worth of cream out is quite dangerous! 🤦‍♀️ x

MouseholeCat · 24/08/2021 00:42

A duster. Although the few times I've been in a store likely to have them they haven't, which is super frustrating.

ThinWomansBrain · 24/08/2021 00:46

@snowpo

Tablespoons, never had any. Bloody annoying for recipes & serving but just never in 20yrs of adult living got round to buying any!
I put this off for years - eventually got some a couple of years ago to top up an order of something else up to get free delivery, amazing, do get some.
starfishmummy · 24/08/2021 00:47

@TestingTestingWonTooFree

You’re making me feel bad about my stained/holey tea towels. That’s totally something I could/should replace.
I just know that any new ones I buy will be stained five minutes later so I don't see the point!! Ditto new baking trays!!
Marmite17 · 24/08/2021 01:02

Had

a few rubbish non stick roasting trays. Reluctant to buy any more. Apart from the waste of money they spew out black bits on food. Not convinced re toxicity, probably fine but just want my food. Agree re landfill.
Gone back to using my quite dirty looking 60 year old enamel roasting dishes. Heat will kill germs. Not convinced about the safety of eating Teflon.

languagelover96 · 24/08/2021 01:11

elp30 · 24/08/2021 01:17

@ThreeFlowers

No all that cheap but a toilet seat, ours has been balancing on top for nearly a year - we’ve all learnt to sit on it now without it slipping off

I came on to write this.
We just sort of balance on ours and have for eight years. They cost around US$15.
I don't know why I'm like this?

Jaxxypantsmummy17 · 24/08/2021 01:19

Light bulbs, I need 5 of them Blush

Also straws, I seen a pack of 4 reusable metal ones for a quid and kick myself every time I make a frappe for not buying them lol!

Andrea87 · 24/08/2021 01:31

A couple of new bras - they have been washed, stretched and are near to bursting so that the whatsits don’t fit in them any more properly. One day it will go twang and i shall be wearing this around my ears.

FrenchBulldogsareFab · 24/08/2021 01:33

A second full sized laundry basket. Now I have two, one for whites and other for darks. No more rooting through one basket to separate before loading machine.

SheSaidHummingbird · 24/08/2021 01:43

baffledcoconut Since when does Waitrose sell knickers?

Wingedharpy · 24/08/2021 02:01

@Orla1970 : Google tube roller key, and save yourself from finger amputation - provided you get round to buying one, of course.

Toooldforthis321 · 24/08/2021 02:06

A plastic storage box for the pool to be stored in. The reason why: the size I need has turned out to be not so cheap 🙄
