I've seen this appalling ad a few times

Two young children dangling upside down by their knees, eating cheese in the hope that if they eat it upside down it will feed their brains

It took me a while to catch what it was actually advertising, but now I know, I am making a formal complaint

I cant believe how utterly stupid and irresponsible this is an as example to junior school aged children

OP posts:
Flipflopblowout · 23/08/2021 16:30

Wow, how many people have died eating cheese while hanging upside down then?

lyntheyresexpeople · 23/08/2021 16:32

@BoredZelda

have worked in A and E and seen deaths from this sort of thing

Sure. I’ll bet you couldn’t move for deaths from people hanging upside down eating cheese triangles.

Absolutely howling at this 😂😂😂
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/08/2021 16:35

@NConrepeat

YANBU - have you seen the long ingredients list for Dairylea? Laughing Cow only has 4 ingredients. That is all.
I suppose it depends what the 4 ingredients are, if they are some like ; Asbestos Spent nuclear fuel rods Fly agaric and Tuna eyeballs, then one might be better off with Dairylea triangles! 🧀
Waspsarearseholes · 23/08/2021 16:41

Christ OP, you really do post some guff on here.
Anybody else remember the increasingly desperate and furious repetitions of 'insulin spikes' on the thread about snacking from the other day?

Lysianthus · 23/08/2021 16:43

My mascara(pone) is running, thank you for such a hilarious thread 🤣

PineapplePanda · 23/08/2021 16:49

It's not going to happen.

Waspsarearseholes · 23/08/2021 16:56

@PineapplePanda - good one! 😂

Chikapu · 23/08/2021 16:57

I have a weird swallowing issue that causes me to choke on a lot of things, soft cheese is one of the things I can manage easily though. Even when I'm not sitting bolt upright at the table. It has little substance and wouldn't lodge surely?
I wonder how many choking people are thinking 'god, I wish there was a biologist around'?

HalloHello · 23/08/2021 17:04

What kind of biologist works in a&e???

Ostryga · 23/08/2021 17:05

I wonder how many choking people are thinking 'god, I wish there was a biologist around'?

This thread is the gift that keeps on giving 🤣🤣

Lweji · 23/08/2021 17:11

What kind of biologist works in a&e???

The OP could have worked in A&E, wiping floors or something, and then graduated in Biology.

More seriously, a biomedical graduate would conduct lab tests. I doubt any would spend any significant length of time on the floor, let alone witnessing choking victims that they'd know had been hanging upside down when eating. I'm having trouble imagining why a lab person would be called to even analyse a choke victim sample.

But, I'd love to know more about the OP's experience.

Clymene · 23/08/2021 17:18

So you're a biologist who worked in A&E? In what capacity?

sweeneytoddsrazor · 23/08/2021 17:19

Now I come to think about it our local children's hospital benefits tremendously from the Wallace and Gromit appeal, maybe its guilt money for all that cheese they eat?

RedHelenB · 23/08/2021 17:23

Laugh out loud!

I think it would be nigh on impossible to eat upside down anyway!

Georgyporky · 23/08/2021 17:32

I remember thinking that wearing Tampax would improve my tennis, according to the ads.

Didn't know what it was, but begged DM for some.

shockedandsadd · 23/08/2021 17:34

Yavvvu
Is this a wind up!!
I think it's a lovely advert. Reminds me of when I was little I used to watch tv upside in the sofa eating biscuits !! I am still here! Stop being so ridiculous !

Bluntness100 · 23/08/2021 17:35
@Bluntness100

Did you ever choke to death when you ate things upside down?
Ssshhhh several times!

Oh wait, no my oesophages works like everyone else ans propels the food to my stomach, right way round or upside down. Soft cheese, ice lollies, it’s all good. 😃

Siepie · 23/08/2021 17:35

@titchy

Not being upright is also a contributory factor in child choking deaths

You're being disengenuous. The danger from not being upright is lying on your back unconscious not hanging upside down. The risk of being upside vs upright is no different.

This.

Children (and adults) are more likely to choke if not upright... because if they're not upright, they're generally lying down and food can fall into the trachea.

If they're hanging upside down, what special anti-gravity force do you think is going to force the food upright into the trachea?

Siepie · 23/08/2021 17:36

*upward into the trachea

SimonJT · 23/08/2021 17:41

@LavenderAskew

Cheese chocking aside. What patient-facing job does a biologist do in A&E?

Feel like I missed a trick, I loved ER.

The OP is a teacher as well, I wasn’t aware schools timetabled classes in their local A&E department!
anon12345678901 · 23/08/2021 17:44

OP you said you work in Education in your thread about XR.. did you forget which job you do? Hmm

SimonJT · 23/08/2021 17:45

@Waspsarearseholes

Some very interesting made up statistics as well, apparently a higher proportion of working class people attended university in the 1950’s compared to the last decade, oh, in the 1950’s and 1960’s as well most GPs were working class.

As a type one diabetic I was tempted to correct the insulin spike info, I could have even posted my own levels. But I sadly don’t have the superior knowledge that OP has access to.

Mankyfruitbowl · 23/08/2021 18:01

Must admit I laughed at the cheese puns, but I actually think OP has a point. I know children possibly including my own who might watch that ad and decide to copy it with whatever snack they had to hand - and would just be lolling over the back of the sofa with food in their mouths. Not a good idea.

Waspsarearseholes · 23/08/2021 18:02

@SimonJT - type 1 here too! But what do we know, eh?!
