Disgustingly Filthy

I spilt something on a canvas bag - decided to clean this and a pile of other soft rucksacks, laptop bags, etc.
Chucked them all in the bath with some pre-wash soaker, and they're now in the washing machine. The colour of the water in the bath was revolting - and I'd been carrying these bags around with me - YUK
They didn't look dory - but obviously carting round in city grime, etc.
I occasionally throw lightweight totes in with the washing - but how does everyone else keep this kind of stuff clean? - and how often?

Not enabled voting - definitely BU carting them round dirty Blush

@VladmirsPoutine

It took an entire global pandemic for some people to not only learn how to wash their hands but for some people to even start washing their hands at all!!
And still they dont wash their hands where I work.

I've now got Christina Aguilera Dirrty in my head thanks to OP..

Port1aCastis · 22/08/2021 16:41

Why do folks troop around gawping at other people's bags, life's too short for that level of judgefuckery!

EspressoDoubleShot · 22/08/2021 16:43

Gawping and grading the filth rating of strangers bags,purses, car seats, prams

VladmirsPoutine · 22/08/2021 16:43

There is something to the cleanliness and class discourse though isn't there? Don't those landed gentry types thrive on having wonky yellow teeth, showering twice a week and kissing their Labradors

Allwillbefine · 22/08/2021 16:43

I can’t get worked up about this. The dirty looking water will be about 98% dye coming from the fabric of the bags.

ThanksIGotItInMorrisons · 22/08/2021 16:46

I’m more likely to notice a filthy jacket or coat that needs a good wash. Many people forget about them. Never bothered what someone’s bags look like.

Thecazelets · 22/08/2021 16:46

This is almost as good as the recent thread on wiping your keys.

Looubylou · 22/08/2021 16:46

I admit to tending towards OCD in terms of preventing spread infection, but even I am laughing out loud at some of these posts. I have a 15 year old hiking/ cooler picnic rucksack, that I clean inside and out, using shower head, once in a blue moon. Quick wipe inside with a flash wipe as required. I just don't even think about my many other bags. Reusable carrier bags, might get turned inside out and flash wiped if a bit wiffy. I can't wait to tell my family I'm actually a complete minger after all 😂

tigger1001 · 22/08/2021 16:47

Don't actually have any tote bags.

Would wash a rucksack if I thought it needed it but not as a habit.

Life is too short to worry about bags. And honestly don't think I've ever noticed someone's bag/purse/mobile phone cover while waiting to pay for something in a shop.

Actually over cleaning is more likely to lead to shortened lifespan because you are dampening your immune system by removing exposure to everyday mild and harmless bacteria that help build your immunity and antibodies and thats not to mention the over exposure to all the horrible unnatural and harsh chemicals often used in cleaning.

@mrsborisjohnson

Oh great, a thread where all the good little women shame all the bad, dirty, nasty women for not washing their tote bags often enough.
😂😂
sirfredfredgeorge · 22/08/2021 16:57

The colour of the water in the bath was revolting

Thinks which aren't washed much, don't tend to use wash safe dyes, so it's as likely the dye colouring the water as dirt.

Bananalanacake · 22/08/2021 16:59

Why don't you just buy 30 at the start of each month and incinerate the bag after one use.

butterpuffed · 22/08/2021 17:03

@Myshitisreal

I have a bit of a backpack obsession, kipling specifically, and I wash them regularly. On a 30degree 30ninute wash, they dry quickly. They never get to the point that they're filthy. They're incredibly fit for purpose.

People always seem to have dirty purses 🤮

Worrying that you even notice that some people have dirty purses
mrsborisjohnson · 22/08/2021 17:08

Perhaps we should have routine inspections before being allowed to enter the supermarket. On presenting your purse, phone cover, tote bag and shoes to the warden on entry you receive a little stamp in your hausfrau book which means you have met the required cleanliness standards. Any women who don't meet these are forced to wear the toilet seat of shame around their necks as they shop, and are only permitted to buy cleaning products so that they can return home immediately, clean themselves up and return to for the opportunity to buy food after an intimate inspection and the taking of skull measurements to aid the national eugenics program.

HalfwomanHalfcookie · 22/08/2021 17:09

Who knew? There are people out there judging others on their purses.

mrsborisjohnson · 22/08/2021 17:12

These women should also be microchipped, of course, so that they can be identified by the authorities. They clearly have an unwholesome agenda, as well as low self-esteem.

saraclara · 22/08/2021 17:26

Our immune systems need challenging to be effective. It's like having a daily workout as opposed to them sitting on the sofa all day and failing to be able to jump up when needed.

My immune system goes to the gym every day.

5128gap · 22/08/2021 17:28

@Thewiseoneincognito

I often look at people carrying filthy bags and wonder if they’re aware how scruffy they look or if they even care, probably low self esteem.

Ever been at the supermarket and someone pulls out a purse that looks like they dug it up from landfill? Gross. The same with mobile phone covers.

Let’s not even start on shoes either, some people were dragged up.

Hygiene aside, arguably people 'who don't even care' how they look to others have higher self esteem than people who need to note and compare how clean someone's purse is to feel superior/good about themselves.
sadperson16 · 22/08/2021 17:32

Noone died from a dirty bag...true enough. But someone may have died from being one.

Rosesviolets · 22/08/2021 17:42

I'm not that fussed about general grime on bags unless obviously marked but like a PP said I can't bear filthy prams with encrusted dirt and food on, same for toddler coats and pram suits and blankets etc. Just disgusting. You can tell it's not a fresh mark, it's ingrained different types of stains.

Personally I don’t give a fuck. It’s not my baby in it. 🤷‍♀️

Many people have died falling off a high horse too.
