I’ve just re-watched A Star is Born and sobbed like there’s no tomorrow. Made me think about other films that have hit me hard.
Green Mile is another real sob fest.

Any others? I’d like to build a ‘I need a good cry’ collection Grin

Arrival as others mentioned is one of the most multi layered films of all time. Beautiful

100% agree.

The Imitation Game - the end when he's having to take those drugs snd being treated so horrendously despite all his amazing work.

Star is Born here too.

Seventimesaday · 21/08/2021 21:20

Most of the ones mentioned so far, plus
Million Dollar Baby and more recently
Bohemian Rhapsody. Couldn’t actually leave the cinema for a while the first time I watched it.

Peasweet · 21/08/2021 21:21

@MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers
TMD took me by surprise.. had no preconceived ideas about it at all and was shocked by my reaction. Your's, however, completely understandable. Sorry about your DH.

WSS the film, every time. It's my favourite and have seen it on stage three times, (Sadlers Wells was amazing) yet no tears whatsoever!

Haudyourwheesht · 21/08/2021 21:22

@Butteredtoast55

Oh so many things but like others have said, About Time gets me every single time. Even knowing it's coming I sob at the beach scene and LONG to have that kind of chance again with my beloved DPs. Also, Tom Hanks in Philadelphia. I went to see it at the cinema with DH and literally didn't stop crying until after we were home. But the worst ever was Les Miserables on stage. I was completely beside myself for hours. The following day I rang my friend who I'd seen it with and cried again for over an hour about Fantine and Cosette until she firmly told me it wasn't real and to get a grip Grin.

When I saw Les Mis in London I cried, visibly, all the way back to the hotel. We were supposed to go for a drink after but that was not an option.

Beautifulbutterfly · 21/08/2021 21:23

The Book Thief (brilliant film, i’ve yet to read the actual book!) - I rewatched it the other evening and cried my eyes out at the end.

Mydogmylife · 21/08/2021 21:24

@Somanysocks

A Dog's Purpose, where a dog reincarnates and gets back to his original owner.
Oh god yes- I howled at this !
MrsMop1964 · 21/08/2021 21:26

which version of A Star is Born? Judy Garland makes me howl, but the subsequent remakes don't.

Bakewellisntjustacake · 21/08/2021 21:27

I sobbed and I mean sobbed at me before you

Haudyourwheesht · 21/08/2021 21:28

One that took me by surprised was Tangled. When Rapunzel was reunited with her mother. DD3 was Hmm

Bakewellisntjustacake · 21/08/2021 21:28

The first 10 mins of up! That was hard!!

About time

UrgentExitRequiredAC12 · 21/08/2021 21:29

Philadelphia - I'm in tears at basically most of it, but particularly the end at Andrew's memorial where the home movies of him growing up are playing against the background music of Neil Young's 'Philadelphia'.

rainyskylight · 21/08/2021 21:30

The Railway Children - the scene where Bobby runs along the platform calling “Daddy my Daddy”. I well up just thinking about it.

Mammyloveswine · 21/08/2021 21:32

The notebook...omg I can remember watching it with my mam and at first she was like "nah it's a bit shit"..45 mins later me and her both sobbing!!

UsernameNotAvailableApparently · 21/08/2021 21:34

I am only halfway through these recommendations and there’s so many I haven’t seen! Some great ones too - I, Daniel Blake especially.

As some PP said in response to @WorraLiberty I too generally put a tear jerker on so that I can bawl. I chose A Star is Born for a particular reason today as I needed that emotional release (and a good ole sob). Did the trick!

Mammyloveswine · 21/08/2021 21:35

Oh god just seen the fault in our stars mentioned 😭😭😭

There's a walk to remember too...Nicholas sparks knows how to get the tears flowing!!

AramintaLee · 21/08/2021 21:35

Field of Dreams... THAT final scene... the whole build up to it, the spectacular music by James Horner. I've never not cried and I watch it at least once a year.

UrgentExitRequiredAC12 · 21/08/2021 21:36

And 'Gladiator' when Maximus is dying in the coliseum and he sees himself walking through the cornfields back to his murdered wife and son...the music...oh my!

Last time we watched it I sobbed and sobbed, my teenaged DC's were so concerned, bless 'em. I did get lots of hugs from them.

Mammyloveswine · 21/08/2021 21:44

Just thought of another one.. Sophie's choice...omg.. I have two children and I just can't even

Sarahlou63 · 21/08/2021 21:46

Drop Dead Fred.

Strange Relations/My Favourite Son - Julie Walters is sublime.
