How the fuck do I deal with this

1lifeliveitright · 21/08/2021 11:05

I've NC for obvious reasons. Just picked up my 17yr old dd from a 'friend's' house where she stayed last night. She's in a right state. She hasn't known this girl long and I don't know her at all but they have other mutual friends and she's gone back to her flat before after nights out.
So dd is crying and has been stabbed repeatedly with a tattoo gun in the leg. It's bruised and swollen and there was apparently alot of blood. Obvious needle mark. I've bathed it and it looks OK but I'm worried about infection. The fucking needle won't have been sterilised either.
I wanted to call the police there and then but dd has begged me not to as no-one does that and it'll have repercussions .
This girl is 18 and obviously dd is still a child. Any advice?

@lljkk A and E can prescribe PEP if it's needed.

frerecoler · 21/08/2021 13:10

Oh my goodness, this has made my blood run cold. I hope your DD is ok. And the police really should be involved

HalzTangz · 21/08/2021 13:11

@1lifeliveitright

A&E or call for out of hrs doctor? Regarding police I totally agree but dd has refused to give names or comply in any way. I only know the girl's first name and where the flat is not the exact address. She says if she snitches they'll get her beaten up etc etc. And sadly I think she's right.
A&E first and foremost.

You picked her up so you know the address, call the police. She will gives names when police turn up

However, you first need to find out if your daughter agreed to a tattoo, then the pain changed her mind, or if the girl just randomly jabbed her with the tattoo. I suspect it's the first option hence why daughter not wanting the police (as she gave consent to the tattoo)

HalzTangz · 21/08/2021 13:15

@1lifeliveitright

Dd is asleep as didn't go to sleep all night. It was a stupid power control game gone wrong. This girl must be a maniac or something. She said to dd that she could really hurt her and to see who could take the most pain. Both were drunk. Dd let her do it but obviously it was taken too far and she's really hurt her. Then dd had to do it back to her. Which she did but nothing like what she did to her.
And that's the reason she don't want the police involved she consented and took part in a stupid game. Wake her up and take her A&E, health is more important than a kip

I thought licensee tattooists had to keep equipment safe and locked away

There are strict regulations to abide by...whoever this equipment belongs to should be banned

lljkk · 21/08/2021 13:24

@EyebeIbewe what forms of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) would be appropriate? How would which PEP was needed do they swab the wounds & get an almost instant assessment of what germs are in there?

or do they just give anti-virals out easily on basis of unknown germs that might be in there even though it sounds like there are no visible wounds -- do the anti-virals have no side effects worth worrying about? And they are low cost, too?

Ivchangedmynameforthis · 21/08/2021 13:24

Op it's not just long term infections such as HIV or Hepatitis you need to be concerned about. My DH contracted sepsis from a puncture wound. Look out for redness and / or tracking and in increase in pain along with high temp and vomiting. I'd 100% get her checked out as things turned nasty quite quickly in our situation and he is very lucky to be here with his limb still attached.

User5827372728 · 21/08/2021 13:25

I would take to a&e and inquiry about what vaccinations she could have. Hepatitis jab? Tetnus maybe? I would also call the police

Still1nLove · 21/08/2021 13:29

So your dd and this girl were drunk and took turns to stab each other with the tattoo gun to see who could take the most pain? The police are not going to be interested.
Why didn’t your dd say no and just leave?

Skatastic · 21/08/2021 13:31

This has genuinely made me feel sick. I hope she is OK. And you.

lljkk · 21/08/2021 13:32

PEP for HIV-exposure described, but in contrast, Terrence Higgins trust talks about just a few pills to take a few times, not a full 7 day programme.

PEP for hepatitis is described variously...

I hope OP updates with outcome if they do decide to go to A&E.

What world do you live in?

Just go onto amazon and search for tattoo gun.

There are plenty available from as little as £20.

Should amazon be banned?

How the fuck you deal with this is to get her up and get access to PEP now. You have 72 hours but within 24 is better.
Any needle use, I'd be doing this, you cannot wait on bloods - just get her the Truvada to be extra safe.

Welshiefluff · 21/08/2021 13:47

Go to the hospital but not the police. It cannot be undone and this other girl sounds like a complete basket case. It is not worth the hassle.

SpaceBethSmith · 21/08/2021 14:07

A&E right now, it needs cleaning, dressing and she will need blood tests.

cptartapp · 21/08/2021 14:14

It's an A&E job. General practice is not a walk in service for accidents and emergencies.
She needs baseline screening bloods and a rapid course of Hep B vaccination starting at the very least. Out of hours are not equipped for this.
Practice nurse.

EyebeIbewe · 21/08/2021 14:43

@lljkk - no they will do a risk assessment before making any decision on PEP. Risk assessment will include things like whether the needle was clean, etc. Yes, anti virals have side effects. However, they will also start all the BBV screening that needs to happen, and ensure there are appointments made for the follow up appointment to - some BBVs lie dormant.

Haven't seen the wounds so don't know what they will do with those but one possibility is irrigation and course of antibiotics. I don't know how far a needle of a tattoo gun could go in.

1lifeliveitright · 21/08/2021 16:19

She's getting ready to go now. I've begged her to go earlier but she's point blank refused.
Just to be clear the girl deliberately forced the gun in her really hard for about 5 minutes to see how much she could take it. There is no actually tattoo. Just an incision where the needle has gone in and it's bruised and swollen. Dd was then told to do it back to her. The idea being it was a power trip to see who could stand it the longest. My dd agreed to do both but I think more out of fear than anything else. And she was far too drunk which is something else I'm not happy about.

Well done for getting her to go.

That's a win.

(Going later is probably part hangover, part face-saving, part re-gaining autonomy she's lost, part just-being-young.)

1lifeliveitright · 21/08/2021 16:34

She's just come down. It doesn't look bad at all. I take it she still needs to go?
I feel like I'm wasting their time

Def take her, take no chances

Thelnebriati · 21/08/2021 16:38

Yews she still needs to go to A&E straight away, she needs preventative drugs for hepatitis and HIV.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/08/2021 16:40

If the skin has been broken then she needs to get it checked. She has been stabbed with possibly dirty needles.

IamNotDarling · 21/08/2021 16:42

Yes, with any sharp puncture there’s a risk of HIV, hepatitis or other blood borne infection. Get medical attention for her ASAP.
