Have any celebrities gone missing?!

No AIBU just posting here as more people use this topic.

I know being famous means you cannot leave your old life and start again like some missing people must.

Some people just vanish though don't they? Taking no money or ID.

Can people just "disappear? I know a lot of these people will have been murdered and no evidence found but how come it hadn't happened to anyone famous.

Had a drink tonight abs I can't really put it into words what I'm trying to say.

[quote SeaDreaming]A lot of people have personal reasons for choosing to go missing.

Esther Beadle's account of going missing and the aftermath is worth a read.

Thanks for sharing that. I missed it when it was published earlier this year. I know Esther slightly, interesting read.

@Hypnoshiding 😂😂😂😂 yes!!!

InFiveMins · 22/08/2021 19:34

@AutistGoth

Plenty of celebrities have gone missing. Just a few for you to look up:

Jodi Huisentruit - a North American news reporter. Most likely abducted by a stalker. Flowers

Barbara Newhall Follet - North American child prodigy novelist. Walked out on her husband and was never seen again.

Jim Sullivan - a folk rock musician.

Connie Converse - Also a musician.

"Sweet Jimmy" Robinson - Very sad story. He was a boxer and one of Mohammed Ali's early opponents. It was only when a boxing enthusiast wanted to track down all of Ali's opponents and get their autographs that they realised that Sweet Jimmy hadn't been seen since 1979 and at that point, he was living on the streets. Sad

Sean Flynn - the son of Errol. Disappeared in Vietnam whilst working as a war correspondent.

Jasmine Duhanna - Not very well known in the Western World, but she is an Indian actress; best known for her work in horror movies. She has had to go into hiding after coming to the attention of one Dawood Ibrahim: a sort of Indian Mafia boss. No one knows where she is, but she is apparently still alive. Understandably, she is lying very low.

I have a bit of a morbid fascination with unsolved disappearances (not just people, anything that mysteriously vanished, including films, songs etc), hence why I could name a few unaccounted for celebrities off the top of my head! Smile

@AutistGoth I love missing songs and films, you probably already know of this particular one but if not, this "missing song" fascinates me!:

InFiveMins · 22/08/2021 19:37

Although actually it probably is more of an unknown artist rather than a missing/vanishing song, but along the same lines!

tearsforfears72 · 22/08/2021 19:37

Camilo Cienfuegos (led the Cuban Revolution with Fidel Castro, his plane went missing mysteriously in 1959, presumed dead)

CrankyFrankie · 22/08/2021 19:51

Lucan just came out on iplayer/itv and is worth a watch if you’re in this frame of mind!

restingbitchface30 · 22/08/2021 19:58

@craigsgirlfriend ah John deacon. Poor guy never got over Freddie’s death. I wonder what he’s doing now??

AfternoonToffee · 22/08/2021 20:14

@ToffeeNotCoffee

John Darwin is the name of, 'Canoe Man.'

He and his wife were complicit in swindling £250,000 from an insurance company by him faking his own death.

One million pounds was wasted searching for him.

He came home and lived in the attic of their home. His wife knew all about it and was his accomplice. Despite doing the downtrodden housewife routine.

He grew a beard and pretended to be a handyman when strangers visited their home.

He stole the identity of a dead baby to get a new passport for himself. He purchased a ranch in America and went to live there but pissed off his business partner and was asked to leave town. He tried to purchase a yacht to sail around the world on but the deal fell through.

He went to prison for the fraud. Despite telling police that he came back to Britain from Panama (where he and his wife had purchased land) to repay it.

He is a fantasist and a nasty piece of work.

He no longer has a relationship with either of his sons as they were upset about being lied to about his death and he also used them to launder money without them knowing.

And his poor parents suffered too.
Reloxa · 22/08/2021 20:33

@Sharindlar1st

Nor a celebrity but her daughter - Linda Goodmans daughter went missing and was never found :(
I just looked that up, what a strange story.
IndieR22 · 22/08/2021 20:34

Fascinating post! Thank you, OP. So many tabs open with different names to read about whilst the LO naps tomorrow!

RevolvingPivot · 22/08/2021 20:36

@AutistGoth

Was it you who begun the thread about places with a strange vibe, OP? I loved that one!

It would appear thst we have quite a few interests in common! I'm autistic too, though not dyslexic.

That was me too.

Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, though not particularly a celebrity. Such odd circumstances around that.
This evil bastard must be found and brought to justice. Just horrific. A recent documentary revealed that the family home where he murdered his wife, kids and dog has been forensically cleaned, tarted up and sold. They interviewed the selling agent who commented that there had been a surprising amount of serious interest and it sold quite quickly. Tbh I found that pretty sickening and have no idea how anyone would be willing to market the property and do viewings, let alone actually buy the house and live in it, knowing what happened there. Should have been razed to the ground as they did with the Wests’ House.
deste · 22/08/2021 20:52

My sister who is very highly educated, ( think 2 doctorates) is convinced Hitler didn’t die, nor Elvis, nor Princess Diana or Michael Jackson and also Jeffrey Epstein, they just disappeared.

AutistGoth · 22/08/2021 20:58

@InFiveMins No I hadn't heard of that one, thank you for the info! Smile I'll enjoy reading about that.

@RevolvingPivot I knew I recognised the username! Please keep up the good work with your thought provoking, highly entertaining threads! I've never posted a thread before - just commented on other people's. Here's hoping that I'll be brave enough some day. Grin

rosy71 · 22/08/2021 21:11

Mrs Thatcher's son went missing in the desert I seem to remember. He was found again though.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/08/2021 21:12

"Why doesn't the media out Banksy if they know who he is?

He is a very good artist, but his main cachet is his mystery. Without that, his USP (and dare I say the premium prices that his work attracts) is gone. Plus, if he is just somebody non-famous, revealing who he is would be pointless."

Elena Ferrante was 'outed' and she was just an ordinary person really.

whynotwhatknot · 22/08/2021 21:12

I would never forgive m parents for pretending one of them was dead couldnt give a shit about the money

StrangeLookingParasite · 22/08/2021 21:13

Even more hilariously it’s called the ‘Harold Holt Swim Centre’.

It used to be the Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Pool. It's a truly ugly brutalist concrete structure in a fairly upper middle class suburb of Melbourne.

It's part of a row of houses, in Nantes, where housing is really, really sought after.
Just people being pragmatic, though I definitely agree with you about this shitweasel needing to be found and punished.

Not what we are talking about but Keith Chegwin’s nephew is one of People Just Do Nothing. www.ok.co.uk/celebrity-news/keith-chegwin-dead-nephew-hugo-14477709

youboozeyoulose · 22/08/2021 21:24

Not a mystery, but the very sad case of Mark Speight is the only time I recall the police for appealing for information on the whereabouts of a celebrity. Such a tragic story www.business-live.co.uk/economic-development/police-issue-cctv-images-missing-3961273

iseeu · 22/08/2021 21:25

Reading through the Grunge article makes me want to read The House Without Windows by Barbara Newhall Follett - she disappeared in 1936, she wrote/had the novel published when she was 13 which is pretty extraordinary.
Her husband didn't report the diappearance, and her mother didn't find out until the 1950s.

pantherrose · 22/08/2021 21:26

@ StrangeLookingParasite
Yup, I worked in immobilier (in the south of France) for a number of years and people never cease to surprise me. Pragmatic would be one way of describing it, but I know I could never sleep easy there!
