No AIBU just posting here as more people use this topic.

I know being famous means you cannot leave your old life and start again like some missing people must.

Some people just vanish though don't they? Taking no money or ID.

Can people just "disappear? I know a lot of these people will have been murdered and no evidence found but how come it hadn't happened to anyone famous.

Had a drink tonight abs I can't really put it into words what I'm trying to say.

Sinead O'Connor, though she reappeared safe and well a couple of days later.

It's a great thread @RevolvingPivot, peoples stories are fascinating

Rylan Clarke? He had split with his husband and has not been coping very well with it.

I thought he had recently recorded a pod cast and was re-kindling his relationship with his husband.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 21/08/2021 18:17

Rylan Clark-Neal is currently recording the t.v. series, 'It takes two.'

(Ironic, really)

John Darwin is the name of, 'Canoe Man.'

He and his wife were complicit in swindling £250,000 from an insurance company by him faking his own death.

One million pounds was wasted searching for him.

He came home and lived in the attic of their home. His wife knew all about it and was his accomplice. Despite doing the downtrodden housewife routine.

He grew a beard and pretended to be a handyman when strangers visited their home.

He stole the identity of a dead baby to get a new passport for himself. He purchased a ranch in America and went to live there but pissed off his business partner and was asked to leave town. He tried to purchase a yacht to sail around the world on but the deal fell through.

He went to prison for the fraud. Despite telling police that he came back to Britain from Panama (where he and his wife had purchased land) to repay it.

He is a fantasist and a nasty piece of work.

He no longer has a relationship with either of his sons as they were upset about being lied to about his death and he also used them to launder money without them knowing.

I am shocked to see Fan Bingbing on this list! (You have to scroll down a lot.)

Great actress - very likeable. It seems that she is no longer 'missing' but it all sounds very scary.

@RevolvingPivot Your original post made perfect sense so post away and please don't worry in future.

@SafeMove

Avril Lavigne is meant to have gone missing and been replaced to carry on making the music people money. Don't go down the rabbit hole and Google it. You will never get that time back...
I love these conspiracy theories, Eminem is another one. I just don’t get why anyone would pretend to be them for years just so they can make even more money when they were rich and successful enough at the supposed time of their disappearance/death. Avril hasn’t really done anything for a decade anyway so her doppelgänger is seriously slacking…
QueefofSheena · 21/08/2021 23:13

John Stonehouse was discovered when he was picked up in Australia. He’d been identified by mistake as Lord Lucan.

Some people believe that Jim Morrison’s death was faked, can’t remember exactly why.

smashionaltreasure · 22/08/2021 00:14

Why doesn't the media out Banksy if they know who he is? Everyone would buy the paper that far. If they don't know, why don't they know. If they know, why don't they say?

Forstarters · 22/08/2021 00:58

Banksy is hardly a huge secret. It’s just not an exciting person. It’s a man. Who makes great art

smashionaltreasure · 22/08/2021 01:32

Who the funk is he then?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/08/2021 01:32

Is it Mr Maker?

Just about every episode of his 'around the world - which country will he be in this time?' tour seems to end up with him somewhere in the UK, so plausible, plausible. A Go-Jetter he most certainly is not Grin

Why doesn't the media out Banksy if they know who he is?

He is a very good artist, but his main cachet is his mystery. Without that, his USP (and dare I say the premium prices that his work attracts) is gone. Plus, if he is just somebody non-famous, revealing who he is would be pointless.

It would be like when I watched The Masked Singer US, joining in with the "Who are you?!?!?!" - and then, once the majority of them had removed their masks and their names been announced joyfully by the host, I was still shouting "Who are you?!?!?!" Grin

smashionaltreasure · 22/08/2021 01:32

I do believe I just said funk.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/08/2021 01:34

Wouldn't it just be magnificent if it turns out that Banksy is the 'original' Paul McCartney or something?! Grin

RubyGoat · 22/08/2021 01:51

It's likely that Amelia Earhart was found, or at least part of her was, but her remains were lost & can't now be recovered, so no DNA identification can be done. Other evidence found at the site more recently, strongly suggests the remains were of her though. Trigger Warning - it's a bit gruesome.

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 22/08/2021 02:09

Keith Chegwin is dead?!!!

Buttybach · 22/08/2021 02:10

Lord Lucan
Pierre le Prince an early photography pioneer

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/08/2021 02:14

Keith Chegwin is dead?!!!

Yes, he wasn't that old. It's a bit of a shame that he did that Naked Jungle thing so late in his career, though (if at all). That's the thing that now sticks out (so to speak) in people's minds about him, but he (and his enthusiasm) was responsible for a whole load of really exciting, captivating programmes that shouldn't be overlooked.

Buttybach · 22/08/2021 02:18

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everett_Ruess

Everett Ruess is also extremely interesting

XelaM · 22/08/2021 02:30

Lord Lucan is still one of the biggest mysteries

XelaM · 22/08/2021 02:34

@QueefofSheena Of course, Jim Morrison! One of the most beautiful men that ever lived Blush

No one ever saw his body except allegedly his (out-of-it-on-drugs) girlfriend

Not a sleb though.....just a crook!

I dont blame her sons for not talking to him. I remember saying to my mum at the time, if she was Anne Darwin, I could forgive the fake insurance claim, though I'd be shocked. But I could never, ever forgive her telling me my dad was dead and letting me believe it for years, knowing it wasn't true . Shocking behaviour.

Sorry it's the daily mail but here is a great follow up of the Darwins from 2015.
I love 'where are they now' articles.

Thanks….that’s 30 minutes I’ll never get back Grin

Although a lot of those are missing, after disappearing in a plane/boat in very bad weather, so their fate doesn’t seem too mysterious.

I've just read that article. How do they find all this stuff out?

Where his ex wife works. How much money they have in the bank. Where he lived before? Do they have private investigators?
