AIBU - They forgot DS(5) lunch

DS (5) has been going to a holiday club for a couple of days a week. Today they had a day out to an activity centre which was a coach ride away. I dropped DD off this morning with a backpack containing his drink, swimmers and coat etc and he was carrying his packed lunch in a lunch bag.

Somehow the lunch bag got left behind so he didn’t have his lunch with him. I gather they cobbled together a lunch from other children for him but I don’t know whether to be pissed off that they didn’t remind him/check that he had his lunch bag before they left.

I’m about 50:50 on it - I should have probably put it in his bag but also he is only 5 and hasn’t been on a trip very often so I would have thought they might double check.

So who is BU?

YABU - I should have put the lunch bag in his main bag, or
YANBU - they should have double checked/reminded the younger children to make sure they had all their things

Am off to pick it up tomorrow a d interested in the general views before I think how to approach it

Mine attached their lunch bags to their backpacks so they dont forget them.

helpfulperson · 19/08/2021 19:17

To be honest I would have checked each child had a bag. It wouldn't have occurred to me to check that their lunch was in the bag not separate.

MattHancocksSexTape · 19/08/2021 19:18

By sending two bags you made things so much more complicated.

icedcoffees · 19/08/2021 19:18

I suspect they didn't realise he had a separate bag.

Next time, just give him one bag to look after.

NinaGonk · 19/08/2021 19:19

They will have thought it was in his bag, nice of them to cobble together food, probably from their own lunches.

User5827372728 · 19/08/2021 19:19

Meh yea I wouldn’t raise it. Most kids have one bag, he got fed, he has learnt a lesson, move on

GreyhoundG1rl · 19/08/2021 19:20

The lunch bag should have gone in the backpack. They'll have assumed that's where it was, and apparently so did he!

SailYourShips · 19/08/2021 19:21

They could have given a general shout out to the group but maybe they did. Not one to cause a fuss about, I don't think.

Pinotwoman82 · 19/08/2021 19:21

Ah yes agree with PP they probably saw every child had a bag and just assumed lunch was in their bags

LemonRoses · 19/08/2021 19:22

He got to eat. There is no problem.

Siameasy · 19/08/2021 19:22

It was just a mistake, no need to mention it. Next time I would attach the lunch bag or put it in the rucksack as this is more foolproof.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 19/08/2021 19:22

Imagine they will have checked they all had their bags with them. At five, I wouldn’t expect two bags for a trip whatsoever.
They rectified the situation and he didn’t go hungry so I’d not raise it at all.

KarmaStar · 19/08/2021 19:24

Yabu one bag was enough for him to think about.

Sparklybanana · 19/08/2021 19:25

I dunno. I think they should have checked there was a lunch in the bag because its not unheard of for parents to be the ones forgetting a lunch. I've been called because lunch boxes are still sitting in the car and not with my child. It's a quick check.

Twickerhun · 19/08/2021 19:25

I’d be thanking them for making sure he got fed. Blame or feedback probably isn’t going to help. I suspect they will check more next time and you have learned to keep it simple

Jasmine11 · 19/08/2021 19:26

I'm sure if they saw your DS was carrying a bag they would assume it had lunch in it. I don't think the staff are at fault here. 5 year olds are not reliable enough to remember 2 bags, out of interest why did you put the lunch in a separate bag?

BareVanilla · 19/08/2021 19:26

One bag big enough to hold lunch, hoodies, swimwear, drink and everything else. Don’t ask a 5 year old or even a fun energetic great with the kids 17/18 year old remember 2 bags per child.

NoSquirrels · 19/08/2021 19:26

Just one of those things. Next time they’ll double-check, and next time you’ll put it in his rucksack.

On every school trip or activity group I’ve ever assisted in with children, someone hasn’t got their lunch, for a variety of reasons. It happens!

Casmama · 19/08/2021 19:26

You have learned it's easier to put lunch in his bag a d they have learned to check everyone has their lunch with them- don't know what would be achieved by getting worked up about it or complaining

notanothertakeaway · 19/08/2021 19:27

It's not a big deal. Don't complain. Have you never made a mistake?

thefirstmrsrochester · 19/08/2021 19:27

I wouldn’t say anything, he didn’t go without.

MeredithGreyishblue · 19/08/2021 19:27

It's a non event to pick up with them! They did you a favour by making sure he ate. You shouldn't have sent 2 bags.

Doomscrolling · 19/08/2021 19:28

The important thing is they discovered he hadn’t got food and solved the issue.

Your son was fed, you know he needs his lunch in his bag, everything is shiny.

LividLaVidaLoca · 19/08/2021 19:28

Yeah the only complaint to be made here would’ve been if he didn’t eat.

Otherwise just an oversight and I’d be saying thanks for making sure he didn’t go hungry tbh.

AdultHumanWhale · 19/08/2021 19:28

They almost certainly did have someone checking that everyone getting onto the coach had a bag with them... your mistake was to send him with two bags!
