AIBU - They forgot DS(5) lunch

DS (5) has been going to a holiday club for a couple of days a week. Today they had a day out to an activity centre which was a coach ride away. I dropped DD off this morning with a backpack containing his drink, swimmers and coat etc and he was carrying his packed lunch in a lunch bag.

Somehow the lunch bag got left behind so he didn’t have his lunch with him. I gather they cobbled together a lunch from other children for him but I don’t know whether to be pissed off that they didn’t remind him/check that he had his lunch bag before they left.

I’m about 50:50 on it - I should have probably put it in his bag but also he is only 5 and hasn’t been on a trip very often so I would have thought they might double check.

So who is BU?

YABU - I should have put the lunch bag in his main bag, or
YANBU - they should have double checked/reminded the younger children to make sure they had all their things

Am off to pick it up tomorrow a d interested in the general views before I think how to approach it

They wouldn’t have taken food off other children. Can you imagine that mum on MN?! The staff would have each given one or more of own lunch items, taking account of child’s preferences/ dietary needs. The child would have come first.
OP what did you say in the end?

OP what did you say in the end?
Let's hope op had the grace to leave it at "Thank you"...

MiddlesexGirl · 20/08/2021 23:37

They haven't got time to double check all the lunches. I'm sure they always carry a little bit extra of everything for emergencies.
It seems they had everything covered on this occasion so no issue at all.

MiddlesexGirl · 20/08/2021 23:39

@BoredZelda

It’s not their job to check your child hasn't dropped or left their lunch bag.

It is when the child is only 5.

It really isn't. One bag per child ... that's all they have time to check.
Mamanyt · 21/08/2021 00:44

I think that the lunch bag should have been in the pack. Let's face it, it is asking rather a lot of the staff to check...what? 30 packs? to make sure each and every one had a lunch in it. Which is what they would have to have done.

Bleachmycloths · 21/08/2021 01:45

I’ve taken kids on hundreds of trips. Never seen any with two bags. Lunches are always in backpacks.

Ineke · 21/08/2021 02:45

Let it go.

YABU. It's not their job to check your child hasn't dropped or left their lunch bag.
It quite literally is.

He’s five years old and they’re his childcare provider. It is their responsibility to check his welfare entirely, that includes checking he has his bags.

@Userg1234

Fuck me your a pain...ooos there's two bags for a fucking 5 years old to look after...fuck the people volunteering to look after him, 30+ kids....oh he got something to eat cos you couldn't be fucked to just pack one bag
‘Volunteering to look after him?’

It’s what they’re paid to do. It’s their job to literally look after him and the other children.

OP’s not just left him at a community welfare scheme 😂 she’s paid for childcare!

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 21/08/2021 12:57

Op, invest in a carabiner and stick it to the loop of his bag. In future if anything won’t fit ‘in’ his bag you just clip it on and lock it so he can’t take it off. They’re a godsend, all of my kids bags have them attached. I got a pack of five for about four quid and they’re really small and innocuous when they’re not being used.

Roxy69 · 21/08/2021 13:07

Thankfully they helped him out with his lunch. Your fault entirely and as you say, he's only 5, you are the adult who should think this all through.

Is this REALLY necessary? Have you never made an error Userg134?

Raaraaboonah I am glad that you have learnt a better way to ensure it doesnt happen again form the future. We all make mistakes! hey ho! :)

It was a perfectly reasonable assumption that he had one bag, just like all the other children they had responsibility for.
There was no good reason to have two; the child insisted and his mother indulged him.
