to ask what £300k would buy where you live?

callingtimethistime · 17/08/2021 16:11

And do you like living there? If not, where would you rather be?

WIBU to consider moving there with my DC?

(This is part idle speculation, part deadly serious as going through separation and I've never liked the the town we currently live in. It doesn't have much to offer older DC, plus the secondaries aren't great here. Wondering where we might all have a better life... )

@lking679
I tried that tool but it didn't work for me Sad

PivotPivotPivottt · 17/08/2021 21:13

The most expensive house in my town on Rightmove is £360000 and its a 7 bedroom detached. Second dearest is £259000 and is a 4 bed detached.

AegonT · 17/08/2021 21:16

A 3 bed semi in an ok area of town but not in the catchment of the best senior school. We like where we live. There is a cheaper city nearby but it isn't as nice

aerosocks · 17/08/2021 21:25

A 2-bedroom semi that's a do-er upper, or a 2-bedroom flat.

buckeejit · 17/08/2021 21:26

A beautiful 4/5 bed detached house with nice garden. Small town NI. I love it

Auntieobem · 17/08/2021 21:33

www.tspc.co.uk/4-Bed-Detached-Villa-For-Sale-18-Lawers-Drive-Broughty-Ferry-DD5-3TS this with change. 5 mins from beach, lovely area, great schools.

Mumofsend · 17/08/2021 21:34

My parents have a 2 bed flat here for 350k. You won't get much house for 300k

lovablequalities · 17/08/2021 21:39

A 5 or 6 bed house. Substantial amount of land. Sea views. There's barely anything more expensive than that here.

DrCoconut · 17/08/2021 21:42

£300k would be a palatial house with huge garden here.

Peccary · 17/08/2021 21:53

I think ours would go for about that. 4 bed detached (one room is a box room) garage, drive etc. We're in North East Derbyshire with regular trains to Manchester and the Peak District 10 minutes drive in the other direction. I like it here but the secondary schools aren't great and that might force us to move

riotlady · 17/08/2021 21:53

Nice detached 4 bed. This isn’t actually the town I live in, this a much posher town local to me. Pretty, lots of independent shops and good schools. 20 mins to beach and trains into Newcastle

Newish build on a nice estate- www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/109021742#/?channel=RES_BUY

Wabbabalooba · 17/08/2021 22:04

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/111913964#/?channel=RES_BUY Decent school area, and I love where I live! Moved here from Glasgow for better schools.

SeaShoreGalore · 17/08/2021 22:06

2 bed flat with a garden in a converted house.

3/4 bedroom detached in a really nice area. Good schools, plenty of work available in commuting distance, edge of the peak district, so lots of places to go. Nice pubs/restaurants. Market town.

close to Sheffield and commuting distance of Nottingham/Derby/Manchester

Shelby10 · 17/08/2021 22:57

3/4 bed very decent house in a very good area for good schools and amenities. Near Sheffield

gremlynn · 17/08/2021 22:57

It wouldn't quite buy us our house now, which we paid £170k for 5 years ago. The local house prices have shot up in the last year.
We have a 4 bed semi (3 are generous sized double rooms) with a garage, and it's nearly doubled in price in those 5 years. The two bed apartment next door has just sold for £180k.
£300k would generally get us a decent sized 3 bed semi

ODFOx · 17/08/2021 23:15

60s/70s 3 bed semi, One upstairs bathroom. Off road parking for one car on an estate. Nothing structurally wrong but needing an update.
OFSTED good schools, semi rural. No/poor public transport. East Anglia ish.

Blossomtoes · 17/08/2021 23:19

This. You’d need more money to do it up but the location is wonderful.

There are only two properties listed for $400k where I live: a two-bed flat from the 1970s that needs updating, and a mobile home with three bedrooms. Homes that are halfway decent cost $1m and up, but you need to go closer to $2m for something well-kept.

stopgap · 17/08/2021 23:21

^^I’m in Connecticut, USA.

Thriwit · 17/08/2021 23:29

Thats the budget I have, and I’m struggling. I want a 3-bed within catchment of a decent school, but not a ridiculous commute for either myself or DP, and not too far from where we live now. A year ago we would’ve had loads of choice, but now the market’s dried up. It’s not even so much the price, it’s just there aren’t the properties on the market. Cheshire-ish.

Fab place to live. Edge of Gower. Lovely, diverse, family friendly area, great parks and schools.

Properly flying off the shelves atm.

HintofVintagePink · 17/08/2021 23:54

You probably won’t get a house round here for that, unless a maisonette or 2 bed fixer-upper.

Utterly depressing - especially when I hear about excellent grammar schools and idyllic walks in the north where property is far less than half of what it is here!

Houseofvelour · 18/08/2021 00:08

My house was £295k (we moved into it in 2016) and it's a 5 bed detached house.
I'm in the North West.

Bakewellisntjustacake · 18/08/2021 00:12

5 bed detached house/ pub near me.
