AIBU to find this CF behaviour?

Background: I moved into a brand new house in a new build estate with around 20 houses around 4 years ago. Builders advised that there was ample parking (with overflow) however no allocated parking spaces. So parking is very much first come, first served. However most people have settled into a habit of parking outside their houses.

Today I arrived home from work to discover one of my neighbours has installed a bollard. It's a metal pole complete with key. He/She therefore seems to have "claimed" their parking space 24/7 despite not owning the land!

AIBU to find this entitled CF at its finest?

@StaceysmomandIhavegotitgoinon

Buy a bicycle and chain it to the post!

ooohhh brilliant 🎉

we have a simple easy option winner 🤣🥳

UPDATE!

When I drive home every day I "monitor" the situation with the bollard. Yes, I really am THAT SAD and invested in this nonsense.

Typically, a white car is parked over said bollard (avec private registration plate). Sometimes (rarely), the car is gone and the bollard stands tall - taunting me with the sheer audacity of it's owner.

However, today (DRAMATIC DRUM ROLL PLEASE).........the car was nowhere to be seen and the bollard was DOWN. This means anyone could park in the spot.

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the property manager getting in touch with them?

Did you park in it Op?

shockedNeighbour · 30/08/2021 20:35

@JacquelineCarlyle the thought crossed my mind but I didn't - took the usual spot outside my house!

hahaaa brilliant...

You're a local hero OP... not sad at all.. we need resident like you to keep the good community flow flowing 😂🌸🥳

MadameMaxGoesler · 30/08/2021 23:22

You could install your own bollard six inches in front of theirs...

LookItsMeAgain · 31/08/2021 16:19

If the bollard is down, I'd park in the space...not every day...just frequently enough to mess with whoever installed the bollard...randomly park in various places as they are unmarked and free to be used by any resident.

shockedNeighbour · 02/09/2021 21:20

Bollard back in use! I've emailed Estate Manager to query.

I do like the idea of a daily update (I mean more would be overkill of course) of up or down status of bollard.

BritishSummertime · 02/09/2021 22:02

Does anyone remember the thread one Christmas with theOP who used various Christmas decorations on signs her neighbour had put up? I'm picturing something similar around the pole... maybe army men Morris dancers, barbie pole dancers, King Kong scaling it?!

Total CFery

I’d be raging at the entitlement!

MadeForThis · 02/09/2021 23:02

Bollard showdown

LookItsMeAgain · 03/09/2021 09:10

@shockedNeighbour - I think the next time the bollard is down and there isn't a car already in the space, you'll have to park in it. They are clearly not getting the message that the bollard shouldn't be there in the first place.

Magenta82 · 03/09/2021 12:02

I like the idea of fitting your own bollard next to the CF one.

Me too Grin

I would so want the management company to saw it off!

Me too!

DAILY UPDATE:

ANOTHER car was parked over the bollard spot today so the owner obviously opted not to use it today. He/She was parked in the adjacent spot!

I got response to my email from the estate manager:

"A letter has been issued, but we haven’t had any response to date. Unfortunately, we don’t have powers to remove.

I will issue another letter and hopefully the owner will take heed."

I responded asking what will happen if they choose to ignore the letter.

We live in a similar new estate. The houses had small, open plan front lawns and there was a rule about no hedges or fences. A few people put in little bushes that have now grown into hedges and one has fenced theirs in. So it's not open plan anymore, which is a shame, but we'd have to sue them and no one cba.

AMCoffeePMWine · 03/09/2021 21:20

I don’t know if this is allowed, but next time the spot is open and bollard up, could you park right up against the bollard. It would mean taking up 2 spaces probably, but maybe the CF will get the bloody message.

Binglebong · 03/09/2021 21:22

Hang on, they own the parking spaces. Of course they have power to remove!

k1233 · 03/09/2021 22:42

if they don't have the power to remove then everyone can bags their "own" spaces and maybe even one for a visitor by putting up bollards all over the place.

AdviceOnLife · 03/09/2021 23:11

On the next email I would tell them if they don't have the power to remove you will be ordering and installing your own bollard ASAP. And also letting your neighbours know this information also.
What a silly thing for them to say.

BluebellsGreenbells · 03/09/2021 23:12

Bollard? Get a barrier and bag the lot!

In for a penny …
