AIBU to find this CF behaviour?

Background: I moved into a brand new house in a new build estate with around 20 houses around 4 years ago. Builders advised that there was ample parking (with overflow) however no allocated parking spaces. So parking is very much first come, first served. However most people have settled into a habit of parking outside their houses.

Today I arrived home from work to discover one of my neighbours has installed a bollard. It's a metal pole complete with key. He/She therefore seems to have "claimed" their parking space 24/7 despite not owning the land!

AIBU to find this entitled CF at its finest?

@LookItsMeAgain

You need to start getting a few of these *@shockedNeighbour*:

that is fabulous 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

shockedNeighbour · 23/08/2021 19:55

UPDATE

I've not managed to see who the owner of the bollard is. Stupid work and kids keeping me distracted!

However, one of my neighbours informed me this afternoon that they had identified the culprit! So I've emailed the property management company with this new information.

UPDATE - RESPONSE FROM ESTATE MANAGER

^That was a help, thanks.

I have done a general letter but will speak directly to this owner. Has anyone spoken to the lady regarding this? I’m just wondering what the reasons were for installing and the thought process behind it, apart from commandeering a space for their own use.^

Interesting! I wonder how this will play out?

I think the Manager answered his OWN question ... 🙄

QueenBee52 · 24/08/2021 18:10

Im struggling to see what 'other' reason there would be ... bar commandeering the space for your use only 🤣

shockedNeighbour · 24/08/2021 18:25

I can't think of any justification to be honest.

If, for example, the person is disabled then they could apply to the local authority and get "disabled" painted on that parking spot. Another neighbour on the estate has done this outside their home and no one else parks there.

did you know that however a disabled space is marked, it STILL doesn't reserve it for an individual, it just reserves it for ALL people with disabilities?
Eralos · 24/08/2021 18:54

This is madness

shockedNeighbour · 24/08/2021 18:55

Yes - I appreciate that if I were disabled I could park in my neighbours space. However, given that it's a residential estate with no shops etc in it (just houses and flats) it's unlikely that a random disabled person will use it. Even if they did - there is ample parking so it's not really an issue.

You did great lol 🤣

But even if you were disabled person with a DOB (blue badge) - physically disabled as opposed to having hidden SEN disability for eg- you wouldn't be able to get out of your car to lean down and unlock a bollard before hopping back in your car to park it up when returning and visa versa including bending down to pick it up from the ground (refernece, I am disabled and also have sent medical support letters confirming people meet criteria for a DPB)

If you were the driver for a disabled person, then given it is a quiet residential estate you can just pull up your car in the road outside and pick the person up. It's easier than trying to squish in between small non disabled (wider) car spaces for getting in and out when you need equipment to help you do the standing to car seat transfers

longhours · 24/08/2021 21:42

DPB not DOB! Typing in a tiny box as I had quoted a PP post!
#TeamOP here

shockedNeighbour · 28/08/2021 23:24

Disappointed to report that it is STILL THERE.

Given that the property management company are not in favour of it I'm now wondering what their next move will be (assuming the neighbour is refusing to dismantle it).

Only found this thread today.

I am impressed by you diagram and photo but not your management company

bonfireheart · 28/08/2021 23:53

You would think the company would want this dealing with ASAP to stop other copying the idea.

Kiduknot · 28/08/2021 23:58

The neighbour is having a giraffe…

Zebra bollard has to go.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 29/08/2021 00:08

Maybe ask the company if you can put one up as well then? And get your neighbours to do the same…they will soon act then!

Fight CFery with CFery. Find a friend with a scooter or motor bike to park in there for a while Grin Plenty of apace for them to fit.

"Fight CFery with CFery. Find a friend with a scooter or motor bike to park in there for a while grin Plenty of apace for them to fit."

LOL! I LOVE this idea. Unfortunately I can't think of anyone I know with a moped or motorbike!

Any mumsnetters live in the Glasgow area with a moped/motorbike that fancy some drama by parking there?

OP posts:
BluebellsGreenbells · 29/08/2021 11:07

There must be a local bike club!!

Can you see? Perhaps you could make a giant penis cover for it?

Must include a glow in the dark condom for safety reasons
