AIBU to find this CF behaviour?

Background: I moved into a brand new house in a new build estate with around 20 houses around 4 years ago. Builders advised that there was ample parking (with overflow) however no allocated parking spaces. So parking is very much first come, first served. However most people have settled into a habit of parking outside their houses.

Today I arrived home from work to discover one of my neighbours has installed a bollard. It's a metal pole complete with key. He/She therefore seems to have "claimed" their parking space 24/7 despite not owning the land!

AIBU to find this entitled CF at its finest?

I'm genuinely aghast at the level of entitlement.

Yes it annoys me when my "usual spot" is taken but I'd never think to try to reserve it since it doesn't actually belong to me!

Im aghast for you.. it would be lovely to have appointed spaces for everyone.. but there isn't.. so this person is bang out of order..

It might just get removed if they cannot locate the 'owner' of it.. and when they come screaming about their property being removed.. they can then be 'billed' for its removal 🤣

They'll likely wait until a car is parked in the space and identify them by the car reg lol 🌸

@shockedNeighbour

UPDATE!

Property Manager (of factor company who manage communal space in the estate) has emailed back and informed me that he wishes to "letter them in the first instance" and asked me to provide him with details of the neighbour. Trouble is - I don't know who they are!

I've emailed him a photo and left him to deal with it! Photo attached for your amusement!

When there is a car parked behind there take a photo of the registration The property Manangement firm can then look it up as they may have a legitimate reason to get dvla owner details

Surely it's the house it is outside or though- you can tell them that?

Dangernouse5 · 17/08/2021 17:38

OP you are spoiling us with your most excellent parking diagram and a photo of the naughty Stripey bollard

Yes...

best yet 🎉

shockedNeighbour · 17/08/2021 17:47

@Dangernouse5 LOL! As a regular mumsnetter I know the drill!

@Dangermouse5 it's not immediately obvious - it could be one of 4 immediate possibilities. Good idea about the car registration!

OP, could you edit the diagram so it includes the gnomes? Otherwise, top marks.

FreezerBird · 17/08/2021 18:44

Having seen the photo I'd be parking right up against that, straddling the lines, every time.

Brilliant idea 😃
Looubylou · 17/08/2021 20:48

I can't concentrate on the thread since you mentioned white stones OP. Can't bear the bloody things. I don't have a gnome, but I think I could tolerate those.

shockedNeighbour · 17/08/2021 20:57

@Looubylou they remind me of graveyards. No exactly a look I'd be going for in my front garden!

OP posts:
shockedNeighbour · 17/08/2021 20:57

Not* exactly

That bollard leaves you no choice but to park half over the space! (Great diagrams and photos!)

Totally this! ^^

@shockedNeighbour

how's the covert Investigation going 😳

ApolloandDaphne · 20/08/2021 06:14

That is cheeky for sure. Have you found the culprit yet?

Tlollj · 20/08/2021 06:25

‘Letter them in the first instance’
What fresh Hell is this?
Good diagram op.

LookItsMeAgain · 20/08/2021 08:44

I thought it was closer to the road (to allow the driver the shortest distance to removing the bollard) but it is right in the middle of the parking space like some bizarre Maypole!

See if there is a Morris Dancing club in your locality and ask them to visit the newest attraction in town and dance around it!

(PS - I love the diagram and the photo - Genius!!!!)

ThePoint678 · 20/08/2021 08:53

10 out of 10 for that diagram OP. You’ve put all diagram drawers before you to shame.

Tirediam · 20/08/2021 08:53

Ooo any update ?

HopeHappy · 20/08/2021 09:31

I'd definitely be either doing as a PP suggested and making the most of the now extra wide parking space next to it, or leaving a anonymous note under the cover of darkness attached to the bollard stating that they are not allowed to put up a bollard in a piece of land they don't own and that the management company have been informed.

CFs!

Alternatively, could you gather up all the neighbourhood gnomes, add some ribbons and turn it in to a gnome maypole?!

shockedNeighbour · 21/08/2021 23:15

Loving the gnome maypole suggestions!

I sent the property manager the photo evidence of the pole in situ and have heard nothing back. However he was prompt to reply to my original email. I'll send another asking him to clarify what, if anything, he plans to do.

I can confirm that the pole is still there. It's an eyesore. Unfortunately I'm in Scotland so I don't imagine there are many Morris dancers around!

You need to start getting a few of these @shockedNeighbour:

AIBU to find this CF behaviour?
JacquelineCarlyle · 22/08/2021 20:21

That's so cheeky of them. I'd keep hounding the factor until they sorted it out. I'd also be sorely tempted to park right up against the bollard, sideways across 2 spaces so that they couldn't use it. If it's not addressed, then what's to stop everyone doing it and then there'll be nowhere for anyone / guests to park.

MyrrAgain · 22/08/2021 20:55

Oo there's a bit of space in front of the bollard! Park right in front of it! Or find a smart car to borrow and get right up within 1cm 😂
Then leave it there for a week
