Lil boys wearing tights

Frequently my lil dude is freezing! Why is it ok for lil girls to wear tights and not lil boys? They are not so differenet at this stage, why do they not deserve the equal right to be warm and comfortable? Any thoughts please?

My ds wears tights never even thought about it really just thought oooh he will be cosy.
Soldiers often wear tights under their uniforms and loads of guys that work with my dh wear them for working outdoors.

bekkaboo · 29/11/2007 22:26

that is brilliant idea! ive just bought long johns for my ds as away in jan and didnt want him to be cold (15 mts) god they aren't cheap ill be taking them back tomorrow! Where do you get these ideas from!??!?!?! fanstastic!

blanki · 29/11/2007 22:27

asda, tesco, primark... don't forget to look in the girls section

S1ur · 29/11/2007 22:31

my ds wears his sisters hand me downs, and yep noooo problem cross-dressing at any age

OverMyDeadBody · 29/11/2007 22:32

lol at 'smart tights'

Where to get them? Hmmm I've got a few pairs from charity shops, but TBH have bought the rest from john Lewis or H&M in the sales. They aren't exactly dirt cheap but not that expensive either considering they don't need many pairs.

DS only has the one pair of leggings now, mostly wears them if we're going to be outside for a large part of the day, they where only £3.99 or something...

Look in girl's sections, even for navy/black/grey ones.

QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 29/11/2007 22:33

I put my boys in tights when it is cold. I have bought some nice navy ones in Mothercare.

OverMyDeadBody · 29/11/2007 22:34

On a similar note, I've been thinking of buying DS some knee high socks, old school stylee, as he likes wearing shorts, even in the winter, would this be too cruel or is it still acceptable if not part of a uniform?

(I have visions of him looking all vintage and cute )

barcelonababe · 29/11/2007 22:35

i was today thinking about the same topic today when i was dressing my dd! What would i do if i had a boy?! The answer is clear i would put some winter tights! no prob with that!

blanki · 29/11/2007 22:36

Cheers C, almost no market stalls N of border, esp West coast! But will defo try supermarkets as well as beloved Primark! Feel so much more confident to face my oppositision re lil boys and tights. You are so right, they are lil kids and they all deserve to be warm, regardless of gender.

LOL, I saw the title and that the last person to post was overmydeadbody, so thought this was an anonymouse poster makeing a stand, and clicked on ready to explain how it doesn't make your son gay etc etc and isn't it better to be warm than hung up over stereotypes and lo and behold you all think the same

KTF, where do we make a plea for boy tights in the UK? Esp sunny scotland, we are SO cold!

francagoestohollywood · 29/11/2007 22:48

ds wore tights under his trousers for the first 2 yrs of his life. You can get cold in the buggy. Plus like a stereotypical Italian mummy I like them to be warm

WinkyWinkola · 29/11/2007 23:01

DS is nearly 3. He'll be wearing tights in winter until he says he doesn't want to. I don't like to think of him being cold in draughty trousers.

I never understood the little boys at school having to wear shorts in winter though.. .. DH says he had to and it looks like DS might well have to as well if he gets into the school of our choice. Might find some flesh coloured 40 deniers for him if that happens.. . . .Do you think he would mind?

TootTheAbsoluteLoon · 29/11/2007 23:02

It's quite normal in other parts of Europe.

TootTheAbsoluteLoon · 29/11/2007 23:05

Look! Tights especially for boys!

mybabysinthegarden · 29/11/2007 23:50

dire engines, Kermit? I think that's what I've got under the bonnet of my Hyundai.

Katiekin · 30/11/2007 00:03

My ds wears longjohns and matching thermal white vest from M and S £5 the set in the sale and he loves them. He wants to know why he has to wear trousers on top as he would quite like to go out in just the vest and long johns!

OverMyDeadBody · 30/11/2007 13:57

I've just ordered a pair of those car tights toottheabsoluteloon, cheers for the link!

belgo · 30/11/2007 13:58

I've seen a little boy wearing knitted leg warmers - they looked great on him.

OverMyDeadBody · 30/11/2007 14:05
