The modern Milkman

So I'm still livid about what just happened but I'm not sure if I'm being grumpy and tired or should I genuinely be anger

I recently set up my account with the intention of signing up to the modern milkman for weekly deliveries . I had a holiday coming up so I didn’t place my order with the plan to do it on my return. I liked the fact it was plastic free.

Whilst on holiday I received a call asking me why I hadn’t ordered. I explained I was on holiday and would be doing it when I returned. The caller was very insisted and urged me to complete on the phone however I was driving at the time and eventually got them off the phone .

I was a bit annoyed at what felt like a heavy handed sales call but let it pass.

I returned from holiday and literally 48 hours since the phone call which is tonight at 6.40 in a Saturday evening my doorbell went. We were in the middle of feeding our baby and eating a family dinner so my husband answered the door to find a sales agent asking us to complete our sign up.

My husband explained it wasn’t a good time as we were feeding our baby and the sales person said “So.. it doesn’t take two of you to feed a baby” I am absolutely livid. Firstly I’m livid that anyone has a right to come to my front door and say a comment like that with zero knowledge of why two of us might be feeding a baby.

Secondly I’m annoyed that something I genuinely wanted to use is now something I won’t go near.

Is this the way of sales now? Or have I a right to feel a bit harassed ?

I've never heard of the "Modern Milkman", but I'd be cancelling everything, telling any more sales people to go fuck themselves, and buying my milk in Tesco like any normal person!

I hadn't either before I got a leaflet . It seemed handy as baby will move onto milk soon and having it delivered felt convenient plus the plastic free element felt good. I will absolutely now be sticking with getting it myself

I would email telling them why you're not ordering from them after all

ceecee32 · 14/08/2021 19:19

I set up the modern milkman for my mum who is unable to leave the house.
Deliveries have been paused for about 4 weeks as she went into respite care. No phone calls received, no contact from them at all.
I would be furious if someone had hassled her in this way and I would be pointing out to them that they had lost a customer because of it.

BarryTheKestrel · 14/08/2021 19:20

I'd be cancelling and making it clear on social media why you aren't ordering from them. Horrendously pushy sales technique.

PieonaBarm · 14/08/2021 19:20

You'll have local milkmen too, ask on a local Facebook page. The Modern Milkman who covers our estate has lost all his customers due to him screeching round in first with his radio blaring at 4am, they've all gone to a local guy. Sadly we don't drink enough milk to use a milkman but if we did I would go local!

recreationalcalpol · 14/08/2021 19:21

Try milk and more? They deliver my milk 3 times a week in glass bottles. Fully reliable, all sorted on the app. They saved us during the first lockdown as they also deliver some groceries.

Kiitos · 14/08/2021 19:21

Someone from there came to my door a few months ago. Using high pressure sales tactics to make me sign up there and then, saying there was an offer but only if I signed up there and then. I don’t need milk delivering, especially at twice the price of the milk from the co-op 60 seconds walk away. But I thought even if I’d been interested the sales tactic would have put me off.

Oh thank you I've looked them up and they deliver here to ! I will try them :)

are they the same as milk and more, who've had a lot of complaints about being online only now.
lots of older people used to use them, but don't want/can't do online ordering/paying.
there are still independent milk deliveries in some areas.
i had to literally run after one, to get the details for my neighbour.
dougie's dairy, he still accepts cheques, and when he saw that she was disabled offered to pick anything else up from shops up the road. he can also do bread butter cheese potatoes etc from his own stock.
i asked for his website, he didn;t have one, said too busy delivering, it's just him and a helper.
neighbour is pleased. gets milk on monday and friday plus bread.

tyhog · 14/08/2021 19:41

Ok so I'm glad I'm not just being grumpy.

I've sent an email to them to complain and obviously won't be placing an order .

We only used them once. Awful restricted method of ordering, veg wasn't fresh and almost impossible to cancel.

TorySteller · 14/08/2021 20:44

That’s not good, definitely complain!

I must say we’ve been using them for a few months with no issue. I think it’s a great service and their juices are delicious.

CookieMumsters · 14/08/2021 21:04

Sounds like a terrible experience. You should definitely let them know.

I've been using them for about 6 months, and had none of the issues you mention.

Ljc1985 · 26/08/2021 07:39

So just to update. I tried to complain about what happened. Utterly shambolic. It's been ongoing for two weeks now . Initially took 6 days for them to respond ... I'm yet to get any form of apology which essentially is all I wanted and a bit of reassurance they might train their staff to not speak to people like they did. Today's email has made me laugh the most.. email chain of 5 emails and the latest one asks for my email address so they can look into my complaint...

Cookerhood · 26/08/2021 07:44

Don't use milk & more, they are terrible. Unreliable, customer service inaccessible & in the summer the milk goes off very quickly.

alwaystrying1234 · 26/08/2021 07:47

I had them at my door a few weeks ago, they were very insistent I signed up right there and then and placed a weekly order. I had to be extremely firm with them. Since then I've had a few phone calls which I've let go to voicemail telling me to place an order. Just for this reason alone I will not be using them.

RainbowBriteUk · 26/08/2021 07:53

Don't use McQueens neither. Incredibly pushy. They came round the area knocking on doors signing people up for a free trial. It turned out not to be free and I started getting a bottle a week on my doorstep and daily phonecalls and numerous texts a day telling me to sign into an account to pay. It was a nightmare to cancel something I hadn't signed up to in the first place. Really terrible service and the milk came in plastic bottles.

whiteroseredrose · 26/08/2021 08:05

My service from Modern Milkman has been good so far. I cancelled when they switched Oat milk suppliers for a bit and switched to Creamline. They were fine too but didn't have the recyclable washing up liquid etc that I liked from MM.

Talipesmum · 26/08/2021 08:53

They sound bonkers!
I’ve been using milk and more for over a year now. They’ve been great, the app is fine, and they deliver v early so it’s always there. We have a cool box to keep it cold on sunny mornings. Never had a problem with it not keeping fresh, even if I’ve over ordered and end up inadvertently stock piling.

Mountainpika · 26/08/2021 09:01

We've had Milk and More for years. Only two occasions in all those years when the milk didn't arrive - but the roads were blocked with snow and ice so quite understandable. Order other odds and ends from them as well when needed.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/08/2021 09:01

Re Milk and More, I’ve used them for years, have hardly ever had a problem except early in the first lockdown, when zillions of people were signing up and I had to wait to log in.

Can order or cancel the evening before, and they will bring a lot of stuff besides milk. Cancelling for holidays or the odd night away is very easy.

Deliveries are always in the small hours - I’ve never had milk go off.

It’s more expensive, but one less thing to have to cart back from the shops, and we still have ours in glass bottles, so no plastic.

HarrietsChariot · 26/08/2021 09:31

Don't use Milk & More, terrible service.

VestaTilley · 26/08/2021 09:59

Email them telling them why you won’t be giving them your custom.

KingdomScrolls · 26/08/2021 10:21

We use milk and more, have done for years. The app is easy to use, pausing for holiday etc very simple as is adding extra bits for delivery. They were a life saver in first lock down when we had to isolate and couldn't get a supermarket delivery
