1996: The Greatest Hits is on Channel 5 right now. Bopping round the living room to Children...

Yes is an absolute classic, Bernard has said it’s his favourite of all the songs he has ever written and the absolutely best version is the live one on Jools Holland’s show. David’s voice is amazing and Bernard goes completely crazy on his beloved Gibson 355.

Enjoy :

Top 3 on my fuck you list. Bloody brilliant song.

Love it, have it in my running playlist, fantastic!

QueenBee52 · 13/08/2021 23:22

@TheWholeJingbang

It’s great

He’s Ghanaian and wrote it about the experience of being gay in that time/culture

It’s amazing and for some reason I always twin it with Never Met A Girl Like You Before by Edwin Collins

1995 at its best!

I LOVE that song 🎉
YABU but only because this song pips it to the post.
This is what I came to post. Amazing singer.

@CrazyOldBagLady

It is a great song. They were one hit wonders as far as I recall?
Noooo….
AllYouNeedisCash · 13/08/2021 23:34

Love this song! It’s really stood the test of time. Watching that Jools Holland clip sends me back to all the crushes I had on skinny guitar playing indie boys and Bernard was one of them, though he couldn’t compete with the God of them all, John Squire. God, I miss those days.

CheezerGoode · 13/08/2021 23:34

Hell yeah!

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 13/08/2021 23:37

It's a song I never ever ever ever get bored of screaming singing along to in the car.

Heyha · 13/08/2021 23:42

Love it BUT to my shame I seem to remember it being the last track on one of the Now! Albums and I never used to listen to it at the time Blush clearly my taste has developed since...

Mandalay246 · 13/08/2021 23:44

I've never heard it before. Just had a listen, it's fantastic.

I've never heard it before. Just had a listen, totally underwhelmed.

On another musical note, given your username have you heard. "Hamilton and me" on radio 4/BBC sounds this week. V v good!

Here's McAlmont himself to give you all a singing lesson - think I am a bit beyond help though :-D

PresidentJoey · 13/08/2021 23:54

What about poor CeeLo Green and his Fuck You song? Grin

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 13/08/2021 23:54

And if you haven't heard him singing Misty Blue you really need to...

Happyface120 · 13/08/2021 23:55

@PresidentJoey obviously it doesn't come anywhere close...

ladygracie · 13/08/2021 23:58

LOVE this song. Definitely one of my favourites!

funnelfanjo · 14/08/2021 00:01

YY @AlbertBridge It’s a great song as far as it goes, but It feels half written. Verse, chorus. Repeat. Noodle away. End.

10/10 for sentiment but I prefer Falling tbh. Saw them live around that time and a wonderful combination of perfect voice and guitar.

ScienceSensibility · 14/08/2021 00:10

David McAlmont is an outstanding singer. I’ve seen a few of his solo gigs and his voice is mesmerising.

YANBU at all, OP. It is a belting song, one of the few bright sparks of the 90s, which was the worst decade ever for music. But that’s a whole other thread...

PotteryLady · 14/08/2021 00:16

Love it - one of my favourites!
