Soooo pleased about this thread. Feel a bit beaten up from work today and the thought of this song has given me a boost. I bloody love it and thought it was just me.

Cheers OP!

I've always loved it too! Didn't know it was widely loved, though. Or perhaps it isn't and ALL of its fans are on this thread 😀.

I thought it was my secret best song too.

ThisIsTrifficult · 13/08/2021 22:42

This song has seen me through all breakups since the mid 90's. Thank you M&B!

yourestandingonmyneck · 13/08/2021 22:43

Great song. I've always had a real soft spot for it.

I had always assumed they were just one hit wonders and never really thought much more about it. The singer (McAlmont?) has such a distinctive voice I just assumed if they'd done anything else I would have recognised it. But having googled just now, it appears Butler is Bernard Butler of Suede fame?

I'm fairly sure I didn't know that.

I had strong memories of a solo single by Bernard Butler. Couldn't remember anything of the song but the video was so clear in my mind (him lying on middle of road), just YouTube'd it, the song is called Stay and I quite like it too.

I also very much liked Suede.

Don't know anything about the McAlmont guy though 🤷‍♀️

I love it but like pp I didn't realise it was so popular. Going to have a listen again tomorrow

Music Sounds Better With You is another favourite (completely different genre obviously) that reminds me on being 18 in Ibiza. I think that one is popular again?

Oblomov21 · 13/08/2021 22:50

One of my favourites.

childcarevouchersargh · 13/08/2021 22:50

@adawong

One of the best songs of the 90s That is a pretty low bar.
What? Are you dead inside? Grin
MissBridgetJones · 13/08/2021 22:51

Absolute Banger. Must be played very loudly and must be sung along to. Can honestly say I have made some of the best decisions of
My life after belting it out.

stitchy · 13/08/2021 22:53

Indisputably.

You Do from the same album equals it in a different way - it kills me every time

Best song ever.

TheWholeJingbang · 13/08/2021 22:59

It’s great

He’s Ghanaian and wrote it about the experience of being gay in that time/culture

It’s amazing and for some reason I always twin it with Never Met A Girl Like You Before by Edwin Collins

1995 at its best!

CoNiOff · 13/08/2021 23:00

Amazing song, lyrics etc.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2021 23:10

What's the Excuse This Time? is a brilliant track from the album too.

TigerBreath · 13/08/2021 23:11

I love it. Got me through a long illness and recovery and realising that some friends are just for the easy times. And well yes I do feel well enough to tell you what you can do with what you've got to offer. AngryGrin
