Yes by Merry Clayton
Now that is a belter

Mybalconyiscracking · 13/08/2021 21:23

Good song, not heard it before!

MsVestibule · 13/08/2021 21:23

I've always loved it too! Didn't know it was widely loved, though. Or perhaps it isn't and ALL of its fans are on this thread 😀.

Divebar2021 · 13/08/2021 21:24

It’s a great song and in my head I link it with “ Never known a girl like you before” by Edwin Collins which I also had and is a classic IMO

Scautish · 13/08/2021 21:24

Definitely. I saw them live in a small pub and when I was going to the loo I passed Bernard Butler and drunk ranted at him about how “fucking wonderful” his song was. He looked terrified and I don’t blame him.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 13/08/2021 21:24

YABU but only because this song pips it to the post.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 13/08/2021 21:24

Yanbu in that I agree and it is in one of my Top 10 of all time.

But Yabu to put it in AIBU. Not every fucking question on Mumsnet has to be framed for AIBU.

thecognoscenti · 13/08/2021 21:25

It's a banger. I love the 'I'm better without you' sentiment.

1AngelicFruitCake · 13/08/2021 21:25

Yes! The singing is amazing contrasted with the instruments.

thecognoscenti · 13/08/2021 21:25

@adawong

One of the best songs of the 90s That is a pretty low bar.
What? The '90s was one of the best decades for music EVER.
Twatling · 13/08/2021 21:26

One of the best songs of all time OP

2mutsandsomebabies · 13/08/2021 21:28

Love this song Grin I feel well enough to tell you what you can do, with what you've got to offer!

TracyLords · 13/08/2021 21:29

It was my granny’s favourite song!

rockingthelook · 13/08/2021 21:29

Just epic, bloody masterpiece!

DrMaryMalone · 13/08/2021 21:29

Agreed! I've had to drive a lot for work lately and have made an epic 90s bangers playlist which includes this. I have also rediscovered Independent Love Song by Scarlet and realised I did not understand the lyrics as an 11 year old!

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 13/08/2021 21:30

It's impossible to listen to it and not feel taller, stronger, better. The whole album is brilliant, but that song by itself is an absolute classic.

Roominmyhouse · 13/08/2021 21:32

It’s an absolute classic and I love it. Crank it up and sing your heart out!

SerenShine · 13/08/2021 21:32

A bloody brilliant song 🎵 👏 ❤

adawong · 13/08/2021 21:32

What? The '90s was one of the best decades for music
After the 70's 80's 60's and the 50's but better than the 00's 10's granted Grin

TheMoth · 13/08/2021 21:33

I tend to feel the music more than lyrics and it just soars. I get the same thing from Space Oddity too.

iamaMused · 13/08/2021 21:34

I love it too, it was my go to song in the 90's after my ex husband ceremonially dumped me after 14 months of marriage.... although he never wanted to be reunited after about 3 months he visited me and wanted to see that I was ok to appease his guilt and the lyrics from this song totally paralleled what happened.

Misbeehived · 13/08/2021 21:34

LOVE

Footballfrenzy2021 · 13/08/2021 21:35

@sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea I’ve got it playing & im 6ft tall because that’s how it makes me feel. Loud & bloody alright

dworky · 13/08/2021 21:37

Absolutely but would be even better with another verse.

Badhead · 13/08/2021 21:38

Brilliant song.
Absolute Radio 90's play it quite a lot, so the volume always goes up in the car.
