It's worrying that it isn't seen as such.

OP posts:

@Blossomtoes

It's because he's a white man. And terrorists are brown in the uk

Just stop it. N Irish terrorists aren’t brown. This is bad enough without conflating it with race. Terrorists tend to claim responsibility for their attacks quite quickly.

Agree with you about the race but but I do think some people still have an unconscious bias when initially making judgements on terrorism.

However he could hardly claim responsibility for his act - he shot himself fatally.

I know, that was basically the point I was making. Any news on non terrorists using bombs yet?

itsgettingwierd · 14/08/2021 20:08

Well, to be fair, what else would a bomb be?

So if this guy bombed his mums house or Himself on her property they would have considered terrorism straightway?

Unlikely! Again not even when they knew of his incels connections.

itsgettingwierd · 14/08/2021 20:09

@Blossomtoes

Which non terrorists use bombs?
The ones that did the standings in London the past few years.

Tower bridge and the market spring to mind.

itsgettingwierd · 14/08/2021 20:10

The guy who stabbed the lawyer who was working to rehabilitate terror inmates.

Blossomtoes · 14/08/2021 20:11

I think most, if not all, bomb attacks would lead to terrorism as the first consideration. I can’t think of any bomb attack in my lifetime carried out by anyone other than terrorists.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 14/08/2021 20:12

@itsgettingwierd

The guy who stabbed the lawyer who was working to rehabilitate terror inmates.
That was terrorism related and he was wearing a dummy device. The PP was asking for examples where non-terrorists have used bombs?
toocold54 · 14/08/2021 20:18

Which non terrorists use bombs?

I’ve just finished a Netflix series about someone strapping a bomb collar to someone in the US and that wasn’t classed as terrorism.

Terrorists use bombs to kill as many people as they can quickly but they also use guns and knifes but bombs just do it quickest.
The non terrorists who don’t use bombs only do it as they don’t want to die themselves and want the ‘glory’ of what they’ve done.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 14/08/2021 20:21

Well they had bombs at Columbine, they just failed to detonate.

Unless of course you think they were terrorists, but the only suggested ideology is that they too are incels...

Blossomtoes · 14/08/2021 20:21

Was this Netflix series a documentary? And what were the bombers attempting to achieve?

toocold54 · 14/08/2021 20:27

Yes it was a documentary and I don’t think they found out for certain what the end goal was as they were all blaming each other and then one died of natural causes so they blamed everything on him and said he made them do it basically.

itsgettingwierd · 14/08/2021 20:29

Oh I see ginger I misunderstood! I thought she said all terrorists used bombs and asked for examples of terrorists who didn't

I thought “Which non terrorists use bombs?” was pretty unambiguous.

@Blossomtoes. It was about Brian Wells. It was a very strange case.

Did you mean to be so rude?

I misread. I'm dyslexic. I admitted to misreading.

Really was there any need to bring it back up to have another dig?

Says more about you than me tbh

Sorry, I honestly didn’t mean to be rude. I have no filter. 🤷‍♀️
itsgettingwierd · 14/08/2021 20:47

No worries!

Blossomtoes · 14/08/2021 20:48

Thank you 😊

toocold54 · 14/08/2021 20:52

It was about Brian Wells.

Thank you! My brain isn’t working today and I couldn’t remember his name or the documentary name.

toocold54 · 14/08/2021 20:59

There’s been a few times people have used bombs in the US but aren’t classed as terrorists.
I can’t think of any in the UK though but we don’t have that many bombings here.

The Manchester bombings. The surviving defendant was convicted of murders, not of terrorist offences.
toocold54 · 14/08/2021 21:09

Yes you are right.

But I remember when it was happening they said there’s been a terrorist attack in the arena not long after it happened and this time not long after the police arrived they said it wasn’t a terrorist attack.
You would think it would take a few days to work out the motive etc and then decide whether it’s terrorism or not.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 14/08/2021 21:13

What the CPS choose to advance as the offence will be lead by the chances of conviction for that offence. If the threshold for terror offences is higher than conspiracy to murder but the conspiracy charge would still land a significant jail term and be more likely to stick then they’ll go for that. Hence the discussions last week about the mother and partner convicted of manslaughter for the death of a toddler - because it wasn’t possible to say which of them was responsible then a murder charge was unlikely to be successful but the lower threshold of manslaughter would.

For whoever is inclined or interested, Elliot Rodger's manifesto is available online:
www.documentcloud.org/documents/1173808-elliot-rodger-manifesto.html

I'm surprised some ppl did not hear before about incels, MIGTOW, red pill movement etc.
The 2014 Isla Vista massacre had a huge coverage, because Elliot was from an affluent background: he was the son of Peter Rodger, a British photographer and film maker who moved his family to USA to work in Hollywood.
His YouTube channel with all the videos he posted was available for a long time, but I think it's deleted now. I'm sure the videos are still reposted by other channels.
There are also analysis videos available, these are just 2 of them:
