Rewards for A level results

My son got his a level results yesterday (got an a, b & c) and I gave him a heartfelt, meaningful gift that cost about £50. He said “so am I not getting three grand?”. I laughed as I thought he was joking but he says that everyone he knows gets this. I didn’t know what to say! I was stunned that this is a thing (£3k is an awful lot of money in my opinion), shocked that he could be so rude, and absolutely gutted that my gift had gone down like a lead balloon. I’d planned a household party for us all (plus their partners) on Friday night with takeaway pizza (this will cost around £150) and a family party on Saturday which I’ve cost caterers for (costing around £300).
Would you give your child £3k just for finishing their a levels?

This year mine got £100 cash in a well done card. (And obligatory balloon) Can’t remember what we did for his sibling but probably similar. He seems happy and surprised with the cash. Knows we have lots of expense with his uni.

I don't get this reward thing. Surely their reward is that they will do better in life for getting good results? It's for them, not their parents - or should be anyway.
The parents are giving the money...they aren't getting the reward.

Why do you all care so much? We give our kids a financial well done so they can treat themselves to something the way I treat myself with a job well done. Such a load of lemon sucking people on here.

I bought him a takeaway (his choice he didn’t want a meal out). He doesn’t need any more reward than getting into Uni on the course he wants.

£3k? How would that even be broken down..
2k/ A
750 / b
250 / c?

Not a chance is that what happens!

I think (10 years ago) I got £100/A, £50/B, and £20/C and that was definitely not the norm, I was very lucky! I think my parents had bribed my brother with these amounts a few years before and couldn’t not do it for me.

Bloody hell. Is life a struggle for you? Becuae they really isn’t anything to “get”

It’s an incentive

I did outstandingly well at work.
I was going to progress as a result - so in your eyes that was sufficient
In addition they gave me a nice monetary bonus. As is often the case in the workplace In some industries.
