Hair chopped off and I'm upset.

Disclaimer. I know I should have spoken up when sitting watching my hair being cut off but I was in shock and even by that time it would have been too late, it had been cut.

My regular hairdresser has relocated so I had to find somewhere new. I saw someone looking for models, all fully supervised so I thought I'd go for it. Long hair down my back. Asked for a bit below my shoulders with some shape. What I got was midway between my shoulders and chin, no shape. I hate it. My face is fatter than it should be and longer hair let me hide a bit. Now I can't. The supervisor came and kept chopping more away too. I can't look at myself in the mirror. I keep telling myself it will grow. I think it may be uneven too, but I can't look long enough to know for sure.

Thanks all. I spoke to the manager who said the trainee and her supervisor had both agreed that it was cut shorter than I asked for. She said that I can go in so the supervisor can look at it and see if there is anything they can do, but my trust issues fall squarely on the supervisor who didn't supervise, did some of the snipping herself and signed it off as done, so I don't want to see her, nor do I trust her.
Even my trusted GHDs can't get my hair to flick under or even stay straight.

@KidneyBeans

I’ve specifically said I didn’t know if it was true, have just heard it suggested. My opening sentence was literally ‘I don’t know if this is true.’ If you search it on google it’s quite a common suggestion as it apparently strengthens hair.

Kanaloa · 12/08/2021 22:48

Sorry ‘I don’t know if this actually works.’ Obviously I’m not telling op it will absolutely make her hair grow faster, it was just a suggestion.

mumsymum25 · 12/08/2021 23:06

Assuming the person who cut your hair was training? Training or not, not sure how you asking for your hair to be cut a couple of inches below the shoulders ends up being chopped off a couple of inches above.

Shoulder length is fairly ambiguous. To me, shoulder length means just touching the shoulders / a few inches longer, but to others it means bottom of shoulder blades, sometimes mid shoulder blades etc., was you specific and show the hairdresser exactly which length you wanted?

I personally wouldn’t go to a trainee hairdresser for this very reason. The hair has already been chopped off, it’s not like you can stick it back on so all you can do now if take it as a lesson learnt I suppose.

mumsymum25 · 12/08/2021 23:09

Regardless of one’s perception of shoulder length though, how does cut a couple of inches below end up as chopped a couple of inches above?

Birdcloud · 12/08/2021 23:21

Just keep in mind half an inch a month! Feeling for you x

Rollintodarkness · 12/08/2021 23:35

Yeah I said just below my shoulders, meaning just below, not to the bottom of the shoulder blade, but also not above my shoulder. I also showed her where with my finger and she drew with her finger against my back and we agreed on a length....which I didn't get

You make me so grateful for my fab hairdresser who is also a friend. Ive shoulder length hair hut she always cuts it oerfectly,i never have to tell her how much she just knows,

These ones do not sound good, a good hairdresser knows exactly what to do,these dont,

mumsymum25 · 13/08/2021 00:12

@Rollintodarkness in that case, the hairdresser was just being an arsehole and unfortunately you was the one sat in the chair. It’s happened to a lot of us at some point or other. Happened to me during my last haircut but I didn’t realise until after.

mumsymum25 · 13/08/2021 00:13

@Rollintodarkness chin up x

prawntoastie · 13/08/2021 00:45

I always remember this “Sabrina the teenage witch episode “ when Jenny has the same issue and Sabrina tells her HAIR GROWS

take biotin, silica and your hair will grow
Had the same issue as you in the past so feel your pain but hair does grow!!

MakeMathsFun · 13/08/2021 01:50

It will grow back.

Ddot · 13/08/2021 05:47

A lot of hairdressers dont listen or are totally rubbish. After lockdown I've heard of so many BAD hair cuts, including mine. My friend asked for a deep fringe, ended up looking like dumb and dumber. It was so deep it looked like a bowl had been plonked on her head. Mine I asked for the layers to start at my jaw so when dry would be at my cheek bone. Guess what happened she got have the message and cut them at my cheekbone. When dry I looked like a telly tubby it stud up all by it's self. Still not to my jaw 8months later but almost. If it won't curl under then scrunch it and let it do its thing, sometimes it's better to let it be free and messy.

Wexone · 13/08/2021 08:14

For anyone who says that they have shite hair or doesn't grow etc, i would strongly recommend Viviscal tablets, you need to take them for at least 6 months to see a difference. I have very long thick hair but lost a lot of hair due to stress, once it started growing back it was baby fine hair and was like a halo on my head. Started taking these tablets after trying everything else and can now really see a huge difference now. They are expensive but defo recommend them

Darlingx · 13/08/2021 09:48

I think its the losing of long hair that bothers you. You could clip in hair extensions until it grows out? This is what actresses do that chop change damage their hair .

newmummy16 · 13/08/2021 09:50

Insist on some hair extensions 😳

Macieb · 13/08/2021 11:24

Oh no! I've did that..Sat there quietly, watching as they hacked my hair off. Screaming inside. Ended up with a mullet and had an engagement party that evening. Left in floods of tears and my sister had to call.ahead to my hubby to prepare him for the horror. I think more to make sure he didn't do what she did and ask wtf happened to my hair!

It's crazy that we will sit there silent knowing its a fecking mess.

Hopefully it grows, quickly for you.

chalamet · 13/08/2021 11:47

I will only go to one hairdresser who manages to make my hair feel amazingly soft and brand new without it looking like I’ve had any length taken off. My hair is waist length when it’s shortest and at my hips when it’s longest. I’m actually not even sure I like it that much anymore and would love a proper blunt bob that falls between my chin and my shoulders but I will probably never take the plunge.

chalamet · 13/08/2021 11:47

I should say I’m cheap and actually have cut my own hair for about a year!

I hope you either get used to your new style or the salon manage to fix it for you.

Note to self…. DON’T be a hair model as the stylist wants a particular style/cut to practice on it’s just not worth it.

Rollintodarkness · 13/08/2021 17:17

Thanks all. I think I'd be a little less bothered if the cut was good. It is definitely longer one side than the other. Have been invited back for them to fix, but I asked when (and said I don't want the girl's supervisor doing it) and I haven't had a reply. The length is less than ideal but the cut is awful and I can't hide it without putting my hair up and looking like a school girl.

Wish I could look that young

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 14/08/2021 21:16

I agree - but would say two years for those of us with long hair!
