I’ll go first:

Losing a pet is not the same as losing a child.

Now your turn!

Agree with others who have said that this post is full of controversial opinions. I think one of the problems is that people with the most selfish or narrow-minded opinions are often baffled as to why those opinions are controversial.

The most bafflingly controversial thread I remember is the original "how often do you wash your towels" thread. Whether you wash them daily or yearly, I struggle to understand how someone can gave such strongly-held beliefs on how frequently someone else does something that doesn't impact anyone else.

It's normal for men in their 50s to be attracted to women in their 20s.

merrymelody · 08/08/2021 07:22

'extramarital sex' isn't an opinion.

I think some students have failed to understand the assignment.

Yup. I got sidetracked.Wink

'Childfree by choice'
I've then been asked why I'm on Mumsnet. And told I'll change my mind. Hmm

Saying that someone is obese is apparently fat shaming. It's not, it's factual.

Plastic grass- I'm afraid I've pulled people up on this on here because I think it's awful stuff.

Overpopulation is a major factor in climate change. I don't care particularly if people have multiple children, but people should at least own their choices.

DeathStare
When I joined MN I was amazed to learn that having a toilet brush is apparently grim and highly controversial.

My MIL buys clothes for my baby
My MIL wants to hold my baby
Other family members want to hold my baby

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 08/08/2021 09:14

Mine will probably get deleted but hey I’ll go for it. Any post that doesn’t put trans people in the best light possible is likely to start a bunfight. No-one is allowed to have any sort of negative opinion whatsoever.

RedToothBrush · 08/08/2021 09:15

Poster: my child misbehaves and doesn't respect me. Help me!

Mn: Thats cos you spoil them and don't act like a parent who says no occasionally.

Poster: But they are the nicest child ever and never would do anything bad, don't be nasty about them

Mn: facepalm

'Mrs' is not a protected title and a woman who has never been married can use it if she wants.

This one's actually a fact, not an opinion, but it leaves some people absolutely furious.

LostThings · 08/08/2021 09:29

Early Years staff deserve respect and a lot more money for the job they do.

WomanStanleyWoman · 08/08/2021 10:21

If your name is Jennifer (for example), it’s okay to correct people each and every time they try to call you Jenny or Jen. You don’t have to ‘accept that people always shorten names’.

I think these are similar to the one I mentioned above (about wanting to be address as your own name rather than "Mrs Husband's first Name Husband's Last Name".

It really isn't a controversial thing to want people to address you with your actual name. Yet it gets people people frothing.

NeverTalkToStrangers · 08/08/2021 13:43

Oh I’ve got one which genuinely fits the OP’s brief.

“The withdrawal method of contraception is a method of contraception (just not a very reliable one).”

That Tony Blair isn’t an evil scheming war criminal

StoneofDestiny · 08/08/2021 19:27

I've never heard of Elf on a Shelf, Christmas Eve Boxes or Gender Reveal events; my mind is boggling at the last one, what do you do - show your 'bits'?

I heard of them all on Mumsnet 😂. But I'm sure it won't be long before someone comes up with a 'showing your bits party' idea.

Plumtree391 · 08/08/2021 20:10

I have since found out what the last one means, StoneofDestiny, and it is quite harmless. Elf on a Shelf, however, sounds sinister! I hope I don't meet one.

Some schools & teachers shaft many kids with special needs and continually lie to the parents ‘they’re fine’ (this can mean anything except they haven’t committed suicide yet /killed anyone in class. If it gets THAT BAD we will let ya know.)

WindyWindsor · 08/08/2021 22:58

@QuentinBunbury

Using shower gel to wash your vulva
I'm halfway through reading these but this one made my vulva recoil in horror.

Do you by any chance work for Canesten?

KnottyKnitting · 09/08/2021 00:18

No is not a complete sentence 😁
