Dog in Hairdressers

At the hairdressers I go to the owner's dog is always there, when I go normally it's asleep but on one or two occasions my hairdresser has had to step around the dog and get it to move as it was lying right next to us. I know I don't have to go there to get my hair done but apart from the dog I have no problems with the place and the service. For context the dog belongs to the owner of the salon who lives upstairs. Would you be happy with this?

@billiebeeme

No as I'm allergic and it's quite unprofessional too.
A dog in the room doesn't affect a hairdresser's ability to do their job, unless it's getting in the way. OP has said it's mostly asleep.

@Depechemodebiggestfan

I had a minor procedure done in hospital years ago and the person who performed it ( mole removal) had a large guide dog with her. The dog was lying under me while she was cutting my skin! I’m not sure whether she was deaf etc but I did find a bit strange- it did not seem hygienic at all- it was a theatre after all and yes I must add that particular site got infected straight away so I needed antibiotics. I’m not saying it was from the dog being there but I had loads of moles done and this was the one it got badly infected.
I don't even know where to begin with this! ^ Shock

The person performing a surgical procedure on you, had a GUIDE DOG?

WTAF? Confused

Depechemodebiggestfan · 07/08/2021 12:36

@AngryWhompingWillow
Yep. I was shocked too but I said nothing. The lady who performed the surgery had enormous glasses on, I was thinking can she actually see what is she doing?
The rest of the staff acted perfectly normal so I was scared to ask about the dog!

Depechemodebiggestfan · 07/08/2021 12:38

@AngryWhompingWillowand this was NHS hospital.

No I wouldn't use a salon where dogs are laying around since there's no way of knowing if the owner is keeping on top of parasite control etc. I don't think most people realise just how many zoonotic diseases dogs carry. Lots of salons offer beauty treatments as well so yes the environment should be as sterile as possible, especially now.
I left my old salon after the owner got a bulldog puppy, it was badly behaved and smelled awful.

Yes, I don't know how many there are, actually. How many are there, @Toty?

tttigress · 07/08/2021 13:09

Having a cute dog seems to be obligatory these days if you are a hairdresser!

TheFoundations · 07/08/2021 13:10

Aren't there laws to make sure that nobody is offering treatments in a dangerous environment?

olidora63 · 07/08/2021 13:15

If you don’t like dogs go to different hairdresser

Hopeisnotastrategy · 07/08/2021 13:16

@MidnightHangingTree

I would love a dog at the hairdressers. Dogs make every place better IMO.
This.
nancy75 · 07/08/2021 13:17

@MauveMagnolia

My hairdressers lets clients bring their dogs in -don't most?
It would never, in a million years occur to me that a dog would be allowed in a hairdressers
Toty · 07/08/2021 13:23

@TheFoundations

Well if you want an a-z Google is your friend but roughly 15-20 common zoonoses, many more not so common.

RainingChampions · 07/08/2021 14:52

I'd change hairdressers - I'm allergic to dogs. But I also wouldn't be impressed with a business that had a dog lounging all over the floor, it just looks unprofessional and sloppy.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 07/08/2021 15:08

I went to a hairdresser once whose dog constantly kept trying to jump up at me and all she kept saying was oh she’s so friendly, everyone loves her. Never went back, not just due to the dog but she ruined my hair as well

Babybabybabyooooh · 07/08/2021 15:19

The salon I go to often has two dogs, both the owners, there!
They will jump on your lap and go to sleep if you let them, if you’re not a fan of dogs they give you a wide berth and go to someone who is, it’s never bothered me.

davidstuart · 07/08/2021 15:41

Im the same im allergic to many humans and I take my dog to my hairdressers, I think non dog lovers should be tied up outside and muzzled as they talk a load of rubbish

davidstuart · 07/08/2021 15:44

good im sure the owner is more than happy you went elsewhere, anyone that doesnt like dogs is usually a nasty selfish person so im glad you go elsewhere

davidstuart · 07/08/2021 15:46

and humans arnt full of disease yer right try the current virus, flu etc, as a dog lover im setting up a 10 million pound holiday park for humans and hounds, inc swimming with your dog, cinema, supermarket, hairdressers etc all do friendly and thankfully you wont be coming

davidstuart · 07/08/2021 15:47

disagree dogs are much nicer than humans and you sound snobby

davidstuart · 07/08/2021 15:48

good

thecatsabsentcojones · 07/08/2021 15:48

That’d be a winner for me. I love dogs and the hairdresser is really boring.

Either sort out your fear or go elsewhere, seems simple to me.

davidstuart · 07/08/2021 15:49

not as many as humans carry

Roselilly36 · 07/08/2021 15:49

Aww my lovely hairdresser started to have her little dog in the salon with her, as he was old, it was lovely to see him. I like dogs and used to look forward to seeing him. So it didn’t bother me.

davidstuart · 07/08/2021 15:50

yes its fine if you dont like dogs go elsewhere
