Grey, mustard, pink... WHY???

Went to "The Range" today as it's newly opened near me and I've never been in before. Absolute load of cheap tat, of course, but even so it's still weird that every single thing was grey, mustard yellow, dull pink, or some combination thereof. Are these three colours all you're allowed if you can't (or choose not to) spend a lot on your soft furnishings?

Bath towels, bedding, cushions, tableware, random decorative items - 90% across every single category was grey, mustard, and/or pink except for rugs - 100% of those were. not one single option in any other colour except for a couple in white.

Obviously they sell what people buy, but surely people aren't THAT homogenous?

I don't know what my AIBU is except for maybe AIBU to wonder why these boring colours that already looked tired and outdated five years ago are still being shovelled at the lower end of the market?

@Pastrydame

People also want variety (especially given how much time we've spent at home!) so don't want the same colour of cushion or rug for ever.
For some people that's true. I buy stuff I need and love and will save up and wait for the sales. I've had my rugs and cushions for years and still love them. Fast fashion is awful and now it's homeware, it's depressing.

went with the orange (phew. Go upper end of the market me ) but guess the grey must still be clawing me back into the lower end of the market pit with its cold dead hands

Grin

So If half your bathroom is low end, and half is high end does that make you middle end? Confused

I love a bit of mustard. These are in my Pinterest board. I think mustard and teal/duck eggs looks lovely and I don’t care who says otherwise 🤭😎

This is a properly weird post.

It's not difficult at all to ignore trends, I've been doing it my whole life. I've not a clue what colours are en vogue because I choose to just be happily oblivious to it all and buy things I like rather than what others tell me I should like.

I had the laundry room painted a sort of battleship grey about 10 years ago and it makes me chuckle whenever people comment about how it's on trend because I just thought it looked nice with the white blinds in there.

IKEA is cheap as chips and they have all manner of colours and styles on offer. I've never been to the range but I've shopped in similar places and they tend to stock what sells, so if there's swathes of mustard and grey it's because that's what people are buying a lot of. Makes sense for that type of business to cater for the majority rather than the minority.

@boobot1 me too.....I can't wait to go and look at the cheap festive tat Grin
It makes a lovely addition to the rest of my festive shite that my children seem to love and my husband hates because it's a pain to clean around for a month of the year😆
