Is this too much food??

Toddler Dd, 3, her dinner today. Very hot where we are, lots of salads etc. We made bread today, so possibly a bit more than normal here, with the bread included.
My mum says I feed her too much food and no wonder she doesn’t eat it all. I don’t expect her to eat it all, but like to give her a varied choice in the hope she chooses parts and eats something, which she does.
Dd is a normal weight etc.
Aibu or is this an okay amount of food for her for dinner?

I'll take one please! Looks yummy and nutritious too!

Nightgardenisodd · 04/08/2021 19:00

It’s a bit of mayo..bad mum I imagine!

She generally always leaves a bit, but will tend to eat a bit of most things.
She had pasta for lunch so a light salad meal, I’d actually normally put more 🤷🏻‍♀️But Dm is always shocked at the amount she gets? Isn’t about waste as I'll wrap up and save for lunch the next day sometimes.
My mum gave her one Weetabix the other day..that was it, I said she normally manages two when she has Weetabix (not that often) plus a banana or berries etc. She said was fine..an hour later Dd was asking for toast 🙄

Your mother is looking for (I assume) a clean plate and you’re looking for your DD to have choices, try different foods and learn to eat until she’s full. Your mother’s view isn’t relevant because you don’t care about a clean plate. Your DD is a healthy weight so your approach is working.

RebelHaberdashery · 04/08/2021 19:00

Looks great.

I always ate my toddlers' leftovers; it wasn't wasted.

My mother had plenty of opinions. But as my father said, quoting Clint Eastwood, I believe: 'opinions are like assholes - everybody's got one'.

PattyPan · 04/08/2021 19:01

Is that a piece of cheese? A serving for an adult is a matchbox sized amount (the small ones Grin) so not sure how thick it’s cut but that might be a bit much. Giving the choice of lots of different bits is a good idea and as long as it doesn’t go to waste and she’s a healthy weight I don’t see the problem.

clickychicky · 04/08/2021 19:02

Looks fine! She'll eat what she needs to and is growing.

Nightgardenisodd · 04/08/2021 19:02

@PattyPan It’s a thin slice of cheese

My mum gave her one Weetabix the other day..that was it

It sounds like your mum has very little understanding of how much a normal active 3 year old should be eating.

Nightgardenisodd · 04/08/2021 19:02

@PattyPan Portuguese cheese, it’s cut into slices

OP posts:
PattyPan · 04/08/2021 19:03

That’s fine then! Although YABU for serving it with mayo Grin

clickychicky · 04/08/2021 19:04

Looks nice!

LoveFall · 04/08/2021 19:04

I think that looks great. Including the squirt of mayo. I love the dish!

Anonymous48 · 04/08/2021 19:05

YABU for squirting mayo onto cheese! Why?

Other than that, looks great.

Nightgardenisodd · 04/08/2021 19:06

Dd is also very much of the thought that if you don’t finish it all, you don’t have ice cream etc, I just don’t like it, although I grew up with that. I remember Db sat for ages at the table, trying to squash sprouts under napkins and things 🤣
We have such conflicting views about food. Barely wants Dd to eat much, but always wants to shove her full ot ice creams and cake, thinks I’m mean that Dd drinks water, especially when at cafes (she likes it and is used to it 🤷🏻‍♀️) but will give her glasses full of fresh orange, which she says is full of Vit C, well yes it is, but big glasses full for a toddler 😬

Looks totally fine to me - a really nice, healthy range. As long as she’s not forced to clear her plate (which you’ve said she isn’t!) then she’ll regulate her own appetite fine.

Longdistance · 04/08/2021 19:07

Oh yum, that looks great. She can pick and choose what she wants on there.
One Weetabix isn’t enough for a 3yo.

FTEngineerM · 04/08/2021 19:07

My one year old eats that amount 3 times a day😬🤷🏽‍♀️ He is moving every second his eyes are open though.

Nightgardenisodd · 04/08/2021 19:07

@Anonymous48 🤣 Was very rushed and Dd asked for a bit to dip her veg into, isn’t ideal I know, but I love mayo with my salad too, otherwise it’s not the most exciting.

*Dm not Dd 🤣

fourandnomore · 04/08/2021 19:08

Lovely, definitely not too much. Mine would all have eaten more than that aged 3 - toddlers need quite a lot of food to keep them going they’re so active. Love the variety and the beautiful plate Smile

dancinfeet · 04/08/2021 19:09

@phishy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nightgardenisodd · 04/08/2021 19:10

@FTEngineerM Same! That’s why I’m like ‘What?’ 🤷🏻‍♀️Everytime she says to give her a bit less

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/08/2021 19:10

When DS was 3 bed have eaten about a third of that so I'm impressed she eats it. He was a grazer though.

Nightgardenisodd · 04/08/2021 19:13

@PattyPan Just looked at the pic properly 🤣that would be a massive chunk of cheese 😅it’s a slice folded over in half

OP posts:
Nightgardenisodd · 04/08/2021 19:13

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor She barely clears the whole plate, but generally eats bits of everything
