Is this too much food??

Toddler Dd, 3, her dinner today. Very hot where we are, lots of salads etc. We made bread today, so possibly a bit more than normal here, with the bread included.
My mum says I feed her too much food and no wonder she doesn’t eat it all. I don’t expect her to eat it all, but like to give her a varied choice in the hope she chooses parts and eats something, which she does.
Dd is a normal weight etc.
Aibu or is this an okay amount of food for her for dinner?

@IReadTheWholeThread No, that’s the thing, she’s always been very slim (size 8-10) naturally really, she could do with eating a few pies!
Agree about the fresh orange, I kept saying too much is not good for your tummy

@UndertheCedartree I tend to cover and put it in the fridge for lunch the next day as can’t stand just emptying perfectly good food in the bin. Dm doesn’t bother much about waste and says she’d chuck it and not serve the same again

@Nightgardenisodd I meant when she was a young girl. Maybe she was forced to cut back on potatoes? Just a thought.

Anyway, still laughing at the people who don’t read, hence the continued tuna/bread/WTF is that?! 🤣

Abraxan · 07/08/2021 12:15

@minty133

What the heck is Portuguese cheese? And why does the bread look like dried-up tuna?
Cheese from Portugal?? Not exactly something that needs explaining surely.

And the bread is homemade and is probably the middle bit, without the crust.

I do love a mumsnet food thread.
The level of competitive underrating is always astounding.
And the hyperbole of very normal food products and quantities is always worth a read.
I'm really glad to see this one doesn't disappoint!

I hope to generate an original question that has not been answered twenty times before:

Is the wooden plate shaped like a rabbit,(with rabbit's ears holding the sweetcorn, tomatoes, carrots and cucumber)? If so, does anyone know where such a plate can be purchased? And are there other animals available too?

smilingontheinside · 07/08/2021 21:57

Good job your mum isn't my gs granny. He'd eat that then ask what's for dinner! He's 3 and a big lad (not fat but tall and sturdy built like a mini rugby player). He spends lots of time outdoors, can run like a greyhound and eats like a horse😂

MakeMathsFun · 08/08/2021 02:04
Thank you. It's an wonderful bunny plate. I think a full set for all the family (adults included) would be great, but that would be quite pricey. The sucker system looks like a super idea too to stop it falling on the floor.

Well many on here seem to think you could complete the feeding of the 5,000 on a Tescos' cooked chicken 😂

'Blimey! That would be a lot for me....and I'm over weight!'

If that's true, you need to see a doctor. Hope everything is ok 💐

I’m not convinced the avocado has had enough attention yet.

You're right, it needs a right slagging off for being unethical and full of ungoodness. How much avocado???! Dear lord, I'm very concerned about the message that's sending to a susceptible toddler's developing consciousness.
NameChangeHelpWithBullies · 08/08/2021 17:05

Thank you @SpindleWhorl, I knew others would understand!

That's a great idea. As you say if the food will keep, it makes sense. I did used to do that with mine when they were younger too. If they were hungry in the afternoon after lunch or in the evening after dinner they were often happy to have a bit more of their lunch/dinner.

I have the fox and penguin :) I think they make dinner time fun! They are from BambooBamboo as someone has already mentioned.

Good grief this thread....I've literally cried laughing with the ridiculousness of some of these comments.
If anyone thinks this is a HUGE amount of food they seriously need help. The salad is a spoonful of sweetcorn, one cherry tomato, 1-2 slices of cucumber, one egg, one thin slice of cheese etc Posters saying they'd eat a third of that - you'd actually give your child a third of a cherry tomato or a third of a slice of cucumber? While I acknowledge children all have different appetites nobody could genuinely think this is a large amount.
DS age 3 had for tea - a ham and cheese wrap, some plain popcorn, about 4 cherry tomatoes, 6 slices of cucumber, some blueberries and a fromage frais. He's tall, slim, extremely active, healthy and fit. He loves his food and eats a lot of fruit, vegetables, healthy carbs, dairy, meat, fish. As well as treats every now and again.
OP that looks like a fab meal....well done for not rising to some of the more ridiculous comments.

Have told my daughter about this thread….she cannot ever imagine or dream of her 19 month old eating so much !! In fact today she walked around our local town just to get half an egg sandwich into her !

MakeMathsFun · 09/08/2021 00:03

@Tibtab - thanks for the info about the Fox and Penguin shaped plates.

AIBU to think that most 3 year olds would eat more from a bunny plate than a fox plate? Any thoughts on the penguin?

olidora63 · 09/08/2021 00:06

Just to say we definitely do not think it is a huge amount of food….it’s a dream if grandchild actually ate quarter of the amount 💕

olidora63 · 09/08/2021 00:09

@Tibtab…that is what we need…a plate that is appealing for a toddler 😊

Tibtab · 09/08/2021 08:45

@MakeMathsFun we mix them up depending on what the food is, the fox keeps everything separate but the penguin is fine if it’s just something like toast.

@olidora63 I think they are fun :) if they are 3 they can pick their own favourite animal.
