Does anyone still cook a weekly roast on Sunday?

Does anyone still do this? Just pondering what to prepare today and am quite fancying a curry! Do you cook (or go out for) a traditional roast dinner on a Sunday?

In winter or cold rainy days I usually do a roast. Today I'm making a pie instead.

Maggiesfarm · 01/08/2021 10:51

Not now I am on my own but I nearly always did. I miss it actually.

Cook what you like, there are no hard and fast rules about what to eat and when.

Chasingsquirrels · 01/08/2021 10:51

My parents do (and we go over and eat it with them). Less often we will and they'll come to us.
Over lockdowns when we weren't seeing them we usually cooked one at home.
My kids have grown up with Sunday roast & family, as did I, and we all enjoy it.

Occasionally they do a bbq if they can't be bothered, and I feel quite let down (in my head obviously don't say anything).

Haybo26 · 01/08/2021 10:51

Yes, come rain or shine. Saves me thinking about another meal idea ha.

MrsN100 · 01/08/2021 10:52

Never do. We are not much fans of a roast here. Weekends are for relaxed easy, eating out meals.

ClemDanFango · 01/08/2021 10:52

Not anymore, lamb and beef joints are out of our price range and we can’t hack roast chicken every week. Today we’re having vegetable stir fry.

Astella22 · 01/08/2021 10:52

Most weekends yeah. I love a good roast.

Chasingsquirrels · 01/08/2021 10:52

Although if mum does a chicken, ham & leek pie I am overjoyed.

icedcoffees · 01/08/2021 10:53

No.

I never had them weekly as a kid either, though - we only had roast dinner on Christmas day.

Turnthatlightoff · 01/08/2021 10:54

I do most weeks, if its a scorching day I'll do a roast chicken with a salad instead of the trimmings.
My children moan but a sunday roast feels like home to me and I love it.

Betteb · 01/08/2021 10:55

I do in the colder months, in the warmer months anything goes.

HermioneGrunger · 01/08/2021 10:55

No, it's far too much faff for a Sunday, actually it's too much faff full stop. I'd go to a pub to have a roast lunch though, no cooking and no clearing up.

ChicChaos · 01/08/2021 10:55

Yes, usually roast chicken (but we only get two meals out of a chicken and maybe some stock, so it's not the MN chicken of a thousand meals). Early evening meal as well, not middle of the day.

BrilliantBetty · 01/08/2021 10:56

Yes, a simpler roast on Sundays through autumn and winter. With all the trimmings etc when it's an occasion or guests round.

Not often in summer, we seem to be busier.

Twillow · 01/08/2021 10:56

I did start for a while doing it regularly. God the washing up...
Thank heavens for summer and picky meals.

StarryNight468 · 01/08/2021 10:56

I hate being tied to a roast every Sunday, but I also love a roast every Sunday. It's a dilemma and we often get a take away roast but I always feel disappointed with them as they're never as good as what I can make.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 01/08/2021 10:57

Only during the months with an R in.
I never go out for a Sunday roast as they would never match mine.

CounsellorTroi · 01/08/2021 10:58

No, preparing, cooking, eating and clearing away takes a big chunk of the day that could be put to better use it seems to me. We do very occasionally do a simple roast for Saturday night dinner.

RosesAndHellebores · 01/08/2021 10:59

Yes, except on warm summer days, when we might have smoked salmon, marinaded cous chicken, or a barbecue. Still have something special on Sundays. Always in the evening though otherwise it.takes out a whole day.

Samanabanana · 01/08/2021 11:00

In the cooler months, definitely! Pasta today though as I have ingredients that need using up

Iseeyoulookingatme · 01/08/2021 11:02

No I can't be bothered to, maybe once a month. My ex mil does without fail even when it's boiling outside.

AlanThePig · 01/08/2021 11:02

Some weeks, but we have a slightly different tradition now...

Adult DS and I are huge F1 fans so we've been trying to have Sunday lunch for the country we're racing in. It's Hungary today so we have Goulash.

Parker231 · 01/08/2021 11:03

Rarely - takes up too much valuable time on a Sunday. We go out for brunch on Sunday and then out for the day and home for a quick evening meal - pasta or something on toast

Marmite27 · 01/08/2021 11:03

We tend to have something with gravy, but alternate an actual roast.

Today we’re having cottage pie. Other non roast but gravy meals include steak pie, sausage and mash, toad in the hole, chicken breasts and roast potatoes, beef stew.

Passthewinebottle · 01/08/2021 11:06

9 Sundays out of 10 yes! I really love a roast. But every now & again I can't be arsed & revert to something else!
