To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

I can't get my head round this type of behaviour. Blatant disregard for others around them. Incredible. Glad you locked him in, he's a dick.

Dexterslab · 31/07/2021 12:36

Very excited to come back to this later to see an update!

LemonFantaGin · 31/07/2021 12:36

@chaosrabbitland id do exactly the same, except I'd sit right where he could see me and ignore him for however long he left his car on my property, just as he ignored me and went about his business.

Gooseysgirl · 31/07/2021 12:36

Christ almighty what an absolute dick. I would leave a note on his car saying.. 'I'll just be five minutes' and feck off for the rest of the day. (These parking threads are the gift that keeps on giving at the moment 😆)

Newbie8365 · 31/07/2021 12:37

I cant get over how rude some people can be! Shocked! I hope he really sweats when he realises he is locked in and the world doesnt revolve around him!

itsgettingwierd · 31/07/2021 12:37

The fuming stick figure is an amazing addition to the diagram 🤣

I also need to hear more about picnic woman.

Reminds me of a sitcom I watched recently about a couple who live to the countryside and find out apparently a footpath with ROW goes right through their garden! (In this case it did but it was about why CF would want to stop there to eat when they could stop anywhere!)

MoonlightWanderer · 31/07/2021 12:38

I love a parking thread!!

I definitely wouldn't leave a note. He can figure it out himself. I feel sorry for the kids though.

Mountainpika · 31/07/2021 12:38

When he comes back, make out you don't recognise him. Ask for proof of identity, proof of ownership of the car. (driving licence and insurance docs) When you've hummed and haaed for a while, accept the documents as proof. But before you'll open the gates, you want a donation (minimum £25) for a charity you support.
The sweetly wave him on his way. (extra sweetly if pungent manure happens to have got on the wheels and underside)

DysmalRadius · 31/07/2021 12:39

During lockdown, I knocked on the door of a closed, but obviously occupied, pub to ask if we could use their otherwise empty car park because it was the only one locally that didn't have height restrictions - the idea of parking someone's driveway and fucking off without so much as a by your leave gives me palpitations and adding kids into the mix is almost too much for me to bear!!

song6ird · 31/07/2021 12:40

I live by a primary school and suffer such ignorance regularly. Neighbours have come home and found someone parked in their drive with nowhere to park themslves without blocking them in! Usually they block access to my drive, but if anyone ever goes in my drive they will get blocked in and won't be released until they have paid for parking!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 31/07/2021 12:42

Have to say love your diagram (could you tell this is a place mark!). Second the idea of a charity donation to free the car.

DroopyClematis · 31/07/2021 12:42

Can't wait to read your update OP.
Love a cf thread.

memberofthewedding · 31/07/2021 12:43

Wonderful thread. I dont even drive but will watch with great interest!

People treat the countryside like a theme park! Guess what, theme parks close sometimes!

I would not worry about the kids being tired cold and hungry or being kept waiting because you had been "drinking" and cannot now legally drive to move your vehicle. My policy is always "take the innocent along with the guilty" and let them suffer too. He will feel all the more guilty and otherwise the kids are going to grow up as pushy and entitled as their father.

However in your place I would have towed the car to the least convenient place (such as blocking the entrance to the car park so that he gets fined) and denied all knowledge.

chesterelly · 31/07/2021 12:44

When he comes back I would have misplaced the keys. Then come out with loads of sweets, ice lolly, fizzy drinks for the kids because "it's not fair they've had to wait around because their dad was silly enough to park somewhere that had to be locked". I'd find the keys once they'd consumed the lot and wave them off hoping that they'd all be sick on the way home. If it was my kids that would be within 5 minutes and they'd be right as rain but the inside of his car on the other hand....

longtompot · 31/07/2021 12:46

@CaffeineAndNicotine

I like the addition of the fuming stick-you!
Me too! I zoomed in to see it better Grin
BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 31/07/2021 12:46

Hes back! The dogs have just gone bezerko (I've left the gate to the garden open so they can go and bark at people on driveway 2) and I've had a nose at the camera and he's outside. Currently got the bikes propped up on the fence and are just standing there.

I am genuinely baffled by people. You could just about excuse parking there having been oblivious to the signs, but to stay put when you asked him to move? I don't know how people are this entitled and rude!

I am on the verge of selling my house because of parking which sounds very dramatic but when you have problems on a regular basis it really gets you down. I have a shared driveway leading to our own driveway with next door and I've had to ask three people this morning to move off the shared bit because they've blocked my car in and I've been told 1) I'm only dropping something off I'll be gone in an hour, 2) Can you knock on the door if you need to go out and I will move, and 3) Well where else can I park? The neighbours are lovely but they're inconsiderate about parking because they don't think its a big deal to have to constantly move cars around and "there's more important things in life" so they told me last weekend.

Ideally I need to live somewhere behind a big gate that I can lock I think!

BarryTheKestrel · 31/07/2021 12:46

What an absolute cock. Well done for blocking him in. Can't wait to hear how his return goes down!

Primrosefields · 31/07/2021 12:47

What a shame that a friend had already arranged with you to have their faulty car dropped off on your drive until the garage is open again on Monday. As its undrivable and you're not insured to drive it even if you could, there is nothing you can do. You did say that the drive was private and that he would need to be moved within 5 minutes.

PizzaPiePizzaPie · 31/07/2021 12:47

He didn’t think you would do it that’s why! I’d go out, leave a note on the door that you will be 5 minutes (1hour)

ifonly4 · 31/07/2021 12:47

Let him sweat - a long time!!!

AuntyFungal · 31/07/2021 12:48

If you’ve got enough manure - a very wide boarder around (but not touching) the car.

The pleasure of watching them carrying the kids and bikes over, trying to sit in the car and taking off their shoes etc… would more than compensate for the clearing up after.

Batsy · 31/07/2021 12:49

now, will he have the balls to come knock?

Ninkanink · 31/07/2021 12:50

Good! Don’t you dare go out there for at least as long as they were gone! You’re doing this on behalf of all reasonable people who take shit from cheeky entitled arrogant fuckers far too often!

👏 👏 👏

BluebellsGreenbells · 31/07/2021 12:51

Please tell is he’s desperately ringing your door bell!
