To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

What an arsehole! Cheeky to begin with and has now taken it to another level of cheekyfuckeryness.

DepressedDD · 31/07/2021 15:01

I cycle a lot but even I would be tired by now. Are you in the new forest OP, is it the new forest cycling festival week?

Dollywilde · 31/07/2021 15:03

I’m rooting for you OP! The last parking thread I invested in turned out to (possibly) be a mistake not rudeness and so I felt a bit let down - but this is gold plated CFery and you have every ground to make him pay for it.

DepressedDD · 31/07/2021 15:03

Do you think he realises the gate is locked? Maybe he’s just seen the truck blocking the way and hasn’t investigated further? He’s probably thinking some cheeky fucker has blocked that woman’s gate and is hoping the other motorist (who has probably gone cycling) comes back and moves their truck soon. 😂😂

Bit of boring legal stuff as police officer here. Thought it might add to the debate. Grin

Entitled man has committed civil trespass. Op could claim through civil court (not that it would be worth it) but police would not attend unless she had her own vehicle behind it unable to get out. Then they would because of reasons below.

OP is technically blocking access to a public highway (with good reason), which is a criminal offence and police could attend (doubtful under current circumstances but...). However, no police officer ever would actually take any action against OP if she explained she gave entitled man a chance to move, warned him gates had to be locked for insurance purposes, that he rode off and gave her no means to contact him, and she has been waiting for him to knock on the door to ask to be released which of course she would have done (said smiling sweetly of course). They'd also take a very dim view of entitled man calling them instead of trying to resolve it himself by apologising and asking OP to open gates.

Some officers might even say that since entitled man was aware he was on private land and gates would be locked in 5 minutes before he went off on the ride, he has entered a verbal contract with the OP entirely at his own risk and that therefore it is not a police matter at all!

Cap89 · 31/07/2021 15:04

I’ve been following this with relish. Well done for sticking with it OP, can’t wait to see how it pans out. Just had a thought though, what’s the weather like where you are?! We’ve got the most horrendous downpours here. Suddenly occurred to me that the weather might end up forcing his hand!!!

viques · 31/07/2021 15:05

Wow, they have been out and about on those bikes for getting on for four hours! Maybe they are practising for the Junior Tour de France.

Surely Daddy will give in and come back grovelling to OP soon, or is he gearing up for an entitled rant.

Pipsquiggle · 31/07/2021 15:05

What a CF!

Can't believe he hasn't come round deeply apologetic.

I mean what a twat

Excellent! Grin

HaveringWavering · 31/07/2021 15:05

I’d move the truck. He’s still locked in and it being there could make you look petty.

Window1 · 31/07/2021 15:06

Interesting to see whether he will come back with his tail between his legs with regret and apology for the OP, or take the sloped shoulder approach of refusing to accept responsibility for his own actions.

We really do need a parking topic.

itsgettingwierd · 31/07/2021 15:07

Anyone else hoping one of the kids rings mum - explains.

And mum is a MNer!

And mum responds by picking up the kids and leaving him with the bikes to undo his own doing!

sherlockhomeless · 31/07/2021 15:07

@itsgettingwierd that would be perfect

TellySavalashairbrush · 31/07/2021 15:07

I wonder what his wife/partner’s views would be on the subject. Have an image of him trying to keep it hush hush and the kids snitching on ‘daddy parking in a lady’s driveway when she told him he couldn’t’ Grin
What a prat!!

FrippEnos · 31/07/2021 15:08

@HaveringWavering

It doesn't, the OP has a working stable and could quite easily have had something that needed to be taken to the stables from the truck.
TellySavalashairbrush · 31/07/2021 15:09

Cross post itsgettingabitweird!!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/07/2021 15:09

Weird - YES!

God that would be brilliant. Although anyone on here with a DH who’s taken the kids out today is going to start getting nervous now…Grin
HaveringWavering · 31/07/2021 15:11

It doesn't, the OP has a working stable and could quite easily have had something that needed to be taken to the stables from the truck.

But the truck could be parked on her other drive once unloaded.

PegasusReturns · 31/07/2021 15:12

His trying to brazen it out would infuriate me more. The absolute cheek!

Onthebrink87 · 31/07/2021 15:14

At this point I think I'd leave the damned thing locked in until I was legally enforced to release it. But I'm a twat.

ScrambledSmegs · 31/07/2021 15:14

Do you have any spare manure lying around, OP?

Just thinking that if a heap or two magically appears near his cockmobile, it may focus his mind a little...

Datsandcogs · 31/07/2021 15:14

YADNBU OP.

Before he returns put up a large notice on the gate, stating private property and a £xxx unlocking fee.

Ghosttile · 31/07/2021 15:15

I wonder if he’d have stayed parked if a man had told him to shift the car? Entitled bike fucker.

dapsnotplimsolls · 31/07/2021 15:15

So, when/if he finally knocks on the door, if he's in any way arsey, you can say 'I've been informed by the police that you broke a verbal contract. Matey.'
