To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

Yeah, get some geese. They're absolutely evil. When I was a teen I went to feed the ducks at a local lake and several of the geese kept me distracted while another snuck behind me and tried to steal my bag of bread.

WinterRose92 · 31/07/2021 13:14

What are they planning to do exactly?! Just leave the car there? He knows he’s done wrong as he’s not had the guts to come and knock on your door to try and apologise and sort it out.

IggyAce · 31/07/2021 13:14

Lock the gate and disappear, it’s his own fault. Excellent diagram I live the fact you included yourself.

@yeOldeTrout

I've got mixed feelings about this thread.

I agree parker was unreasonable, I know OP can validly do all she's done, but fundamentally, the car parked there was never an actual inconvenience to her. Moreover, OP now has the huge inconvenience of how does she want to get out of this situation. Sounds like OP is trapped in her home.

Fun fantasy but reality of execution not so appealing.

No she's not. She has a separate drive and a life of her own. The CF knew what he was doing and didn't give a shit about the 'woman' who told him not to. He'll think twice next time.
BigasdaB · 31/07/2021 13:15

Loving this thread! Ha serves him right.

MagnoliaBeige · 31/07/2021 13:15

@MotionActivatedDog

OP you can leave him there for the same length of time he left his car on your drive.
100% this!!
RandomMess · 31/07/2021 13:15

Leave a note on your truck

"Gone out for the day now"

TheAwfuITruth · 31/07/2021 13:15

but fundamentally, the car parked there was never an actual inconvenience to her

So the fuck what?

He didn't know that, and what's more he didn't give a shit.

Do we apply that logic to everything btw?
'Well she drove shitfaced but didn't hit anyone so...'

LemonFantaGin · 31/07/2021 13:16

It's time to go out OP, I think you need shopping in the next town and then lunch with some friends 😏

Alternista · 31/07/2021 13:17

I think it’s more CFery as well, he’s hoping you’ll crack.
Go out now, for several hours. Leave a note saying there is CCTV and you wont hesitate to call the police if needed.

Rogue1001 · 31/07/2021 13:18

Obviously cycled off to buy you flowers and chocolates by way of apology for being massive twats, do we think????

lastcall · 31/07/2021 13:18

so they've clearly decided to picnic in the woods now, hoping you'll cave

please don't

RandomMess · 31/07/2021 13:18

Can you open the garden gate so the dogs can guard the driveway as well?

How is she trapped? I'm sure if she wants to go out she doesn't need to drive her truck to get there. She is free to leave her house anytime and not come back for days if she wishes. This disrespectful prick was told she'd be back in 5 minutes to lock her gate to her property so he deserves to be left wandering about with his kids.
Faevern · 31/07/2021 13:18

No mixed feelings here @yeOldeTrout he was inconsiderate and dismissive of OP and now he's having to deal with his own cheeky fuckery, too scared to knock on her door.

Probably cycling home and he's hoping the car will be gone later. Bet he comes back with his wife later tonight to get it. Leave the car there op, keep it blocked in.
Wanttocry · 31/07/2021 13:18

but fundamentally, the car parked there was never an actual inconvenience to her.

I don’t think that matters. That’s true about loads of things - if someone parked on the driveway outside my house, I could park on the road, so it wouldn’t technically be an actual inconvenience. But that doesn’t mean you can go around parking on people’s driveways.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 31/07/2021 13:19

Don't forget your current responsibilities in the pandemic, OP. As it belongs to a different, non-bubbled household from your own, you'll need to liberally spray his car all over to kill off any transmissible Covid particles. Acetone is good, powerful stuff - perfect for stripping off any layers of, erm, virus particles that might be there.

CanofCant · 31/07/2021 13:19

Can't believe he sent his kids over the gate too. Sounds like a prick.

cooldarkroom · 31/07/2021 13:19

I'd open the gate niw but leave a massive pile of horse manure on the bonnet behind, with no shovel

Ninkanink · 31/07/2021 13:20

No mixed feelings here either.

He is and always will be a cheeky fucker, teaching his children to be lazy, selfish, entitled fuckers in his image. It matters not one jot if OP wasn’t inconvenienced.

yeOldeTrout · 31/07/2021 13:20

People on MN are very enthusiastic about encouraging punishment, revenge, anger, intolerance and resentment.

I’d bet good money that this guy wouldn’t tolerate some random person parking on his driveway without permission.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/07/2021 13:21

That is not open to interpretation/misunderstanding - the CF just assumed she wouldn't follow through and he could get his own way

Exactly

It's not difficult for OP to "get out of" either ... when she's good and ready and he's stomped off somewhere, all she has to do is go out and re-arrange things so he can get out again

Even if they're reduced to sleeping in the car and she has to do it quietly so as not to wake them Grin
