Why do people put these stickers on their car?

I was just following a car that had two stickers on the back - one saying "kiss my arse" and a Betty Boop cartoon with her bum exposed, and the other saying "you've just been overtaken by a girl". (See attached pics if interested).

Is it just me, or is this incredibly tacky? I mean, the "baby on board" stuff doesn't bother me. But why oh why does anyone need to announce that they are female for the benefit of the car they have overtaken? Doesn't this just perpetuate silly gender stereotypes about women drivers? And why tell a random stranger behind you to "kiss your arse"? Is that really necessary?

Do you have such slogans on your car? If so, please could you explain why, so that I can put this issue to bed and move on with my day. Grin

(I've been disproportionately irritated by this today - can you tell...?)Grin

@Meraas

I can almost understand the got passed by a girl one, just because the male drivers who get affronted when I over take them, safely.

Oh really? I've never noticed a male driver seem affronted at being overtaken. Then again I wouldn't really notice as this generally happens on a motorway at higher speeds so I barely catch a glimpse of the person I've overtaken, let alone be able to assess their mood. I'm sure it happens - just hasn't happened to me thankfully. I've been subjected to other type of moron behaviour on the roads, though. Mostly men... the occasional woman.

@Wherearemymarbles

Some years ago there was a story(with photos) about an American woman who had an enlarged photo of her fanny on the bonnet of her original VW beetle

I guess it was a true beetle bonnet!!

Please tell me this isn't true 😳

Incredibly tacky. I loathe them. Especially the "powered by" ones. Ugh.

They belong to the sort of people that say " I'm mad me, absolutely mad" when actually they're basic and boring.

alwayswrighty · 31/07/2021 07:15

You probably won't like my reasonably loud in volume, reasonably loud in style car then 🤣

I also have tattoo's that are personal to me, but I don't have wall stickers.

Why do people put these stickers on their car?

@alwayswrighty

Oh wow that's very bright!

Tbh, it's more the silly slogans like the ones in the OP that irritate me. Yours doesn't offend me whatsoever; it's not my taste - but equally it's not distasteful. You are safe from the sticker police! Grin

@feelingmehtoday 🤣 thank you. She is different. Does make me giggle how most men are surprised when I get out the drivers side 🤣

feelingmehtoday · 31/07/2021 07:23

Oh and I'd also like to clarify I have nothing against tattoos. That's been brought in as a comparison twice on this thread and I honestly really like a lot of tattoos! (Other half has a full sleeve tattoo on his arm, which I love). This thread is purely about tacky car stickers. Grin

@feelingmehtoday saw someone with an 'I love boobies' sticker with the o's having nippers the other day and it gave me the rage. Just made me think the guys a misogynistic twat.

zingally · 31/07/2021 07:33

That's pretty gross.

The baby on board ones are pretty pointless as well... I mean, I WAS going to ram your car from behind, but now I've seen that sign, I... won't?

whistlers · 31/07/2021 07:46

@Cooper88

I have car stickers, I also have tattoos and piercings. I like to decorate my body, my car my home my workspace. I like to be an individual and I like to express that in various forms. TBH I don't give a flying monkey if anyone else likes it as its not there car, body, home, workspace etc.
As yes, the ubiquitous tattoos making one 'an individual'

You paid £ for that??

😂🤣

whistlers · 31/07/2021 07:55

@Cooper88

It's not individual in that lots of people have them but nit everyone has the same ones, just like not.everyone has the same tattoos as me (and 2 of them.are custom designed so.i know that's true). I have several car stickers in various points around the car as I like them which makes my car uniquely mine.
From a distance all tattoos look the same. Actually even up close.

Yep. Sounds like the car of a twat. Grin

@Watchingyou2sleezes

Yes, but I love my car and if you like your cars it is a sought after car (the orange is standard). Now my kids are grown I don't need something that just gets me from A to B so I suppose you could say I've hit a mid life crisis but in reality I had children young so have only recently been able to afford what I've been lusting over, and I'm not a standard car kind of girl.

Mommabear20 · 31/07/2021 08:23

While I'd personally never get one, I don't mind the inoffensive ones, (powered by pixie dust/ eye lashes etc) they look ridiculous but I don't have to drive the car so hey! Live and let live! BUT the ones like in OP original post are just inappropriate and completely unnecessary!

SerendipityJane · 31/07/2021 08:32

@dreamersdown

‘Baby on Board’ signs aren’t at all the same thing. Parents have them to signal to the emergency services that there is a baby travelling in the vehicle, as they can be thrown from the vehicle during accidents.
THe emergency services don't need a fucking sticker to know how to do their jobs. It would be much safer for kids if their parents concentrated on their driving than festooning the car with stickers.
IheartJKR · 31/07/2021 08:49

@alwayswrighty

Your car looks fantastic 💪💪

alwayswrighty · 31/07/2021 08:58

Thanks @IheartJKR I think so, but I'm biased 🤣

feelingmehtoday · 31/07/2021 09:06

I don't think anyone is attempting to simultaneously drive their car whilst decorating it with stickers. (Cue someone coming on to say they've seen exactly this 😂)

@Lauz841 is that the newer tangerine as opposed to EO? That looks lush

wheresmymojo · 31/07/2021 10:11

@kowari

I have a work colleague with a overtaken by a girl sticker. She's a middle aged woman, not a girl. She also drives like an idiot, overtaking dangerously only to be stuck behind the next car so you catch up to her anyway, she doesn't get anywhere any faster. Those kind of stickers just let me know which cars to stay an extra safe distance from.

We live near a woman like this - boy racer car, tinted windows. Drives like a 17 year old boy.

Was right up my arse when I was doing the speed limit, did a dangerous overtake and then up the arse of the next person.

Got back to where we live and see the same car...with the 60ish year old female driver getting out. I was Shock

Lauz841 · 31/07/2021 10:18

@alwayswrighty
Yes, it’s the tangerine scream. With the husbands added extras. 😂 I might get a few bumper stickers to really make it pop! Haha. I also realised it has our personalised plate on the photo but now I can’t work out how to remove it so must of mumsnet will be checking it’s taxed and insured! 😂

wheresmymojo · 31/07/2021 10:19

Just to clarify since my post followed @alwayswrighty and @Lauz841 posts - it wasn't either of them Grin

alwayswrighty · 31/07/2021 10:21

@Lauz841report your post, they'll remove it ... lol

My husbands got a Fiesta ST. Do you do Simply Ford and Ford Fair and the like?
