Why do people put these stickers on their car?

I was just following a car that had two stickers on the back - one saying "kiss my arse" and a Betty Boop cartoon with her bum exposed, and the other saying "you've just been overtaken by a girl". (See attached pics if interested).

Is it just me, or is this incredibly tacky? I mean, the "baby on board" stuff doesn't bother me. But why oh why does anyone need to announce that they are female for the benefit of the car they have overtaken? Doesn't this just perpetuate silly gender stereotypes about women drivers? And why tell a random stranger behind you to "kiss your arse"? Is that really necessary?

Do you have such slogans on your car? If so, please could you explain why, so that I can put this issue to bed and move on with my day. Grin

(I've been disproportionately irritated by this today - can you tell...?)Grin

@feelingmehtoday

They’re for selling unnecessary shit to enthusiastic parents, so no different to a Sophie the Giraffe, a Jumperoo or those stupid Sock-Ons.

I take issue with you referring to Sophie the Giraffe as "unnecessary shit". My little one loves it. Grin

Fair. I’ve seen lots of kids going to town on Sophie’s legs. Maybe I’ve done her a disservice. I stand by the Sock Ons though!
StarlingsDarlings · 01/08/2021 11:35

I saw one the other day ‘grandchild on board’ which made me cringe.

@Drivingmeupthewall

I have no idea what the Socks On thing is! Off to Google....

good grief, some of you might not like them, but can we stop infering that people who do are common, trash, or otherwise less than anyone else please?

That's exactly what the Baby on Board signs are for. ...Parents proudly display them because they are so happy and excited to be new parents and want to tell the world.. even if the world at large does not care. . And people buy them as pregnancy gifts. Some of the comments are a bit harsh. I had one for my first baby.. the proud grandparents bought it. I happily displayed iit in our car. I would probably be happy to do so for a grandchild if we are lucky enough that one comes along hopes. If we are common then so be it. I don't buy into classist shit anyway..

'Tarty' ? Hmm - haven't we got beyond judging women for their style of dress.

DrSbaitso · 01/08/2021 13:10

Oh, don't encourage him.

TheTallOakTrees · 01/08/2021 13:20
@DrSbaitso I don’t often need to as I’m not often without her. But yes the few occasions when she’s been left with someone I do, otherwise they’re wasting time looking for a child when they could be helping me 😂 it’s not hard to pop the suction off and on.
Oh dear, are you always this gullible and purchase any old tat.

Katkinsgreyy · 01/08/2021 13:44

I don't particularly like the stickers but I couldn't care less if they are on a car or not!
Some of them give me a good chuckle as I'm driving along.

I also don't like air fresheners hanging under the mirror, but I wouldn't judge someone's character over it

feelingmehtoday · 01/08/2021 14:41

Can I just clarify that I haven't called anyone "common". And also that I don't mind the baby on board ones - as stated in my OP. Smile

Oi what’s wrong with sock ons? They’re really useful as they actually work to keep socks on.

But why is it so important they keep socks on? What will happen if their socks fall off? Nothing, really. It’s a product designed to fix a ‘problem’ that’s not really a problem.
HumbugWhale · 01/08/2021 19:58

Sock-ons do solve a problem though! My dcs constantly lost socks from the pushchair or at play group, nursery etc so I found sock-ons really helpful. One of the nursery staff asked me where I got them from as she said she spends a lot of her day picking up and replacing socks!

Pass a parked car every morning on the way to work with a " I can't stay at home, I'm a keyworker" sticker on the back.

Always makes me eyeroll.

Oooh shall I get one? I'm a key worker too. GrinGrinGrin
