Why do people put these stickers on their car?

I was just following a car that had two stickers on the back - one saying "kiss my arse" and a Betty Boop cartoon with her bum exposed, and the other saying "you've just been overtaken by a girl". (See attached pics if interested).

Is it just me, or is this incredibly tacky? I mean, the "baby on board" stuff doesn't bother me. But why oh why does anyone need to announce that they are female for the benefit of the car they have overtaken? Doesn't this just perpetuate silly gender stereotypes about women drivers? And why tell a random stranger behind you to "kiss your arse"? Is that really necessary?

Do you have such slogans on your car? If so, please could you explain why, so that I can put this issue to bed and move on with my day. Grin

(I've been disproportionately irritated by this today - can you tell...?)Grin

I know someone who has a sticker on his car that says, "The Tories are like cream. Rich, thick and full of clots." I must say I quite like that one! Grin

Baby on board and even worse grandchild on board really irritate me.
One bollocks about emergency services arent the car seats a big enough clue.
Two - how often is grandchild on board? in my experience of these stealth bragging grannys not very often.

Hemingwaycat · 01/08/2021 08:34

I hate all car stickers tbh. They’re always tacky, those ones particularly so.

Luddite26 · 01/08/2021 08:35

Sorry posted too soon.
Am i supposed to drive more carefully because you have a child on board. I fancy one saying husband on board as it would be as meaningless.

*Of course IRL people are entitled to express themselves in whichever legal way they choose. But it’s so nice to have a lighthearted thread to let off steam about life’s small annoyances.

There’s a very slowly driven vehicle I’ve been stuck behind a few times that says ‘On an adventure, before the dementia’.

It makes me irrationally angry that 1) their adventure is so slow 2) they consider dementia funny for their witty ditty.

feelingmehtoday · 01/08/2021 08:38

@Mumloveswine

I saw one on the back of a commercial blind/awning fitting van yesterday saying “a blind man drives this vehicle” haaaaa

Otherwise, major eye rolling goes on every time I see tacky stickers on cars.

😂 that one would have made me smile

@Lanique

I remember there was a trend in the eighties to have names at the top of the windscreen, invariably the choice of smug couples and always with the man's on the driver's side. So naff. Like this beauty.
Oh dear lord, this is dreadful 😂

@Ileflottante baby in board signs are used so in the case of a crash of emergency, emergency services will know to look for and/or prioritise any children in the car.

I got one would want them to get my 18 month out of the car before myself. It’s not there for decoration, it’s there for information.

Do you take it off when the child isn't in the car?

MyMabel · 01/08/2021 09:16

@DrSbaitso I don’t often need to as I’m not often without her. But yes the few occasions when she’s been left with someone I do, otherwise they’re wasting time looking for a child when they could be helping me 😂 it’s not hard to pop the suction off and on.

Ileflottante · 01/08/2021 09:25

But that’s simply not what they’re for. That’s a myth bollocks. That might be what you believe, but the emergency services pay absolutely no heed to them whatsoever. 😂

Luddite26 · 01/08/2021 09:32

How small and unsecure is your car seat that it instantly flies out of your car through air bags - i assume you aren't driving a 1980s vintage with no safety features or rear seat belts.
The amount of times these silly signs are in cars without children the emergency services must waste hours searching the hedgerows for babies missing from cars because the sign is there but the babba isn't. What a load of tosh.

FeeBeeBooh · 01/08/2021 09:52

I used to see this car locally to me. I do wonder if it's owned by Shane Ritchie

These people are just common!

pigsDOfly · 01/08/2021 11:15

These people are just common

There's one I pass sometimes when I'm walking my dog that says 'only speeding cos I need a poo'.

Yep 'common' probably sums that person up.

Surely you must know that that is so not what those signs are for?! I can’t believe gullible people still think they’re for emergency services. 🤦🏼‍♀️ If that was the case, they’d be a legal requirement surely?! They’re for selling unnecessary shit to enthusiastic parents, so no different to a Sophie the Giraffe, a Jumperoo or those stupid Sock-Ons. 😂

Trust me. Firefighters and paramedics don’t pay any attention to them. AT ALL. Especially as no one ever takes them out (apart from you apparently) so they’d waste precious time faffing about looking for kids that aren’t there.

DrSbaitso · 01/08/2021 11:29

Do emergency services need a window sticker to do their jobs?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 01/08/2021 11:30

I once saw a car sticker saying ' Guy Fawkes, where are you now that we need you?'
Made me smile.

Drivingmeupthewall · 01/08/2021 11:31

@DrSbaitso

Do emergency services need a window sticker to do their jobs?
Of course not. They’re ludicrous and pointless and if anything, partially obscure the rear view. 🤷🏼‍♀️
AlanThePig · 01/08/2021 11:31

I saw a biker once in summer with a T shirt on that read on the back "If you can read this the wife fell off" which still makes me snigger now.

On mine I have a simple number 33 sticker. Max Verstappen racing number and font.

I take issue with you referring to Sophie the Giraffe as "unnecessary shit". My little one loves it. Grin

My (adult) dc bought me a "Nanny's taxi"sticker for my car when my grandson was born as a joke.
Straight in the bin......
