To think loose women is awful

ohthestruggles · 29/07/2021 14:04

I'm not a regular watcher, happened to be on today when I was feeding my baby and couldn't reach the remote.

I couldn't help but think it really is bloody awful. Four women swooning over men. Would be completely inappropriate if it was a panel of four men doing the same to one women. They then discussed wether the the name 'grandma' is offensive whilst one of them dressed in a headscarf, cardigan and had knitting needles in her hand Confused

They also discussed the Wayne Rooney saga and as is the case any other time I've caught some of it, they just go over and over their own marriage break downs etc. Is there really nothing else they could put on the tv!?

@MrsMoastyToasty

I'm sure they lift most of their discussion topics from MN
I might watch tomorrow and see if my topic comes up!

Even the shows title is misogynistic

ShadowInVain · 29/07/2021 16:50

@fairgame84

I don't understand how it's still on TV. Who watches it? It must have a decent fan base and viewing figures to be going all this time.
My MIL (82) is the only viewer I know!
ohthestruggles · 29/07/2021 16:51

My granny (81) watches it, although she also reads chat magazine and the people's friend so..

I dunno, I haven’t seen it for a while but surely its whole remit is to be a bit light and gossipy and talking about themselves like a group of friends having lunch.

I’ve seen worse things tbh.

MIL is the same - Chat, Take A Break, My Weekly.

Perhaps it's mainly the older demographic who are watching it these days.

littlepinkwinky · 29/07/2021 16:54

Just bloody awful. They make me ashamed to have a tuppence.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 29/07/2021 16:54

I've caught the odd bit here and there when working from home.

It's absolutely dire.

I hate This Morning too though.

In fact, all daytime TV. I prefer to stick to the beeb. Kim and gethin, followed by homes under the hammer.

LouLou789 · 29/07/2021 16:57

My youngest DS always says if it was a panel of men it would be chucked off the air after one episode and he speculates as to the “best” (ie most controversial) man panel he could have. I believe his conclusion was Trump, Jeremy Clarkson, Gordon Ramsay and Piers Morgan.

Can you imagine an all male panel with one female guest..the female guest comes on and the panel start winking and fanning themselves with their cue cards!? It wouldn't be acceptable. It's odd.

OP posts:
ohthestruggles · 29/07/2021 16:59

Well it's more than odd but it's odd that it is acceptable because it's them!

It's just pure cringe.

@SamusIsAGirl

It's the school bitch pack with 5 extra decades and zero character development.
So true

Yep, you nailed it there @SamusIsAGirl

It used to be OK in its early days, but has gone downhill (a bit like some of the presenters).

newnortherner111 · 29/07/2021 17:03

OP, why has it taken you so long to realise? It was awful 15 years ago.

TrampolineForMrKite · 29/07/2021 17:04

Yeah, it always was. No idea how it limps on.

It hasn't, I don't watch it really, I just catch bits here and there. Just so happened today that I was feeding my little boy and couldn't reach the remote. I sat and listened in and just thought what a load of shit, really.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 29/07/2021 17:11

It's fucking shite and frankly a fucking insult to any woman who has even a modicum of intelligence. Anything with Coleen Nolan on is always going to be scraping the bottom of the barrel. And LOOSE women, who on earth came up with such a mysogynistic title? Frankly there are loads of things they could fill that spot with, that are interesting or informative. For example, I was trying to find the series of Victorian Farms and Wartime Farms on iplayer and it isn't available, so I would vote for that. Other options are of course available.

Iliketequilatoomuch · 29/07/2021 17:13

It is awful. It's completely dated and needs a massive shake up.

I used to like Kaye Adams, as she seems the only professional one there with any TV charisma and personality, but the last time I watched it, she was talking to Sam Fox and her fiancée or wife (can't remember if they were already married) and at the end of the interview said, with a very patronising tone "oh, lovely.. they're just like a couple" Hmm Ya think?!

Stacey Solomon comes across as really fake. She can have a normal expression one minute, but when she checks the monitor and sees she's on the screen, her shoulders shoot up and she beams like a Cheshire cat! I think she's probably quite nice in rl, but feels the need to put on this princessy, super happy, facade.

That aside though, the topics of discussion are DONE TO DEATH! Women do talk about other things besides menopause and incontinence! They keep saying they're "breaking the stigma", but in reality they just like bringing up the same old shit over and over again.

In fact, it should be called Same Old Shit.

Itsmeagainandagain · 29/07/2021 17:14

My TV stays off during the day. I can't stand day time TV it is banned in my home. I don't care about why is the latest fashion or whose marriage has hit the fan. If it was important issues like, why when I sneeze do I dribble some pee, or I'm to embarrassed to poo in my workplace and end up gassy and bloated, you know issues that affects millions of us daily but we don't talk about

Applesonthelawn · 29/07/2021 17:18

It's hideous. The View in the States is similar but tries to be more political. That's hideous too, although I have a real soft spot for Whoopi Goldberg, but the others are just awful. I'd rather chat to my own mates any day.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/07/2021 17:18

@ZaZathecat

Agreed. It used to be ok at the beginning, a bit newsy and chatty, but what I've seen recently is utter dross.
Agree with this - utter dross, and a lot of egos.
NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/07/2021 17:20

@PuppyMonkey

I dunno, I haven’t seen it for a while but surely its whole remit is to be a bit light and gossipy and talking about themselves like a group of friends having lunch.

I’ve seen worse things tbh.

And I've waitressed for groups like that...easily the nastiest customers, getting hammered on wine, bullying the poor lads working by being absolutely disgusting to them and about them, speaking at the waitresses like shit if they can bring themselves to even acknowledge their presence and then demanding to speak to the manager to try and get free desserts/more booze for some made up reason and preferably getting at least one waitress fired as a bonus for doing something like dropping a fork.

My mother loves watching them. But she's a borderline sociopath who physically abused three of her five children, so I acknowledge there is at least an element of prejudice in this - but then again, there was also the time one of those groups also put in a complaint that my skirt was too short and I was deliberately showing off my stocking tops and stiletto heels when dealing with male customers (so they deserved a free 5th bottle of wine, naturally); which would have been difficult when I was wearing a below knee staff uniform skirt, DM shoes and thick black tights.

UrbanRambler · 29/07/2021 17:21

Also, I guess the title of the show is meant to be edgy, but the term "loose women" is pretty insulting and sexist, when you think about what it actually implies. I'm old enough to remember an afternoon chat show called "House Party", which was a mixture of lighthearted girl talk with some cookery/craft/hobby features thrown in. I guess it was aimed at housewives and at times it was a bit bland, but I think it was much better than LW.

Waspsarearseholes · 29/07/2021 17:21

It's just the female equivalent of the stereotypical aging men having bantz with their mates; lads, beer, tits, football, lads. Utter drivel and pish. I've never watched a whole episode and not for 15 years I'd imagine but it sounds like it's got even worse if that's possible!
