What is the WORST pain you've ever had?

Personally, toothache (constant background throb with searing white hot stabs that made me feel like I was being electrocuted in my skull every few seconds) gets the award for absolute worst ever. Two frozen shoulders, and adenomyosis that used to regularly have me puking and fainting and almost hallucinating on the bathroom floor are strong contenders - but miles behind. There is just something about vicious toothache that makes it the worst.

Contemplating this as just back from the dentist, where at least for now, things were ok this time Grin

What about you?

Gallstones accompanied by pancreatitis caused by a stone stuck in the bile duct. I ended up on a morphine drip.

MyNameForToday1980 · 28/07/2021 19:16

I found recovery from a tonsilectomy worse than child birth, a broken arm, tooth abscess or migraine.

Pallisers · 28/07/2021 19:16

bi-manual massage after childbirth when I was haemoraging. never felt anything like it. I thought I was jackknifing off the bed and screaming but dh tells me I was lying flat and moaning slightly.

Beetlebrooker · 28/07/2021 19:16

Migraine, gallstones, kidney stones.

Buddywoo · 28/07/2021 19:16

Childbirth. My cervic wouldn't open quite far enough to let the head through. The doctor, with huge hands, had to push it back during each contraction, during a home birth with no pain relief.

Imicola · 28/07/2021 19:16

Breast abscess (particularly when it was being needle aspirated), horrific to go through not long after childbirth, which was a close second.
@FizzyPink

I’ve got a root canal booked in a few weeks 12 hours before we fly abroad. I might rearrange after reading this confused

I have had a root canal done. It is a doddle. If you are needing one, then the nerve is dying/dead anyway. They just take ages to do.
Oh this is good to know. I actually have zero pain currently but need a filling that is apparently too close to the nerve so I wasn’t really sure what to expect.

Bluehasnoclue · 28/07/2021 19:16

Broke my elbow & dislocated my shoulder at the same time slipping down some steps. It was too much pain for me I think I went into shock and couldn’t actually do anything!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/07/2021 19:17

Dislocated shoulder - not the actual dislocation, the damage done to the rotator cuff following it going back in a week later because the hospital failed to diagnose it. Actually fainted from the pain.

Dislocated rib just above my shoulder blade. Felt like I'd been stabbed.

Almost complete tear of all the ligaments in my ankle.

All of those are equally unpleasant/awful - but the worst two were chronic sinusitis, which made me want to die with the pain in my face, my teeth, my eye and neck, and an undiagnosed abscess on my tonsils, where I couldn't breathe without crying.

StepladderToHeaven · 28/07/2021 19:17

Impacted wisdom tooth. Worse than childbirth.

SMabbutt · 28/07/2021 19:17

Definitely sciatica. I was still in pain after spinal injections and was at the point of begging them to chop my leg off. I've had 5 kids, an epesiotomy, abdominal surgery and 4 wisdom teeth out with one getting infected but nothing comes close to the agony of sciatica.

Nicklebox · 28/07/2021 19:17

Toothache after an infection and extraction for me too had to wait outside in freezing cold until my daughter came to collect me because of covid pain was awful.
The other one was a broken toe, it literary was hanging off and had to be pulled back into position the only pain relief was gas and air.

Mummyoflittledragon · 28/07/2021 19:17

I have chronic pain and fibro. For longevity as I had to wait for hysterectomy, I’d say adenomyosis with endo. Acute pain, I’d say a toss up between the drain in my stomach post surgery 3 (which morphine, cocodamol and ibuprofen barely touched) and a twisted ovary.

Had a couple of out of this world bad migraines. They were awful. Currently have 2 frozen shoulders. And my pain is complete body.

Maggiesfarm · 28/07/2021 19:17

TMJ dysfunction when my jaw muscle went into spasm and became inflamed.

Hot needles going into my eyes, agonising; I was given anaesthetic eye drops for a while but had treatment for chronic viral conjunctivitis which affected the cornea. All well now thankfully.

A botched and unnecessary knee operation when I was 13.

Childbirth was a doddle by comparison.

Guineapigbridge · 28/07/2021 19:17

Kidney infection

User179335678 · 28/07/2021 19:18

Having my epidural put in by a very pissed off anaesthatist who kept jabbing the nerves around my spine…
She didn’t think I should have been offered an epidural by the consultants in charge of my care and was pissed off she couldn’t change my mind…

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 28/07/2021 19:18

@Terrysmyorange

Burst ear drum was up there
Did you find once it had burst though the pain pretty much went straight away? Mine was agony until it burst and then the relief was immense
Livpool · 28/07/2021 19:18
 1. Childbirth - I was induced before I ended up having an EMCS and went from 0-8cm in about 15 minutes and stayed there!
 2. Horrendous toothache when I was pregnant and could only take paracetamol
 3. Sciatica- stuck on the stairs and couldn't move with the pain
ZforZebra · 28/07/2021 19:18

Dry socket

feelingmehtoday · 28/07/2021 19:18

Childbirth without a doubt.

Usernamenotallowed · 28/07/2021 19:18

Kidney stones. Worse than childbirth. Actually threw up and passed out from the pain. Dreading getting another one.

GameSetMatch · 28/07/2021 19:18

An undiagnosed UTI, honestly after two days it was unbearable or Shingles, I had shingles so badly! those two are way worse than a 3rd degree tear in childbirth and a broken ankle.

Conchitastrawberry · 28/07/2021 19:19

Labour/child birth. Was traumatised for months. So much damage from forceps that I had to have surgery and only had more kids because I knew I could have a c section.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 28/07/2021 19:19

Kidney stone and subsequent passing of stone followed by dental abscesses.

Aquagirl19 · 28/07/2021 19:19

Sciatica! Horrendously painful.
