What is the WORST pain you've ever had?

Personally, toothache (constant background throb with searing white hot stabs that made me feel like I was being electrocuted in my skull every few seconds) gets the award for absolute worst ever. Two frozen shoulders, and adenomyosis that used to regularly have me puking and fainting and almost hallucinating on the bathroom floor are strong contenders - but miles behind. There is just something about vicious toothache that makes it the worst.

Contemplating this as just back from the dentist, where at least for now, things were ok this time Grin

What about you?

Frozen shoulder for me. It was the unpredictability of it. I never understood which movement would send searing white pain through my shoulder, and that was followed by hours of full aching pain, afraid to move it, because I didn't understand what movement would set it off.

Child birth wasn't much fun, but at least I understood what the pain was for, and so I felt a degree of "ok, let's do.this, it's unpleasant, but she has to come into the world somehow, so let's crack on." And toothache is rotten (no pun intended), but at least you know that a dentist has a good chance of changing that.

My frozen shoulder seemed unpredictable and pointless

Toss-up between 2 operations;
1)Total knee replacement-fine until the post-op analgesia wore off, then I was very grateful for the morphine drip.
2) Retinal repair-they have to pull the eyeball forward to get to it, and I felt as if I'd walked into a doorknob for about a week.

Trigeminal neuralgia here too - childbirth was a walk in the park compared to that.

Dislocated knee.

However its a toss up between two different part of the incident. The actual accident where I hanging upside down by trapped leg... or when I was being transferred to a stretcher and the St John's Ambulance people strapped me to the stretcher across the knees. It was a good job I had already had gas and air by then (and as DH claims... my arms were already strapped down).

(I was very grateful to the SJA volunteers, but they did cause more damage unfortunately. 10 years, still have issues, knee will never heal properly)

Either childbirth or when I dislocated my knee cap and it ended up floating at the back of my leg, and ripped and over stretched all my leg muscles out of place in the process.

Childbirth for me.
I was shocked and how brutal it was and how little the midwife was willing to do to help.
I’m 100% sure if it was a man he would have had pain relief for a bowling ball ripping through the end of his penis Hmm

I got really bad sinusitis when I was in America and 5 months pregnant. I couldn't take anything other than paracetamol and the flight home was awful, I felt like my head was going to explode

@HavelockVetinari it's actual torture.

Also mastitis. Not the pain of that as such but the pain of baby breastfeeding whilst you have mastitis is like red hot knives to the boob.

Tooth abscess 1000%
I've had four natural births all huge babies and too quick for pain relief (apart from gas) and I'd take that pain any day of the week over toothache.
Labour pain for me was bad but you know the end goal, toothache was trying to get help for yourself then pay £££ for the privilege of no longer being in pain 🙄

This is random but keto rash. I was absolutely covered in it and I have a high pain threshold but was in absolute agony. The doctor diagnosed it as shingles and told me to continue not eating sugar as usual which obviously made it so much worse.
I think it was the combination of the pain and not sleeping for a week but honestly if someone had offered me a pill to die then and there I’d have taken it.

Gallstones or childbirth

The headache from a dural tap after epidural.
Cholecystitis.
Costochondritis..... thought it was a heart attack, and pain relief didn't touch it initially. Really really frightening.

All pale in comparison though to needing a root canal. I remember begging the receptionist for an appointment at 9am and having to wait until 6pm....... Dentist tapped my tooth (didn't hurt) then put the air onto it. They almost had to peel me off the ceiling Blush

Brachial neuritis - which is a post viral attack on the nerve network from shoulder to arm to hand and fingers. Felt as though someone was drilling a hole in my back with a hot poker, whilst someone else had taken a hammer to my elbow. Went on for 2 weeks - couldn’t sleep and only momentary relief was hanging over a bean bag and bizarrely leaning my arms on my cold granite work top. Valium was the only thing that allowed me to cope. Left with numbness and some minor muscle wastage. Was worse than all four of my drug free births put together.

Yet another for trigeminal neuralgia. Before diagnosis I was convinced I was dying. That death didn't sound like a bad option says a lot.

@Shodan

Toothache for me - a root canal filling kind of toothache. No pain relief touched it.

I’ve got a root canal booked in a few weeks 12 hours before we fly abroad. I might rearrange after reading this Confused
