Has anyone had an iPhone actually last 3 years?

I've always had Samsung but 2.5 years ago I had my head turned by the Apple Watch and purchased an XR. In the last month, My phone screen freezes, the battery is shit and it only charges when it wants.

I didn't mind spending loads (if I remember it was £5/6/700) on it because i figured I would keep it for years. At the time, they were advertising three year contracts so I also thought that would be a minimum time.

I thought they had been banned from affecting performance so I don't know why this is happening. I paid the contract off early so maybe o2 are doing something to me 😂

Is it just me or is it common?

I still prefer Samsung but I don't want to waste the money selling my Apple stuff and replacing.

Passed my 2 year old 8 plus on to my parents 18 months ago. It’s still working well with no major issues reported.

I’m almost 4 years in with my 9 plus. I recently have to use my ear plugs for phone calls as one of the speakers no longer work but totally my fault as I drop it constantly! Can’t afford an up grade at the moment as carers allowance is pitiful but will get a new iPhone as soon as I can.

DD's iPhone 6s still works well - my dad uses it. It's at least 5.5 years old. My old 7 had a new battery last year but is fine and that's 5 years old..

My old MacBook is 10 years old and works really well but wouldn't take the latest upgrade of GarageBand, something I use a lot for work. Someone close to me generously treated me to a new one. My iPad is 10 years old and getting rather long in the tooth but it works fine.

I've always had iPhones (since my first smartphone anyway) and they've always lasted many years.

I've currently got an 8 plus which is about 3.5 years old and my husband has a 7 plus which is about 4.5 years old. Both working fine.

Previous models lasted for many years.

There have been known battery issues with some models - have you checked the Apple website for known faults -they usually do a replacement/repair program.

A hard reset also solves many issues, have you tried that?

Although not charging sounds like a hardware problem - have you checked to see if anything is stuck in the charging "socket"? Water damage can also cause problems with the charging "socket" (I don't know the proper name!!) and mean the phone won't charge.

You can take it in to the Apple store and then will take a look for you and see if they can work out what the problem is. You just need to book an appointment. It's free. They'll tell you if it can be fixed and if this will be chargeable.

Tbh if the product has just failed after this short a time and there is no accidental damage I would be going into the Apple Store and arguing that it really should have lasted longer than it has as a premium product...

DH's phone is older than that. He has an iPhone 8 which is over 3 years old. Doesn't have any battery issues or compatibility ones.

Before that he had his previous iPhone for about 3-4 years too - he only changed it because work got him a new one. He didn't actually 'need' one as his worked fine.

DD and I change ours every two years, simply as we like to get a new model DH isn't interested so never chases his work on upgrades.

Yep

I'm sure my 2016 iPhone SE would still be working if I hadn't dropped it in a puddle a few months ago....

Battery life was fine and I was sorry that I was unable to revive it after drying it out in the faint hope I'd get away with it.

I would expect to get 4-5 years out of iPhone. My 6s was 4 years old and I sold it to CEX, it was still working well

Mia184 · 28/07/2021 16:34

About a year and a half ago I switched from an iPhone 5S that I got when it came out in 2013 to an iPhone 11. My dad still uses my old iPad 1.

I thought they had been banned from affecting performance
What made you think that?

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 28/07/2021 17:01

I only upgraded last month for the first time in 4 years

BippityBoppity87 · 28/07/2021 17:14

I have an iPhone 11. 3 year contract, half way through the second year and haven't had any issues. Had an iPhone 6 previously that lasted for about 5 years before I had to get a new phone
