Has anyone had an iPhone actually last 3 years?

I've always had Samsung but 2.5 years ago I had my head turned by the Apple Watch and purchased an XR. In the last month, My phone screen freezes, the battery is shit and it only charges when it wants.

I didn't mind spending loads (if I remember it was £5/6/700) on it because i figured I would keep it for years. At the time, they were advertising three year contracts so I also thought that would be a minimum time.

I thought they had been banned from affecting performance so I don't know why this is happening. I paid the contract off early so maybe o2 are doing something to me 😂

Is it just me or is it common?

I still prefer Samsung but I don't want to waste the money selling my Apple stuff and replacing.

Yep, an SE I got in 2017. It’s heavily used and only just starting to falter.

Siennabear · 27/07/2021 21:45

Try music magpie for refurbished iPhones. You can get them in pristine condition at a fraction of the price.

Ozanj · 27/07/2021 21:45

I buy the plus versions as they have a better chip. And am still using my iphone 8+ that I bought when it was brand new. We always buy the phone new and get sim only contracts

I pass all of mine on to my kids.
I had a 6+ for 2 years and passed it to my daughter who had it for two more. Then I passed her the 7+ that I'd had for two years and she's now had for 1. My husband has a 7 that he's had 4 years and my son still has his old 5s that's probably 6 years old. It's completely shit now … but it still works and functions just.
He's getting an X for his birthday but don't tell him.

My SE is from 2017 and still runs great. It’s one of the old style SEs, I like it because it’s small.

Spinningaround21 · 27/07/2021 21:45

My last one was three years old when replaced. my partner still has the original 2016 SE. Battery life not great but he doesn’t spend ages on it and he is happy with it still.

Astronutter · 27/07/2021 21:46

My first iPhone (4) lasted over 7 years and still worked fine other than a slightly sticky home button. My second (one of the original SE) lasted 5 years before it stopped charging so had to be replaced.

I also still have my original iPad, bought in 2012, which has a fairly terrible battery life now but otherwise still works fine.

Oh wow. Aré a small percentage of us doing something massively wrong then???

I do get a bit Hmm when people say theirs only lasts for a few years and then stops working. I think “what are you doing to it!?” But then I also have tops from Primark that are over seven years old despite reading repeated claims they only last a few washes before they get holes in them which I’ve never understood either![/quote]
I'm the same with habitual phone screen smashers. I've never smashed a phone screen and can't understand how some people keep doing it. I've dropped mine plenty of times and never smashed or cracked a screen. Maybe they just don't use a case or something!

mayblossominapril · 27/07/2021 21:46

My 5 lasted 5 years and would have lasted longer if I hadn’t killed it accidentally.
Ipad is going strong at 6. I expect at least 5 years from a phone or iPad.

Benjispruce5 · 27/07/2021 21:46

Had an iPhone 6 for 6 years( daughter’s cast off) and it was still mainly works apart from sound on videos filmed.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 27/07/2021 21:46

My iPhone 7 was four years old when I accidentally smashed it. Was really annoyed, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it and now I’m having to pay for a new one.

Conchitastrawberry · 27/07/2021 21:48

My husband had an iPhone 6 that he’s had about 5 years. My daughter had an XR which is about 18 months old and it’s started playing up, all the things you mentioned. Its not on contract though so it’s not them sabotaging it 😂😂

echt · 27/07/2021 21:49

I had an iPhone 6 for six years. The only reason I've upgraded is it doesn't support apps I need to use.

Metallicalover · 27/07/2021 21:50

Yes, my husband gave me his old one after 2 years, I've had it 2 years and it's still going strong, battery life is still ok as well xx

FrenchBoule · 27/07/2021 21:51

Second hand 6s. Had it for 4 years and godness knows how long it was used before I got it.

My phones seems to last forever unlike my DH who used to help himself to my old phones and finish them off

abouquetofsharpenedpencils · 27/07/2021 21:51

6.5 years here, still fine

Finzi · 27/07/2021 21:51

@plodalong12 I got a 12 mini 😃

I stopped using cases because it was my battery to overheat. It isn’t required now rain can’t brick an iphone. Have since dropped my phone several times on concrete, accidentally out of a moving car once, and even 8 ft from a softplay. Nothing happened to it. Not even a scratch.

AppleKatie · 27/07/2021 21:53

4 years still perfect- although just got a new battery.

Always use a good quality shock proof case and always buy one with more storage than you think you need. That’s the secret I think.

BarberQueue · 27/07/2021 21:53

Had mine (IPhone 8) nearly four years and still fine with good battery life.

Babdoc · 27/07/2021 21:55

My DDs gave me an iphone as part of my 60th birthday present, and I’ve only replaced it this year (after 5 years) because the battery burst the casing. If I’d replaced the battery as soon as it started deteriorating I’d probably still have the phone, as it still worked. I have a new iphone now, which apparently has a better battery.

Littlegoth · 27/07/2021 21:55

Me! Just 3 years but definitely on its way out.

I’ve had my iPad since November 2012!

132orbust · 27/07/2021 21:55

Yes first iphone lasted 4 years and I got a new one just because I wanted a more up to date one, second one still on the go after 3 years 9 months and still working great.
I love Apple Smile

TakeYourFinalPosition · 27/07/2021 21:56

Mine have all lasted - I tend to give them to someone else. I used my last one for four years and MIL has used it for three more so far. Still in great working order.

What are you breaking on them?
