To ask if your DH/DP would do a booze run?

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 21:09

If you were getting pleasantly pissed in the garden with your friend but ran out of booze, would your DH/DP nip to the corner shop for more wine and some snacks for you?

They aren’t part of the socialising as such - perfectly welcome to join in but see it as you socialising with a friend.

YABU - he wouldn’t go
YANBU - he would go

Yes he would. He'd probably get a variety snacks too.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 27/07/2021 22:06

Oh sweet Jesus…

OP, DH would have done a shop run for me. He’d have probably bought back some nice crisps, rather than making chips or suggested getting a takeaway delivered. He’d have encouraged me to have some fun, even if I felt a bit worse for wear in the morning as it’s so uncommon that I would drink that much now. He’d have then made me drink some water before bed and would have foraged for hash browns/salt and vinegar crisps in the morning. It’s so bloody MN that you have a drink and you’re either lying or an alcoholic and your partner is an enabler. Does nobody just get carried away or decide it’s worth the hangover (until the morning that is)?

I hope you enjoyed your evening with your friend and I’m glad your DH is supportive of you having some fun.

@BackforGood

I don’t actually normally have booze in the house because we don’t drink much!!

I have a 3 yo bottle of port, some kind of pink gin thing that I don’t know the origin of and some cherry brandy from when I made a Black Forest Gateau!

My friend essentially turned up to collect her son with two bottles of Prosecco as I’d kept him for a bit whilst she did some errands.

She sent him home with his dad (who dropped her off) and invited herself in (I love her).

If I’d known I’d have got some in.

I don’t really have any in unless I know I need it, if that makes sense?

Mine cycled to the offie in the pouring rain at the weekend when we ran out but he was involved in the socialising too

TheChampIsHere · 27/07/2021 22:08

Absolutely he would...and has done.

In fact, a willingness to go to the shop to buy whatever is needed to satisfy my sometimes random cravings, never mind my alcohol wants, is a requirement of being my partner. 😂

Beckhamsmetatarsal · 27/07/2021 22:10

My ex would have yes.

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 22:11

I’m very glad that the vast majority have partners who would do the run.

It was such a normal thing for us and I’m now fairly sure my colleagues are just outliers.

WhatWouldTheNeighboursSay · 27/07/2021 22:14

Mine would, plus bring back some nibbles etc.
He'd also pick up/deliver home anyone who was here.

He's a keeper

Crazysheep · 27/07/2021 22:16

Absolutely. In fact it was my birthday recently and was having drinks in my friends garden and he actually walked in with a cake and more booze for us.

Ellie56 · 27/07/2021 22:16

This would never happen in our house as we have a booze stash which is added to every time there is a special offer on at the supermarket. Grin

TheChampIsHere · 27/07/2021 22:19

I don’t know. I’ve know a few mums from school who have made similar comments as your colleagues did. And a few male relatives would definitely be a bit ‘funny’ about this. It’s a sort of jealousy that some men get when their wives/partners are focused on someone else. Couldn’t be arsed with that, life’s too short. I like a nice easy going partner.

PluggingAway · 27/07/2021 22:19

Some people are very weird about people doing nice things for their partner

nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 27/07/2021 22:20

He may even drive us for a McDonald's drive thru.

He's an excellently bad influence in leading others astray.

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 22:22

It’s odd - I love my DH having fun and vice versa.

He said the next day how nice it was hearing us laughing.

He doesn’t go out much but when he does I love it - he comes back all energised and happy - laughing with friends is good for the soul.

FizzyPink · 27/07/2021 22:22

DP would do this without me even asking.

Earlier in the year while indoor socialising wasn’t allowed, I had friends over for a long boozy outdoor lunch. When DP got home from work we were still going and it was getting chilly so he took it upon himself to drive to B&Q to pick up two outdoor heaters so we could carry on having fun without freezing to death.

RampantIvy · 27/07/2021 22:22

Although to be fair, we have a well stocked wine rack and crisp drawer Grin

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 22:23

@nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome

Ooooh! Now I know what to demand next time I disappear into the wine hole!!

OP posts:
HangingOver · 27/07/2021 22:24

No he wouldn't but I'm a recovering alcoholic so it would constitute an staggering barefaced not to mention extremely lazy relapse Grin

bevelino · 27/07/2021 22:25

My dh definitely would do a booze run and would use it as a heaven sent opportunity to get something for himself.

OnTheBoardwalk · 27/07/2021 22:30

@VladmirsPoutine

Apart from anything else 2 bottles would have me in bed for a whole week recovering.
A whole week. You need to change your drinking choices if they make you feel unusually ill
OnTheBoardwalk · 27/07/2021 22:31

Id have gone with me and my drinking partner if in walking distance only because you could get all the goodies once in the shop

Sweptaway14 · 27/07/2021 22:32

100% he'd go!

Sirzy · 27/07/2021 22:34

@dudsville

C) I wouldn't ask. He might, he's a nice guy, but I'd enjoy the stroll with my friend and not interrupt his evening.
This.
Sweptaway14 · 27/07/2021 22:36

I have the odd glass of wine at home maybe 1 or 2 glasses a month.

When me and the girls get together we will do 2 bottles each 100%, we are obviously drunk but we can walk, talk, not at danger of anything other than giggling too much when whichever partners turn it is to pick us all up and get us home safely! We have some good men.

Mammma91 · 27/07/2021 22:37

Yes absolutely he would. And I would do the same for him
