To ask if your DH/DP would do a booze run?

151 replies

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 21:09

If you were getting pleasantly pissed in the garden with your friend but ran out of booze, would your DH/DP nip to the corner shop for more wine and some snacks for you?

They aren’t part of the socialising as such - perfectly welcome to join in but see it as you socialising with a friend.

YABU - he wouldn’t go
YANBU - he would go

If he could walk he might do but if driving prob not as he’d be joining in with the drinking in the garden

AlwaysLatte · 27/07/2021 21:24

He would probably be drinking too in that case so wouldn't be able to drive, but he'd be glad to if not. We don't tend to have separate male/female friends over though, just socialise together.

Ugzbugz · 27/07/2021 21:24

He sounds fun and lovely to me! Single so can't comment but imagine my ex would have!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/07/2021 21:25

Mine would. He'd see it as payment for all the times I pick him up at the rugby club (and drop him off).

Although that's in this house. Shop is 2min walk. Until recently it would have been at least a 30min round trip in the car.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 27/07/2021 21:25

You can get booze delivered where I live - so he'd probably have some brought round.

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 21:25

@BigSandyBalls2015

Definitely a walk - he wasn’t drinking but I’d never have asked him to drive.

It’s less than 2 min to the shop from my house

I wouldn't encourage / support my DH drinking two bottles of wine in one sitting

Chicchicchicchiclana · 27/07/2021 21:28

Mine absolutely would and shop is 10 mins walk away. He would also buy me cigarettes even though he doesn't smoke/doesn't approve.

GreenestValley · 27/07/2021 21:28
@cunningartificer

I drink about twice a month and have two bottles to myself once in a blue moon.

I can assure you it was hilarious.

Plus the chips cancelled a bottle out.
If you drank that little and infrequently, two bottles of wine to yourself would have you passed out and / or throwing up. Not judging at all, I’m a drinker myself, but let’s be honest!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/07/2021 21:30

Depends on whether he had some drink when chilling or not. But yeah. He would a absolutely hop in a car

Branleuse · 27/07/2021 21:30

yes probably if he wasnt busy

Toomuchspinning · 27/07/2021 21:31

@Merryoldgoat

Yep, my partner would and so would I in the reverse. Though two bottles would smash me these days.

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 21:31

@GreenestValley

Why would I lie? I’ve already said I drank it.

I started drinking at 6.30 when my friend arrived and finished at just after midnight.

That’s a large lass an hour - hardly necking it

I have about two glasses of wine a couple of times a month.

I love wine but have zero issue with drinking.

It’s not uncommon for me to go months without alcohol.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/07/2021 21:32

And no. Not jnder the yhumb..he knows I would do the same. Also would have an issue with " letting you drink that much"😑

namcybotwinbloom · 27/07/2021 21:33

We're you dying the next day op?

Mine would of deffo done a booze run. Deffo made us chips too.

He's a keeper.

He'd of done the maccies run the next day also.

As I would of for him.

I went to my friends Bbq recently. We were all out in her back from 3pm till 3am. I was shaking like a shutting dog the next day I was so ill. But it was her birthday, a once in a blue moon for me and we had a ball.

Chailatteplease · 27/07/2021 21:33

Mine would go. I would for him too.

Not saying you are lying. Just that you are probably inadvertently exaggerating either the amount you drank or downplaying your regular drinking.

1 bottle would get most people (esp women) pissed, two they’d be paralytic, never mind an irregular drinker.

However if I’m wrong and your reporting is accurate, you’ve got some stamina.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 27/07/2021 21:35

No, he doesn't like leaving the house, he'd be more inclined to pull out the uber eats app and order something from the coop 😂

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 21:35

@namcybotwinbloom

Jesus yes - I’m no spring chicken now!

But I had a lot of water and a shower before bed and he’d left me two paracetamol by the bed 🤣

I slept until about 10 whilst he did the kids and then I got up and he made me a bacon sandwich.

I was fine then.

I would have a STINKING hangover after 2 bottles of Prosecco

No judgement though and good for your DH

GiraffeWithSwag · 27/07/2021 21:36

I’ve just asked my DH if he would and he just replied “we’d never actually run out!”

soupmaker · 27/07/2021 21:37

Your OH sounds top notch OP. Mine is top notch too - he'd definitely go on a booze run and he'd ask us what snacks he could get us. I'd do the same for him and his pals.

Taliskerskye · 27/07/2021 21:38

Bloody hell
This is so mumsnet
YOU ARE AN ALKY AND HE IS AN ENABLER
HTH

Marmite27 · 27/07/2021 21:38

Last time I did this mine managed to magic up a bottle of Prosecco a bottle of vodka and a Chinese takeaway as if by magic Grin

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 21:38

I think it’s interesting how different booze affects people.

I was drinking Prosecco - I can seemingly drink masses of that and not be paralytic - I don’t know why.

However ‘normal wine’ I cannot drink more than 2 glasses before feeling nauseous and I’m drunk after 3 small G&Ts
