To ask if your DH/DP would do a booze run?

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 21:09

If you were getting pleasantly pissed in the garden with your friend but ran out of booze, would your DH/DP nip to the corner shop for more wine and some snacks for you?

They aren’t part of the socialising as such - perfectly welcome to join in but see it as you socialising with a friend.

YABU - he wouldn’t go
YANBU - he would go

6 hours x 2 bottles is 12 flute size glasses,so one medium-large glass per hour.

That's really not horrific. Also yes, chips cancel at least a bottle out.

GroggyLegs · 27/07/2021 21:39

It was a lovely thing to do. You're very lucky.

I don't think my DH would. He's not an arsehole or anything, but he would laugh & say no

Marmite27 · 27/07/2021 21:39

He lobbed them at us from a distance though, he’s not daft enough to get too close Wink

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 21:40

@Taliskerskye 🤣🤣🤣

@Marmite27 that’s genius! Chinese would’ve been fantastic!

Yes my DP would 100% do this and has before.

He's also gone and retrieved the car for me when I've met friends for lunch / one drink and it's ended up boozy.

He always gets up and fetches hangover essentials when necessary.

And as for your 2 bottles OP I could easily get through 2 over a lengthy evening with food and water. No judgement here.

Faevern · 27/07/2021 21:44

@GreenestValley I rarely drink, I can go weeks without alcohol, yet me and my BFF can sink two bottles of wine and most of a bottle of gin in one night and still lock up the house and not pass out. I’m sure it’s the food and atmosphere plus it usually about 8 or 10 hours drinking

VladmirsPoutine · 27/07/2021 21:44

Apart from anything else 2 bottles would have me in bed for a whole week recovering.

Neondisco · 27/07/2021 21:44

@GiraffeWithSwag

I’ve just asked my DH if he would and he just replied “we’d never actually run out!”
Now that's a keeper!
namcybotwinbloom · 27/07/2021 21:46

@Taliskerskye

Bloody hell This is so mumsnet YOU ARE AN ALKY AND HE IS AN ENABLER HTH
Hahahaha this made me laugh.
Faevern · 27/07/2021 21:46

Drinking and talking and laughing I should say.

And yes my DP would replenish supplies.

Aria2015 · 27/07/2021 21:48

Yes and he has. I usually send some begging text for more booze and then he'll magically appear with it about 10 minutes later! He's not a big drinker but he's always been supportive of my drinking 🤪.

CandyLeBonBon · 27/07/2021 21:49

@Merryoldgoat

However if I’m wrong and your reporting is accurate, you’ve got some stamina.

I think it’s interesting how different booze affects people.

I was drinking Prosecco - I can seemingly drink masses of that and not be paralytic - I don’t know why.

However ‘normal wine’ I cannot drink more than 2 glasses before feeling nauseous and I’m drunk after 3 small G&Ts

I'm the same on prosecco op! If it were red wine I'd have been calling god down the big white telephone all night!!
bakingdemon · 27/07/2021 21:50

Nope, he's teetotal so I wouldn't ask him to do that

Christmasfairy2020 · 27/07/2021 21:50

No but then again I don't drink I'd be sending him for tea bags

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 21:51

@CandyLeBonBon

Red wine - nooooooooo

Bloody hell, it's escalated to AA online pretty damn quick, hasn't it!?

user1473878824 · 27/07/2021 21:56

Oh god this is so Mumsnet. Everyone assuming your husband is clearly an abusive twat punishing you for seeing friends into my god you have an alcohol problem.

BackforGood · 27/07/2021 21:56

I voted no, and I wouldn't for dh either, but this is because I can't imagine the scenario.

We've always got wine in, so if we finished the bottle I'd got out and the bottle the friend brought not that I could continue drinking that much but just IF we'd just drink something else from the house.

Plus, if one of us had a friend round for a long night in that didn't involve the other, then the other would either be away or out that night so not 'on hand' , or, if they were in would likely have had a bath and be in PJs by then, so no, I wouldn't go out for him and I wouldn't expect him to go out for me at that point.

How strange - me too! I thought it was just me... I can drink a lot of Prosecco and feel drunk but fine, and yet half the amount of anything else would have me feeling horrendous and knock me off my feet. No way could I drink 2 bottles of normal wine, but bubbles are no problem! Sound like you had fun Smile
LarsErickssong · 27/07/2021 21:57

I'm the same OP, I drink 2 glasses of wine every other weekend (with Sunday lunch at my parents) but on a special night I could sink two bottles and not be paralytic, drunk yes but still able to get myself to bed.

Fwiw my DP would definitely go to the shop for more, and order us a takeaway/cook and then do a maccies run the next morning!

Standrewsschool · 27/07/2021 22:01

I would probably walk to the shop with my friend.

HadEnoughOfBears · 27/07/2021 22:02

YANBU Yes
He has done before.

(also I've popped out for beers for him)

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/07/2021 22:02

I think the drunkenness also depends on a company and mood. I can drink way better when I am having fun compared to when I am not or am in a bad mood. In the patter case I get deunk on much less interesgly.
Can do 2 bottles of red ok. I eat and drink water with all of it 😁 Bow to me you prisecco lightweights 😂
Just kidding

Ragwort · 27/07/2021 22:03

Yes mine would, but I'm with Giraffe - my DH ensures that the wine/beer stocks are constantly full Blush .... don't think we've ever 'run out of booze'.

RampantIvy · 27/07/2021 22:05

No. We don't live near enough any shops to do this.
