No washing machine at centreparcs

SuperCaliFragalistic · 26/07/2021 22:39

I'm at centreparcs for a week. Someone else paid for this holiday which I'm very grateful for. However our 4 bed (sleeps 8) Lodge doesn't have a washing machine and there are no laundry facilities on site. I know its a massive rip off anyway, and I know I should have checked the details and packed more stuff, but seriously? Now I'm expected to rinse my knickers in the sink after paying 4k for this this holiday! It takes the piss.

@NellePorter

I always wash whilst on holiday, I've done a load today, it saves it being a massive chore when we get home!
Same. I have teens and I do not have enough clothes for them to have a new outfit every day for a week (and you can guarantee they would want to wear the same thing over again) and I don't want to lug that amount of stuff on holiday with me so I always wash when away. It takes seconds to put on and seconds to out out to dry and saves going home to piles of dirty washing which undoes the relaxation of holiday in seconds!

I have only ever been to CP for a day but I would also expect a washing machine or at least washing facilities for that kind of money at a place where kids are outdoors and get dirty.

@LittleBearPad

Doing laundry is not my idea of a relaxing family break

Baffles me why people insist on doing washing while on holiday.

Does it not just make it "same shit, different location"?

But it’s not hard shoving a load of washing in on a wash and dry cycle, going home without a heap of laundry is much better.

Completely agree.

I'd much rather spend a couple of minutes shoving a wash in a machine on holiday, than come home with 5 x 7 days of dirty stuff for the whole family.

Azilliondegrees · 27/07/2021 07:53

So strange all these people saying they wouldn’t do a wash on holiday. We do pack enough clothes but generally want to wash swimmers/beach stuff, and we had one torrential day last holiday, and I also went horse riding so wanted to get that stuff clean. DH also went for a few runs and a fairly long cycle so I don’t want to transport his stinky kit home after several days languishing in a heap.

And then of course, what if the child voms on the way? Are you meant to just hold on to rancid vomit for a week? Or what if the baby poos out of the nappy? Just throw the clothes away?

It is completely bizarre the lengths some of you will go to to assert yourselves as good planners and organised people like it’s some kind of badge of honour.

Like you I still come home with a whole day’s washing because we don’t wash everything on holiday, but I do welcome the chance to wash stuff that’s in need of it!

Sparklingbrook · 27/07/2021 07:53

I don’t wash my towels between each use at home. But would want to wash swimming stuff and towels between uses on holiday. Especially if I’d been in a pool with chlorine in or on the beach. 🤷‍♀️

YANBU
Any self catering I have ever been to has a washing machine.

Very handy when you have children.
I would certainly have done a wash whild away rather than come home with bags to do.

MaggieFS · 27/07/2021 07:57

Yes, me too. But the dirty - possibly soiled - clothes, you keep them like that until you go home?

TheGenealogist · 27/07/2021 07:57

@JoborPlay

YANBU.

All the holiday parks I've ever been to in Europe have a laundrette or something. What if you your child gets a sickness bug? Or unusually wets the bed? Nappy leak on the pram suit?

This happened to us at CP, a child threw up in their bed. Lovely. We stripped the bed, left the stuff outside, and the housekeeping team came and removed it in the morning, bringing clean bedding with them.
ineedaholidaynow · 27/07/2021 08:00

If your child wets the bed you get housekeeping to change it.

What do people do if they stay in a hotel? You don’t tend to get washing machines in your hotel room

JoborPlay · 27/07/2021 08:00

And if they'd thrown up on the carseat? Or the pram? Or their outdoor coat? I bet housekeeping don't replace those.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/07/2021 08:01

@DeathByWalkies

Can't you pop to the supermarket and pick up some cheap knickers?
I'd do this. £5 for a multipack of knicks.

Better than washing your drawers on your holiday.

Hotels have a laundry service. Bag it up, stick it outside and they’ll collect and return.
ineedaholidaynow · 27/07/2021 08:02

@JoborPlay and if you were staying in a hotel what would you do?

icedcoffees · 27/07/2021 08:03
@JoborPlay and if you were staying in a hotel what would you do?
Every single hotel I've ever stayed in has a laundry service.

gratedbeetroot · 27/07/2021 08:03

We go for a week every year but I get the impression that most people go for the weekend or 4 nights so it wouldn’t make sense to put washing machines in the lodges. I’m another one who wouldn’t do washing on holiday anyway. We just take enough clothes for our family for the week, the same as if we go abroad. We also don’t cook - we eat out every night as that’s part of the holiday for us.

Sparklingbrook · 27/07/2021 08:04

I think if you are staying in a hotel it’s a safe bet there’s not going to be a washing machine next to the safe and mini fridge.
So I’m not sure that’s relevant here anyway.

Notonthestairs · 27/07/2021 08:04

I don't think many people that go to CP for a week. We've done the usual 3 or 4 nights and it's been fine.

Sparklingbrook · 27/07/2021 08:05

Are there dishwashers in the lodges at CP?

There are in hte ones we've stayed in - but not sure if they're in all classes of accommodation in all villages.

It'll say on the website.

These people do (or used to do) a laundry service for Longleat guests

MirandaMarple · 27/07/2021 08:09

I often swill my knickers through on any any priced holiday.

Sparklingbrook · 27/07/2021 08:09

Ah ok, that's weird. They don't think you should wash up but they also don't think you need to wash your clothes. Interesting.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/07/2021 08:12

I thought there was some sort of laundry service at Longleat (certainly pre COVID times).

But I still can’t imagine if you are there for a weekend washing towels everyday.

SmokeyDevil · 27/07/2021 08:12

@WiddlinDiddlin

How do you not know, at sufficiently adult enough to pay for a 4K holiday... to check if there are laundry facilities or pack enough pants for a week!

Washing your pants for a week will teach you to be better prepared in future!

I question this every time I see an adult ask a similar question. More money than sense springs to mind...

Why you'd want to do laundry on holiday surprises me too. And it's not like knickers take up a lot of space. Confused
