Born in the late 80s, as a teen I had to endure those huge baggy jeans that got soaking wet all the way up whenever you stepped in a puddle. Low rise jeans were also a bastard. However, I do believe these pale in comparison to the thong bikini.

Now admittedly I have never worn one. But even just looking at one gives me thrush. Not to mention the waxing time. The chafing. The bared all cellulite.

AIBU to think thong bikinis are just the absolute most 'thank god I'm not in THAT generation's fashion item?'

I don't care how slim/toned/waxed a person is. I still don't want to see your arse hanging out in public.

The dreaded thong bikini bottoms. They look horrible and so uncomfortable. I don't think they look good on anyone!

I would wear one, i wear thongs as underwear most days. Dh might have something to say about it and the fact I've only just realised your supposed to shave your arse cheeks I would probably be captured and have frantic calls to zoos seeing which one had lost a gorilla.

I saw a lady of a certain age on the beach recently who was rather wide of hip shall we say. She was wearing a thong bikini but I unfortunately looked over as she bent over. That sight is forever burnt on my retinas!

Fashion I see as something designed to get you to part with money and replace things you could wear for a while more. Smaller clothes mean less material is used (probably) yet prices are not smaller. Sleeves disappeared from dresses about 15 years ago as an example.

I follow a few body positive accounts on Instagram and the thong bikini is definitely 'in' at the moment! I don't get it to be honest, it basically just looks like the bikini is 5 sizes too small, same at the front as well, literally a teeny tiny triangle of fabric covering the fanny. One false move and everything would be out! It looks so uncomfortable as well, they are stuck soooo far up the bum!

DD has a Brazilian cut one which she only wears on holiday abroad. To be honest most of her bikinis end up up her bum anyway (unless they are shorts ones she wears for sporty stuff) so why not?
Bums are a big thing these days (pardon the pun) and having a flat bottom is apparently unacceptable, just check out any teens photos and you will see the sticky out bum pose

I don’t care if I sound like a prude, it’s more arse than I want to see from anyone.

I still do wear thongs (occasionally, even more occasionally since Covid as been hardly anywhere) but it’s just a bit much for me in public.

On a side note, I've never understood why a bit of VPL is considered such a crime.

I have at least 5 longsleeved dresses in my wardrobe at this moment, two of which I bought in the last 12 months. Where are you shopping?! This is not to mention the short-sleeved ones.

I’m old so really don’t get this thong fashion. Buttocks are comical, they’re not sexy; they’re two rounded pieces of flesh that look even worse when they have a piece of string travelling up the middle.
Watching Love Island with DD (guilty pleasure) they all wear them, apart from one girl the other week who wore a ‘normal’ bikini bottom and looked sooo much better in it. And the under-boob tops!! They just look like extra fat is sticking out.

Thongs look horrible on anyone. Who wants a piece of uncomfortable string rubbing up against their butt hole? Don't know how anyone wears them and I have no desire to see anyone's backside in a thong bikini. Some people need some self respect.

Agree the 80’s style high leg bikinis are also awful. Weren’t flattering then and aren’t now.

Never tried a thong bikini, it just looks uncomfortable.
I usually go to beaches where costumes are optional as it feels so natural to have sun and sea all over. But where covering up is still required I go for comfort, not show.

In my day it was tits or legs, never both. My DD16 doesn’t like to wear very revealing clothes but some of them , at 14, 15 even She went to a party the other day and her friend was wearing denim hot pants (I have larger knickers) and a black cross over bra type thing with over knee black boots. It was really over the top. Some of her friends take the p because DD wears things that they feel dont showcase enough flesh - And she’s not exactly in a Burka,
