Random car parked on my drive!

dh has just come back from work and parked across the road. I asked why he hasn't parked on our driveway and he said he thought we had visitors.
I've gone out and there's a random car on our driveway! Knocked on neighbours door but they don't know who's it is. (They are really nice and we get on with them so they would have told them to move if it was anything to do with them).
AIBU to move the car and block them in?

Isn't telling people to fuck off also against the rules? Personal attacks and all that

I believe it's only abusive if aimed at a particular person, rather than a random pissed off remark.

But do carry on busybodying.

I came on here looking for an update to the parking thread yesterday (we were out last night). Much to my delight I've found this one, it has to be the best and has given me a right laugh. Thanks, OP.

RustyBear · 24/07/2021 11:32

@Fiddliestofsticks

Is this really a classics worthy thread? Classical nominations are getting a bit silly now.

The sister calling up to say they were being talked about is... odd. It would be different officers on shift by that point, so no one there to tell the story. If it's a small village police station, no one would have been there last night so the police would have been sent from somewhere else.
Was OP texting the sister last night telling her what was going on? Why would she assume it was them? All getting a bit silly.

So a new shift comes on duty having absolutely no idea what happened the previous night? Presumably the night shift left a report. Also presumably the report included OP's address, which her BIL would have recognised....
NeedNewKnees · 24/07/2021 11:37

Thanks for such a good laugh!

Noterook · 24/07/2021 12:07

Mean girls, are we back at school hun?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/07/2021 12:09

So this chap (let’s say Bob for the sake of confusion) who came to see you last night is your neighbour

Tut Tut - No Howshould that is adding to the confusion ! Earlier post....

Problem with the head gasket all sorted now. Car should be good for when you get back from holiday. Give us a call if any problems.
@Howshouldibehave

He's our actual neighbour who lives just down the road. He said friends with the people who are actually on holiday (they live 4 doors up).
So instead of parking the car 4 doors up from us they had parked on our driveway, our neighbours drive had 2 cars on it already and the spaces across the Road were full I'm assuming.
They had just got the wrong drive in end, feeling a little guilty now. Blush
I don't think you should feel guilty.

They called the police and lied to them saying they had already knocked on your door.

That was ridiculous. They should have just come and knocked, apologised and explained the situation to you.

I wouldn't be feeling guilty about anything in your position. They made a mistake and dealt with it very immaturely.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/07/2021 12:29

But if the Police asked (quite reasonably ) Why did you park on your drive knowingly blocking in a strangers car OP will have to admit canvassing the opinion of the might of MN.

😂 I’m sure the police will have heard worse! Besides, there are double yellows on the road so where else could they park but on their own drive? 🤷🏻‍♀️
007Stocko · 24/07/2021 12:41

So what was the outcome of the car ?!?!?! I would have contacted the local Police to ask if it had been reported stolen as no one knew anything about it.

Fiddlersgreen · 24/07/2021 12:50

@007Stocko have you read the thread?!

007Stocko · 24/07/2021 13:16

@Fiddlersgreen I have now!!! Literally only just joined and hadn't noticed the absolutely minuet paging bit! Confused Fantastic thread though Grin

@UftUft

So my sister has just rung, BIL has gone into work this morning (hes police) and they are talking about the weirdos with the hazmat suit from last night... she asked if it was us. I'm going to take them round some biscuits or something later, just to apologise for the weirdness.
Hahahahaa - this cracked me up! I'm just wondering if your sister/BIL just assumed it was you because of the weirdness with the hazmat suit, or because they saw the address and knew it was your house - if the former, then that's brilliant! (The latter would be a bit more boring)

Bloody idiots who phoned the police in the first place though, rather than just knocking on the door!

newnortherner111 · 24/07/2021 14:18

So there is one police force that takes drink driving seriously? Or has the resources to consider it? So let's hope the other 42 can do so.

Anyway, thank you OP for keeping many people entertained.

HyggeTygge · 24/07/2021 14:23

The fact that it was either:

 • a genuine mistake and they really did have permission to park on a driveway, just got the wrong one - or -
 • a situation where they could easily have passed it off as said genuine mistake even if they were actually taking the piss

makes me wonder why they didn't just cheerily knock and say so to you? I know it's a bit embarrassing but surely better (for them) for you to think they got the wrong house than they are just CFs parking wherever they feel like?

viques · 24/07/2021 14:29

Make sure they are shop biscuits. I wouldn’t want to eat biscuits baked by someone who needs to wear hazmat in their own house!
christyt114 · 24/07/2021 14:29

I think this is my favourite parking thread ever. Especially with the BIL update about the police wondering what the hazmat suit was all about! 😂😂

yellowsubmarines · 24/07/2021 14:30

Don't feel bad OP. All they had to do was knock on your door and explain the situation to you or DH. Instead they dithered about for hours and then lied when phoning the police to come knock on your door. This is all their fault from start to finish.

I am laughing about DH answering the door to the police in his suit and the police gossiping about it this morning. Grin At least your BIL works there and can explain. I'm sure you gave them something to smile about for years to come.

I hope your neighbour feels suitably ashamed this morning for not directing his guests where exactly to park, knocking on your door when the mistake was realised, and leaving his guests to phone the police instead of working it out with his neighbour.

Faevern · 24/07/2021 14:51

They may have thought they stumbled upon a murder scene, no one answering the door and your DH in a hazmat suit, cleaning up after burying you under the patio Grin

SofiaMichelle · 24/07/2021 14:51

Police cautioned them for wasting time.

Add this to the list of things that definitely did not happen.

What does the OP need to come back for? The situation was resolved, what more are you expecting her to update on?

CoachBeach · 24/07/2021 15:06

@UftUft Don’t feel bad about giving the police a laugh.
I can’t believe they called the police before knocking, they should be done for wasting police time, genuinely. You shouldn’t have moved it, you didn’t know where they were. I would assume neighbours up the road don’t know they were using their space….. I would pop a note through the door. “Thanks for the parking whilst you’re away, no xx (cheeky neighbour)” They’ve kept you up late as well.
