Random car parked on my drive!

UftUft · 23/07/2021 20:39

dh has just come back from work and parked across the road. I asked why he hasn't parked on our driveway and he said he thought we had visitors.
I've gone out and there's a random car on our driveway! Knocked on neighbours door but they don't know who's it is. (They are really nice and we get on with them so they would have told them to move if it was anything to do with them).
AIBU to move the car and block them in?

A wondrous update.

Ha I loved this thread. Brilliant. Cannot believe they called the police. Absolutely wetting myself that your dh had the suit on at the door.

I have had to call the local police when someone blocked my drive and I had to get out in an emergency and they came out. They didn't really do much but the minute the police car arrived the owners of the van blocking me in magically appeared from nowhere to move it, this was despite me doing sad face on the driveway for about 30 mins previously and no sign of anyone.

Howshouldibehave · 24/07/2021 08:06

I’m amazed the police came out without establishing more details (like, they’d parked on a strangers drive!) and told them to bloody knock or wait till the morning.

Who was the other bloke who came round afterwards? Was he with them? Where had they all been for the evening and why didn’t they just park there?!

balloonsintrees · 24/07/2021 08:13

@MNHQ worth moving into Classics? Has caused much Friday night merriment....

@ReginaaPhalange

Ooooooo I like the suggestion of calling 101 with the suspicion of a stolen car dumped on your drive
I did this and in what can only be described as the weirdest week of my life, ended up in the middle of a special forces counter terrorism investigation. Do not recommend.
AlfonsoTheMango · 24/07/2021 08:23

@JesusIsAnyNameFree

100% block them in. Then set it on fire.
Steady on.

Well done OP many before have started and not finished and left us hanging on edge of cliff. Flowers

Goodness, @andadietcoke, tell us more!

UftUft · 24/07/2021 08:37

I dont think they came because of the actual situation, more for the fact that they were making sure they weren't drink driving. We did apologise that it got so far, we probably should have just gone out.
Anyway, I'm sure they'll get the right house next time.

What did they say to you Uft?
We’re they annoyed with YOU?

UftUft · 24/07/2021 08:39

@andadietcoke

Who was the chap who came round afterwards to apologise? Had he spent the evening with the CF car people?

I don’t get why they didn’t park where they’d all gone for the evening?

UftUft · 24/07/2021 08:45

@Howshouldibehave

He's our actual neighbour who lives just down the road. He said friends with the people who are actually on holiday (they live 4 doors up).
So instead of parking the car 4 doors up from us they had parked on our driveway, our neighbours drive had 2 cars on it already and the spaces across the Road were full I'm assuming.
They had just got the wrong drive in end, feeling a little guilty now. Blush

The other man from earlier has just come round and apologised, he didn't know they'd called the police and he felt stupid.

Good. With any luck he's phoned them and given them an earful.

RevolvingPivot · 24/07/2021 08:46

Can you park outside your house. Not on the drive but on the road? Just curious why them or you didn't do that.

Terhou · 24/07/2021 08:47

Don't feel guilty, OP. They should have checked which drive they were supposed to be in, and should have had the balls to knock on the door and apologise.

FeatheredHope · 24/07/2021 08:47

I’m just jealous of your local police. On a Friday night around here you’d be hard pressed to get them coming out for anything less than a murder...

UftUft · 24/07/2021 08:49

@RevolvingPivot

There are double yellow lines to stop cars parking as it was causing problems.

I'm not surprised. You knew before 11pm it was a mistake with the drive, yet an hour later they were lingering outside so your husband donned a hazmat and you switched the lights off rather than simply letting them out.

They made a mistake. You knew it was a mistake. You didn't have to prolong it for mumsnet cheers.

Ah so you had to park on the drive? I thought you were doing it as a "joke"

Ah, right. Sorry-am overly invested in this now!

So this chap (let’s say Bob for the sake of confusion) who came to see you last night is your neighbour and also friends with the people who have gone on holiday (Sally and Steve) who had said their driveway could be used by CF drivers?

Does that mean Sally and Steve’s driveway is empty? Did CF drive past that and just choose yours despite it having a car on it? Or was sally and Steve’s driveway full, despite them saying it could be used??

Where did CF actually go for the evening?

PicsInRed · 24/07/2021 08:51

They had just got the wrong drive in end, feeling a little guilty now.

They literally called the cops on you and lied about you to them. Why on earth would you apologise or feel bad? Fake calls to police can be dangerous, they had their caution coming, at the very least.

RevolvingPivot · 24/07/2021 08:52

@Howshouldibehave the op drive didn't have a car on her drive otherwise they would have blocked the op in and been able to drive off home later???
