Is this enough for a 3 year old’s birthday?

We are getting him:

Scooter
Magnadoodle
Bigjigs battery operated train
Playfoam (a bit like playdough, but less messy apparently!)
Most likely a new book

That’s it from us.

He’s getting a Tonie box from one set of grandparents and a playmobil set from the other set.
He’ll also get gifts from my brother and my DP’s brother and sister.

I always feel like there’s so much pressure to buy a lot of gifts, I don’t know why Blush

Some really horrible, sneery comments on this thread. It's a fine amount of presents. Less would be fine too. And more would be fine also. For those banging on about the environment, I hope none of you have kids, since adding more humans to the population is probably the most damaging thing you can do to the planet.

WaltzForDebbie · 23/07/2021 07:47

Those saying it's too much, surely it depends. Some families get stuff as needed and then just extras fir bdaýs. Others save stuff so bdays Xmas etc. Also some families (eg. Ours) get hardly anything from other relatives.

3luckystars · 23/07/2021 07:56

Sorry I was one of the people joking, I should not have done that. I just couldn’t understand you posting the list of gifts here and why anyone would do that, but I understand everyone is different and I should have stayed out of it.
I hope it is a lovely birthday and that is loads for a 3 year old and I’m sure they will love it. Sorry again.

It's highly likely that people do but my youngest is 23 and I don't think the environment message was like it is now. Not something I ever thought about. I've always tried to recycle and not be wasteful

Anyway I still think some gifts with a savings account for the future is a better outlook

I don’t as I’m infertile. Can I continue banging on about the environment please?

Definitely enough. My DD turns three at the start of August and I've gotten her a dolls house and some Sylvanian families bits to go in it. She will also get money from family which I use throughout the year to get her bits and bobs.

Far too much OP.

When I was little I got a jumper woven on our own handloom with wool from a stray sheep, and a swift kick to the vagina 🤷‍♀️

No wonder the world is full of people like you, consuming consuming consuming. I had to share my jumper with my sister,it was our combined birthday and Christmas present for the year.

No kicks for us... Sad

I'm sure your three year old will be so happy with those presents. Bear

I personally don't think it's too many presents at all. They're gifts that will be used and not just a few times either. I would also add in the book as they're always brilliant presents.

You buy what you want for your child when it comes to birthdays and Christmas. Everyone does things differently. Some buy loads and others not as much. It also varies throughout the year with how many items are bought for children also as some tend to stockpile somewhat at Christmas etc. Nothing wrong with either way as everyone's family is different.

If you see something else that you think would be liked then add it. I wouldn't say it's loads and OTT and nothing wrong with special presents on birthdays. It is a magic day for them. Hope you all have a lovely day! Star

HogwartsForever11 · 26/07/2021 13:56

It is less than I used to get as a child and probably less than I would buy a child but who cares as long as you and DS are happy!

Perceptions probably depend on how many of your family/friends will be gifting and how generous they are, whether you also buy things throughout the year, and what your child is interested in.
For example my parents used to gift us pyjamas, clothes, toiletries etc and buy less through the year. And I was a big reader as a child and would get dozens of books, all of which I would read and would get recycled to my younger siblings and later charity shops.

AmyDudley · 26/07/2021 14:05

More than enough. Gift giving has got out of control. I see lots of threads on here at Christmas about children being ungrateful, or barely looking at their presents, or crying and getting worked up over presents. And it is children who have been given a mountain of presents and a re totally overwhelmed.

How much stuff does a 3 year old actually need ? You have bought him lots of presents and he's getting gifts from family, he'll be very happy with that. No need to give him a life sized robotic camel, a deposit for a bungalow, and that MN favourite without which no birthday is complete - a spa day - as well.
