Hi all. Name changed as don't want real life hatred.

We've been isolating for 8 days as DH tested positive. We count the 10 days from when he first showed symptoms. Were sending DC1 and DC2 back to school tomorrow.

However just lateral flowed them and DC2 is stongingly positive. We're tempted to send DC1 to school as it's their last couple of days of year 6.

Is this horribly irresponsible? Should we sit out another 10 days as a family? Sposed to be going to Devon on Sunday.

If we should send DC1 to school what should we tell them?

IBU - should do more isolation NBU should carefully proceed with life.

Lucky Devon. Another covid carrying family on their way!

Except they aren’t. OP has already stated that she has cancelled the holiday. Read the FT before making comment, hey? Hmm

m0therofdragons · 21/07/2021 13:54

Wow, do you hate their year 6 friends and teachers?

Demelza82 · 21/07/2021 13:55

What is wrong with you?

ChainJane · 21/07/2021 13:56

@Coronanamechangie

Ok. Cancelled Devon. Booked PCR for both kids. If DC1 is negative will send to last day of school. I think of PCR is negative after 10 days off isolation this is not irresponsible.

It's not pedantic arguing. I am trying to follow the rules and do what's best for all.

You're definitely not trying to "do what's best for all." You are trying to do what you think is easiest for you and couldn't care less about the countless other families whose holidays you could be ruining.
Maggiesfarm · 21/07/2021 14:04

@Hoppinggreen

You will get a mixed bag of responses but if I am totally honest I wouldn’t send to school but then I would do another test on Friday and if neg would go to Devon
Me too.
Tal45 · 21/07/2021 14:04

I can't imagine how selfish it would be to send your child to school to potentially ruin the whole classes holidays knowing their sibling is probably positive. You're not remotely interested in doing what's best for anyone but yourself.

I would tell the school your dc has had a positive lateral flow and see what they say to do instead of asking on an internet forum and hoping people will give you the answer you want.

If you don't want 'real life hatred' perhaps you should be considerate and unselfish.
AuntMargo · 21/07/2021 14:06

WOW, your being incredibly selfish just thinking about it !!

YeokensYegg · 21/07/2021 14:07

Of course don't send him and don't go to Devon.

Are there still a lot of people not vaccinated or are people still getting sick even when vaccinated?

withgraceinmyheart · 21/07/2021 14:08

Positive dc stays home, everyone else can finish their isolation on day 10. People may not like it, but yes you can send the not positive sibling to school. In practice i think you should give them a pcr test before you send them in at the very least, if not keep them off to be fair to other families.

You can’t take the positive child to Devon. Either one parent stays home with them or you cancel.

Saladcrab · 21/07/2021 14:08

You will show positive for up to 30 days later I did on a pcr and doctors said I didn’t have it again

pastafeend · 21/07/2021 14:10

You are getting a hell of a lot of stick from people I can only guess do not understand the guidance. When DC1 isolation ends it ends. They do not have to isolate any longer simply because DC2 is now potentially positive.

People can't resist the opportunity to have a go, even without the facts to back them up.

BungleandGeorge · 21/07/2021 14:11

You’re on day 7 of isolation. You’re planning to send your kids back on Thursday- day 8. You’re obligated to isolate until 12.01 on Sunday. It’s illegal to send them back to school tomorrow or Friday, there’s no argument about that. Talk of testing is irrelevant to whether you can send a child back to school.

lifehappened · 21/07/2021 14:13

😂😂😂😂 if it was isolation due to being pinged I might say screw it. It's bloody positive test tho so you would be such a shit person to send them in.

AubergineParmigiana · 21/07/2021 14:13

I would be mightily fucked off if my DC was in the same class and our own family holiday was in jeopardy as a result of your selfishness

Crowtooyo · 21/07/2021 14:15

Do NOT send either child to school.. just ve responsible and keep them off. What a way to potentially ruin the start of the summer holidays for all of those children in their class.

pastafeend · 21/07/2021 14:16

It's 10 days from the onset of symptoms. I'm not sure why OP has confused matter with the 8 day thing? I assumed they meant the test was positive at day 2 which would leave 8 days to isolate.
Crowtooyo · 21/07/2021 14:16

Also, doesn't your child (and you) need to isolate for 10 days from last day of contact when test came through? Plus doesn't day 1 start the following day.

Either way it won't change my mind. Don't send them in. Purely selfish

pastafeend · 21/07/2021 14:16

A shit person for following the official guidance?

I wound say you are more of a shit person for calling someone who has not broken any rules tbh.

Hlgwsbytktu · 21/07/2021 14:17

If your child was in my child's class and I found out you had done this I would be absolutely furious. It is so so irresponsible.

BungleandGeorge · 21/07/2021 14:25

@pastafeend. From the NHS website. I can’t find a reference for what happens if second family member tests positive but it doesn’t make any difference to whether they can go to school. They can’t, she says they are on day 8 of isolation since the original case symptoms started in the original post. This family have covid, they need to isolate according to the law- its there for a reason. There’s quite a good chance they will pass it on in school

How long you need to self-isolate

If someone you live with tests positive, your self-isolation period includes the day their symptoms started (or the day they had the test, if they do not have symptoms) and the next 10 full days.

But it is correct according to the guidance. OP and her DH can both return to work as soon as the original isolation ends, for example.
roguetomato · 21/07/2021 14:28

I think this thread shows why we are in this situation. People arguing what's legal requirement or not. Virus doesn't care if someone had isolated 10 days from onset of symptoms or from positive test. I think if people started to prioritise how not to spread when in doubt, maybe we can get out of mess quicker.

Saoirse82 · 21/07/2021 14:28

You can't be serious OP! Your post made me really angry, what a vile selfish person you are! You should be ashamed even asking this, no wonder you've done a name change!

No, she says she is on day 8 from the day of the original test, which was on day 2 of symptoms - 10 days altogether.

There are LOTS of references as to what happens when the second family member tests positive - see image from Government website.
