Hi all. Name changed as don't want real life hatred.

We've been isolating for 8 days as DH tested positive. We count the 10 days from when he first showed symptoms. Were sending DC1 and DC2 back to school tomorrow.

However just lateral flowed them and DC2 is stongingly positive. We're tempted to send DC1 to school as it's their last couple of days of year 6.

Is this horribly irresponsible? Should we sit out another 10 days as a family? Sposed to be going to Devon on Sunday.

If we should send DC1 to school what should we tell them?

IBU - should do more isolation NBU should carefully proceed with life.

Erm no, you know you shouldn't. Hmm

MargeGoesBowling · 21/07/2021 11:22

Is this horribly irresponsible?

Yup.

Hoppinggreen · 21/07/2021 11:22

You will get a mixed bag of responses but if I am totally honest I wouldn’t send to school but then I would do another test on Friday and if neg would go to Devon

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2021 11:22

Seriously?

PaulaPetunia · 21/07/2021 11:23

Just stay home.

AlexaIWillNeverSayDucking · 21/07/2021 11:24

The first thing to do is book DC2 in for a PCR, surely?

I don't think your child's last days of school should be prioritised over the holidays of all their classmates, TBH.

Do the PCR and go from there.

gamerchick · 21/07/2021 11:25

Why don't you ring the school and ask because I'll tell you, I've seen witch hunts when parents have done just what you want to do. It isn't pretty when parents have plans and someone has sent their kid in with a positive case in the house.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 21/07/2021 11:25

No to school

Test dc again morning of hols. If positive STAY HOME

Soz. Them’s the breaks

Starlive23 · 21/07/2021 11:25

Its horrible to be stuck in but honestly I think you know deep down its the responsible thing to do. If DC passed it to a classmate who then passed it to a vulnerable family member I'm pretty sure you would feel terrible.

Real shame as its the last week though.

bobcatbobcat · 21/07/2021 11:26

Please please don't send them in.

Your child is NOT more important than the rest of the class.

It's absolutely rubbish timing but you know what you have to do.

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 21/07/2021 11:27

Please don’t send them to school and risk infecting the rest of the class/year group the week before the summer holidays begin!
Please!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 21/07/2021 11:27

Is this a joke?

Chemenger · 21/07/2021 11:28

Why would you want to risk other people’s holidays when you are experiencing the pain of your own being at risk?

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 21/07/2021 11:29

just lateral flowed them and DC2 is stongingly positive
This child also needs a PCR test if they haven’t already had one.

Pissinthepottyplease · 21/07/2021 11:29

Jesus. You really can’t be serious here. This is way beyond you being a little selfish.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 21/07/2021 11:29

Please don't do this. It's utterly shit but you just can't. And what's the point of asking school? No school in their right mind would say it's ok to send him!

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 21/07/2021 11:30

Although saying that, your mistake was doing a LFT on your primary aged kids in the first place! If they weren't showing symptoms you'd have never known as they're exempt from LFT testing aren't they?

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/07/2021 11:32

NhS Scotland have a chart which shows different isolation scenarios for a household. According to that, your DC1 isn't required to restart isolation due to DC2 positive test.

Dc2 however does restart his isolation.

Guidance may differ elsewhere

JoborPlay · 21/07/2021 11:32

How many people's holidays are you potentially ruining. You absolutely being totally irresponsible and selfish.

Wannakisstheteacher · 21/07/2021 11:35

Seriously!? Doing that would be absolutely unforgivable. You have no right to risk the plans of what could be 30 families for the convenience of your one child.

Darkstar4855 · 21/07/2021 11:36

He needs a PCR to confirm the lateral flow result. You should all be isolating until that result comes back and you know it.

Please don’t risk spreading it around the school and ruining a lot more people’s holidays by being a selfish arse.

SummerHouse · 21/07/2021 11:37

The actual guidance says DS can go to school. Obviously positive DS can't and you can't take positive DS on hols but negative DS can go in. Let me find the handy chart...

RichardMarxisinnocent · 21/07/2021 11:37

I am slightly confused by your post. If DC1 doesn't develop symptoms or get a positive test result, they can stop isolating after the first 10 days can't they? They don't need to do another 10 days just because someone else in the household tested positive.

However you say you've been isolating for 8 days and were going to send the DC back to school tomorrow, so are you wanting to end DC1 isolation early before the 10 days is up? If so this is not OK. If however your question is can DC1 stop isolating after the first 10 days the answer is yes.

imnotsure1 · 21/07/2021 11:37

I'm very relaxed about covid and even I think this is very wrong.

Sad she'll miss the end of year 6 but it would be very selfish to send her.

PlugUgly1980 · 21/07/2021 11:38

Think of al the other families holidays you could ruin. Completely selfish.
