Hi all. Name changed as don't want real life hatred.

We've been isolating for 8 days as DH tested positive. We count the 10 days from when he first showed symptoms. Were sending DC1 and DC2 back to school tomorrow.

However just lateral flowed them and DC2 is stongingly positive. We're tempted to send DC1 to school as it's their last couple of days of year 6.

Is this horribly irresponsible? Should we sit out another 10 days as a family? Sposed to be going to Devon on Sunday.

If we should send DC1 to school what should we tell them?

IBU - should do more isolation NBU should carefully proceed with life.

Dc1’s isolation ends after 10 days. You don’t start another 10 days for the whole family. DC2 only really needs a pcr if you want to confirm the positive test, if you think it might be incorrect, it’s not essential if you’re going to isolate him anyway.

Oneearringlost · 21/07/2021 11:59

You don't get many Let's that are negative

RichardMarxisinnocent · 21/07/2021 11:59

@MordredsOrrery

There is no dilemma here. A new positive (get it confirmed by PCR) in the household resets the self-isolation clock for everyone.

I'm sorry your trip to Devon is off though, that sucks ☹

No it doesn't. Anyone with no symptoms and no positive test is free from isolation after the 10 days.
Dementedswan · 21/07/2021 12:00

No don't do that. Someone did that at my dc school and now 5 days into isolation a lot of them are starting to test positive . 6 confirmed cases so far.

pineapplecat21 · 21/07/2021 12:00

Oh yes send them so they can ruin everyone else's summer holidays too! ConfusedHmm Are you for real? The pure selfishness...

Monkeytennis97 · 21/07/2021 12:00

This is reason 426963578 why teaching in a pandemic is awful.

Please don't send your DC in.

Coronanamechangie · 21/07/2021 12:01

This is the chart. DC1 is essentially flatmate 2 in this scenario

This guidance is irrelevant as they have tested positive, not just developed symptoms.

You cannot send your DC to school.

She's not planning to send the positive DC to school, she is sending the negative one.

Coronanamechangie · 21/07/2021 12:01

Sorry flatmate 3. I would not send the positive one in

Sorry but I think you're trying to interpret the rules in such a way as to suit yourself.

Newpuppymummy · 21/07/2021 12:05

Don’t send them to school. Get a PCR test, it could be negative? See what happens. Could you go to Devon later?

Jaxhog · 21/07/2021 12:05

@AlexaIWillNeverSayDucking

The first thing to do is book DC2 in for a PCR, surely?

I don't think your child's last days of school should be prioritised over the holidays of all their classmates, TBH.

Do the PCR and go from there.

This. Anything else would be extremely irresponsible.
Mrgrinch · 21/07/2021 12:05

For god's sake. Nearly 18 months we've been doing this and people are still unable to isolate. Ffs.

Seriously? What utter rubbish!
StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 21/07/2021 12:07

Although i dont understand it the chart clearly states that if anyone else becomes positive during a household self isolation only they have to isolate away from the rest of the family who are free from original day 10 of isolation. So in our case DS had symptoms a couple of days before he and tested positive, D H remains negative, DS 10 days ends friday, so DH end friday too, cos i tested pos a couple of days after DS symptoms isolation for me ends monday. If DH tests pos in this period he starts 10 days but neither DS or I have to. As i say, no sense to it really

JoborPlay · 21/07/2021 12:07

Eh?

In a team of 19, doing at least twice weekly LFT since they've been available (NHS) we've had 1 positive.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 21/07/2021 12:08

All our LFT were negative….. until they were not

AlternativePerspective · 21/07/2021 12:09

Your child isn’t meant to be going to school tomorrow anyway.

And your DS2 has now tested positive so you need to cancel your holiday to Devon.

Anything other than that is completely selfish and irresponsible.

Willyoujustbequiet · 21/07/2021 12:09

How bloody selfish can you be? For God's sake!

MordredsOrrery · 21/07/2021 12:09

@richardMarxisinnocent she can't take a positive case on holiday so Devon is off, regardless of everyone else

GalacticDragonfly · 21/07/2021 12:09

@Coronanamechangie

I think the problem is that there’s a high likelihood that she is actually Housemate 4, which would mean 2 days out of isolation to infect a whole load of people, then symptoms begin. There’s no way I’d risk it.
NotAnotherPushyMum · 21/07/2021 12:09

@Oneearringlost

What?

My ds school went through six months of testing with lft twice a week, and every single one was negative, until they finally had a positive case. Our work team has also been doing twice weekly testing with no positives.

Nettleskeins · 21/07/2021 12:11

Don't do a PCR test.
Don't send him or his brother to school (pretend it's d and v)
Go to Devon but keep Ds away from people.
That would be my advice. Lft aren't binding

RuthW · 21/07/2021 12:12

If your ten days are up and child has no symptoms he can go back. Child with symptoms can't
